Being mediocre is better? If Rob trades future picks this offseason then a rebuild in the future would be butt ugly, at least now the team has some picks.

what are you talking about, lakers had gone through rebuild multiple times after the Show Time era. the NVE, Anthony Peeler days, the smush parker, kwame Brown days, and recently the tank commander Byron Scott days? i don't think the laker fanbase will ever revolt for anything, they're just too california cool. during those dark years, ownership had not lost any $$$ because Lakers were more of a tourist attractions anyway, Staples back then was a place for people (not laker fans) to be seen.

therefore, i never understand this notion that laker fans will not allow the team to rebuild because *insert your laker battle cry*, the truth is far from it, the team had been through rebuilds many times in recent years, and fans can and won't do a rats arse about it.

I would. If we're competitive during a rebuild and it gives rise to multiple ships I'd be more than tolerant, I'd be ecstatic.

I just don't understand how an extra D'Angelo Russell, an extra Brandon Ingram is going to do much at the end of the day.

People put too much belief in rebuilding, thinking it's a "pay your dues" kind of thing that'll guarantee a contender in a specific amount of time.

Imagine if the Lakers stayed patient with the young core and continued to build slowly.

Where would the Lakers be right now? The fans here would still be telling us to be patient with Brandon Ingram. There's STILL some fans here doing it right now with him not on the team and his team actively looking to trade him.

I don't get it. Isn't the above why the Lakers moved on from Ingram? Ingram was the centerpiece in the AD trade, which propelled them to contention. No AD = no ring. I'd say it worked out in the end. Blame Rob not just for breaking up a championship core, but throwing away Zu, Hart, BroLo and additional picks like they were candy. Mismanagement of assets + the WB trade set them back years.

Trading for a number 2 superstar after a number 1 superstar willingly walks to your team is a situation you can't and shouldn't plan for.

Who knows if and when that situation ever arises again?

The extra 1 or 2 years of rebuilding mostly likely results in a few mid-prospects that won't do anything for the team. They'll most like walk to another team after their rookie contract is up to try to win in a lesser role.

Both our Governor (Jeanie) and alternative Governor (Harris) work on the business side. We maxed out Bryant coming off of an Achilles sight unseen despite the cap implications. We are giving a 40 year old LeBron a three year max.We trade away our prospects and pending free agents before we have to pay them.

The priority of leadership is to make money. Filter all strategies and dreams through that prism. The team trying to win will be playing in Inglewood, even if they haven't proven to be very good at it.

he is making 60m per in 2 years. He is unmovable and we know he wont be worth it. Other teams will know that too.

I would rather us reboot early than later....but it really depends on what you could get for AD....I mean for me it would have to surpass Gobert as AD is an all around better player, but I don't see anyone in the league doing that....although if the Lakers did do it, and I was OKC with all of their picks...if they got AD and kept chet and shai that's an amazing team....

I know it would never happen but as someone mentioned, AD for Booker makes sense for both.

I get your preference and there could be some rational plan of quicker anticipation of resurgence rebooting earlier.

We do disagree tho and that’s ok. We see things differently. For me the choice to lose should never be made…especially as long as there is a reasonable chance to win…losing should only be an outcome when it’s forced unwillingly.

We need you guys…you know the ones who run away prematurely because they are scared they will lose and have no confidence in winning…to live to fight another day. Ya’ll need us too…the soldiers that stand and fight against all odds…to have a chance at heroic unsuspecting upset victories. Either path is too extreme so both are needed to balance each other out for the best course of action. I don’t think Rob has balance tho, looks like he ran away long ago, as in right after signing Westbrook, even before the team was filled in around it.

Option 3:

-try to get what we can for Lebron
-try to accumulate assets
-navigate toward a better cap situation
-try to stay above .500 while doing this
-draft Edey

Yes...

but the above would require an ownership and direction change and that ain't happening. Get ready for the Bronny father-son reality show instead.

LeBron doesn’t come here if we don’t have a bunch of young assets, a clean cap sheet, and picks to trade. Davis isn’t acquired without the young assets and picks. Collecting those players and holding on to our picks directly led to getting two All NBA players and raising a banner. We are an example of the power of those kinds of picks even if you aren’t directly drafting your superstar. This group has run its course and until we build back up the asset base we are just wasting time.

This sums up everything very succinctly. There is no such thing as a homerun trade this summer that fixes all that ails the current squad. If it wasn't so obvious that Jeanie and Rob will bow to Bron and Klutch until the very end (and they will...) then this is what I would do:

Don't bother wasting mental energy on finding ways to trade Bron. He holds the cards this summer and will steer the offseason as best as he can given that power. However, that power falls apart immediately if your FO decides they're ready to keep their existing picks and start the next rebuild right now. Instead of worrying about keeping Bron, focus on where he would like to land if he's not staying in LA. To me, the obvious choice is Dallas so he can reunite with his old partner, Kyrie. Then I focus on using Bronnie as the ballast to get some assets out of the situation.

1. Trade the likes of Gabe/Rui/Vando/JHS in order to return a pick this year that essentially guarantees we can draft Bronnie late first round or early second round. Do not waste #17 on him.
2. Setup a trade with Dallas before we select Bronnie. They are absolutely sacrificing Dereck Lively to us for Bronnie. That is our main prize. Dallas agrees to this with the understanding that Bron is theirs to sign. If need be, Bron can opt into his final year for a trade and we take back their scraps (THJ, Powell, etc) But, then they need to cough up Green as well imo.
3. Trade AD this summer for the best package out there with the primary focus being OKC's massive stash of picks. Another option is Orlando and demanding the like of Suggs in return along with picks. If the market has AD available, the offers will come.
4. Keep DLo assuming a reasonable contract. He's the perfect point guard for a rebuilding team with low expectations and no pressure.
5. Keep Christie at around 4yr/28m and continue developing as a 3&D specialist
6. If still on the roster, give JHS until the trade deadline for further development and playing time and then decide whether to keep or trade.
7. Target an established 2-way wing that provides above-average, scrappy defense to shore up the youth movement since Prince is likely gone with no Bron or AD. Would absolutely keep Prince if he's on board. Solid role player. Someone like Gary Trent Jr would be solid as well. Bruce Brown as a worst case overpay. Going forward place major emphasis on drafting these types.

Congrats. You are free of the Klutch Mafia and are done burning picks for potential title aspirations that aren't going to happen. Let your new coach focus on developing our youth which includes trying to right the ship for Rui, and continue to expand ARs game along with developing Lively, Christie, this year's #17 and combined with any young players coming back from an AD trade.

Of course, none of this will happen. But, I would pull the trigger on this in a heartbeat. The Lakers-Bron title window is shut hard. Stop throwing away picks trying to extend it.

If LeBron wanted to go to NY in a S&T for a package of Bojan, Randle + picks (is that possible? Not sure about their cap situation since this hard caps them at the 1st apron), I would trade AD for sure.

But I can't say I'm not curious about what the Lakers look like this season. Call me an optimist

I wish we had managed the assets that we had in 2020 better. We really have 2 all NBA players. Sure in 5 years together, they've only been truly healthy in 3. All 3 led to NBA title, WCF and this past year's 1st round.

You look back and just wonder what would have been had we managed KCP, Caruso, Kuzma, 2020 FRP, 2021 FRP, etc better. What if realized that KCP/Caruso in particular were like this team's Holiday/White instead of treating them 3rd rate scrubs.

At this current situation, I do see us being able to make the playoffs. Especially if JJ turns out to be a significant upgrade over Ham, and we end up getting another year out of AD/Bron with relative health. But to win a title seems like a big stretch based on our lack of core balance and assets. We need a lot of things really. 1) Stretch starting level big that can allow AD to move between the 4 and 5. 2) Two-way guard that puts defensive pressure on the opposing team's best ballhandler 3) Wing that can start at the 3 and bring significant shooting and defensive impact. We're IMO at least 3 players away, and then we also need to find a way to hang on to 1 of Rui/Vanderbilt and 1 of DLO/Reaves to complete a top 7 rotation that is championship level.

We need the magic wand summer really. Out: Only 1 of Vanderbilt/Rui. Only 1 of DLO/Reaves. In: The 3 player types I mentioned above (basically a new starting C, SF an G). Then after that we need to pray that JJ is a good enough coach. If I am betting on the coming season, I think we'll face some significant challenges to being a 50 win team. One of the major reasons, Paris Games. AD and Bron are going to playing a lot of ball. Them having a consecutive high health/games played year is not something I'm buying in or betting on.

Lakers won't trade Bron.

They won't trade AD either.

I actually think the Lakers still want to get that third star, I won't be surprised if the Lakers hope something like the following happened/happens.

1) JJ mentioned how he could make the current roster work
2) Lakers keep the pick and grab a big man who can expect to see minutes this year
3) The market for D lo is pretty cool and he comes back on a decent deal for both sides. The roster for the most part stays the same.
4) Coaching it turns out was a big issue and with health the team players well. We look like a pretty solid 5th team, good not great.
5) Trade deadline our "horrible" players look more appealing. Lakers are able to make a good impact trade
