Take a look at the rest of his stat line that night and perhaps pay a little closer attention to his skill set and see if it doesn't pass the eye test. I don't think I'm going too far out on the limb when I say he is likely to have a very long and successful NBA career. |
What hate? |
somebody here said lonnie walker is miles ahead of him, lol |
Whoever said that was right and Lonnie is younger. Reaves is a 10th or 11th man at best on a playoff team. |

Really like AR... But he's better off the bench than a fulltime starter. His skills maximize vs other teams 2nd unit. |

AR was in college for 4-5 years. I’m not buying the AR LG hype. |

I think Reaves is the type of player who will look better as the team gets more reps and improves their execution. He's not a a huge run/jump athlete that is going to look great in the scrum. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

2 games in and everyone on this board is counting the season as over.
Reaves is a damn good player, he will be fine. |

Agreed. Also, the comparison between Reaves, and Walker, is a bad one. Walker is a score first player, whereas Reaves playstyle more closely emulates Caruso. Reaves is clearly not as athletic as Caruso, but he has more "craftiness" in his offensive game. Reaves is a player that will give you a bit of everything. Walker is out there to give you offensive punch. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

No one is counting season over but when he’s on the court with equally young guys he seems to me, 2 games in that he doesn’t appear to be the best at what he brought last year on a team with old guys. _________________ Kobe.

I believe that's because Austin...along with mostly all our players...are still in the "figuring it out" phase. Figuring out the system Hamm is trying to instill... Figuring out each other, on-court... Figuring out their own respective roles... For some, that's going to be easier, than it is for others. Players like Damian, and Wenyen, are there for hustle, and defense. Nunn, and Walker, for offensive punch. Reaves straddles the middle, as he has more of a playmaker mentality. So, his real worth won't be seen, until this team is more solidified, in rotations and chemistry. Also, there's the ever looming prospect of a Westbrook trade, hovering over the team. So, the construction of the team may change, at some point. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Exactly! If he balls out, it only adds to the pressure to limit Russ' minutes and keep him out of the starting rotation. |

He looked bad to start the season. But so as many of our other guards. |

One of the funniest things posted last night was someone said something about AR's game stats and PenG_ replied "cries in Caruso" lol
But on the Caruso comparison, there's no telling how he would have been had he just been thrown into the fire. CaruGOAT was a two-way player and he spent a significant amount of time developing with the SB Lakers. I don't remember why that didn't happen with Austin, but it's clear he would benefit from some development time. |

Just like with THT, he'll most likely shine on another team. The last thing young players need is the hoopla and media circus that comes with being a Laker. At least guys like Vujacic, Bynum and Farmar didn't have twitter and social media to contend with when they were drafted here. They'd have a field day with good ol' Sasha. |

Incorrect. Austin didn't have a poor game. He was just mostly invisible out there. But, I don't pin that on him. He's a good/solid support player. But, when what you're supporting is garbage...and, our half court offense is garbage...what do people expect. Reaves is at his best, when he has the ball in his hands, and is able to create off pick and roll's, or screens. He barely had the ball in his hands, against Denver. Because, the ball was heavily in the hands of LeBron, followed by AD, then Walker/Nunn/Beverly. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks for the shoutout. Like this team, I need all the help I can get.
I get tired of how often social media tries to push Reaves > Caruso simply because he'll have a decent night on offense. I like Reaves, but Caruso is special. Impact metrics love him for a reason.
Like AD, people really need to watch the game to get a sense of Caruso's impact. |

Agreed, Austin needs some more seasoning and even though the kid is no "spring chicken," he has NBA potential and will only get better.
The main reason he didn't get assigned to SBL was because last year's Laker team was sub-par (sucked) and needed all the help and youth that it could muster up at the time.
Kudos to AR for seizing the opportunity and actually being a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season. |

Defensively, AR didn't play particularly well last night. Teams know he's not that athletic and he needs to get stronger.

I don't believe it's a "one guy is more special, over the other" situation. Both players fill a similar role, they just have different weakness/strengths. Caruso is more athletic/explosive, and clearly more experienced. Austin is still trying to find his groove, in an ever changing landscape, while being being ahead of the game offensively compared to Caruso (respective to time in the league). _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |
