The Lakers always had a weird relationship with their Minneapolis roots.
They were happy to add the Minneapolis rings to the team's overall total, but otherwise they wanted to forget about them.
We have a bunch of Lakers from the Minneapolis days who really deserve to have their jerseys retired -- Vern Mikkelsen, Slater Martin, Jim Pollard, and maybe Clyde Lovellette. Those four probably won't get it. They are all dead, so we can't honor them; ther aren't remembered, so we can't honor their memories.
Why the Lakers are retiring Mikan now is a mystery. But long overdue.
Yes, also one with the Chicago Gears in the NBL in 1947. Lost in 1951 but was injured. Russell esque dominance.
Jim Pollard and Vern Mikkelsen should get their numbers up there as well. #2 and #3 on the first dynasty of basketball _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

It’s weird that we count the Minneapolis championships but did not retire any of the jerseys. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
About time.. Good to acknowledge greatness, albeit late. Well done Lakers.

It makes no sense, this should have been done a generation ago. Dr. Buss should have taken care of this. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!
Some years back the team hung a banner at Staples recognizing the Minneapolis Lakers and it bore the names of their legendary players (Mikan, Mikkelsen, Pollard, Lovellette, Slater Martin and coach John Kundla
They held a ceremony at Staples (I think both the banner and the recognition of the players occurred on the same evening) honoring the Minneapolis teams…it was long overdue at the time, but better late than never
There would have been no L.A. Lakers without those early teams in Minny and it was great to see that celebration finally happen

It was great but they should have done it the right way. That was lazy and honestly, disrespectful. Raise normal banners like the rest, add them their one missing championship, retire numbers of biggest stars (Mikan #1, Pollard #2, Mikkelsen #3), dont put 5 players plus coach on one single banner, its embarassing _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

Yes, now if only they would raise the 1947-48 banner as well, retire #17 and #19, remove that huge "hall of fame" banner, the world would be right for me _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

i mean, i know they didn't have names on the back of those old jerseys, but wouldn't it have made sense to "cheat it"... and have the jersey say "Mikan"?

Yeah it bothers me as well. The jersey they presented to his kids has his name on it _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

While authentic as-is, it probably would be better if the jersey had the Mikan name on the back. There's enough people that might not know whom or what that jersey is representing. _________________ Smrek 2, Nevitt 1, Barkley 0

The jerseys have been updated to show the proper design when each player wore the jersey. They are also ordered by the correct era, but Chamberlain's should be to the right of Goodrich's, and Wilkes' should be to the right of Kareem's.

Nice to see all the banners for the MPLS championships.
It was about time they fixed it. Now we have all the seventeen banners up on the rafters.
And I LOVED that the Lakers changed the retired jerseys to the correct era of each player.
