If you look at what was said a couple of days ago, it was reported that the Cavs were moving on from the Mitchell pursuit and today all of a sudden they came out of no where and got a deal done. |

Danny Ainge is building a future, long-term powerhouse in Utah, using the opposite approach of the Lakers. Look at all these first round draft picks over the next 7 years.

What powerhouse? A powerhouse of picks perhaps. Do you recall any championships in Utah's history? If there were, then I'd be worried. This is a franchise and location that wins chips, and now they have all these assets. But they're not. Some teams just build and build and build forever, this is one of those teams. With all those picks, maybe, just maybe they'll land another one as good as Donovan Mitchell. Rinse, repeat. |

I guess we place a different value on first round draft picks. Notice how the Lakers are not in a hurry to give away theirs anymore. They are valuable assets. |

What has OKC won with all of their picks?
The answer would be nothing.
At some point a team needs to win.
Did Utah do the right thing in unloading those two guys? Yes, certainly. They weren’t winning anything with those players. So some markets need to tank in order to be successful? Yes, they do… because they can’t attract free agents.
Are the Lakers different? Certainly, yes. The Lakers have never “tanked” except for a few years after the NBA nuked the franchise by rescinding the Paul trade after it was leaked to the public.. along with the Steve Nash debacle.
So I guess my point is.. I understand what Utah and OKC are doing. They are very different from the Lakers… but the tank fest has not worked out for the so called genius Presti, as they just keep losing year after year. |

What a stupid question with an even more stupid answer. Because that question hasn’t even been answered yet, not even close. We won’t know until another 5 or so years from now.
And the last time they tanked hard, they got 3 future mvps out of it. And could have kept them all if their owner wasn’t so cheep. So I’d say they are pretty good at this whole tanking/using draft picks thing. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

It’s not in the best interest of the Lakers to tank… when they can attract free agents.
OKC hasn’t won anything. All they do is lose. Must be nice to advocate for a position that never requires any actual results.
Let’s lay off using the word stupid in posts, dummy. |

The Lakers have signed two star FAs in 26 years. They used to draft well and make good trades. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Lakers still draft well - they just don't draft often because they trade their picks left and right, lol _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

They signed Shaq and Lebron… two pretty good signings.
I do agree they have also relied on key trades at important times… often for players who want to play in Los Angeles. They’ve obviously drafted well with Kobe, Magic..
But those days are long gone. Times have changed now. “Drafting well” often now means tanking (at least for the superstar type talents). You can pick up rotational players… MAYBE a star if your lucky with a later pick, most often though, your looking at support players. Scouting is too good, teams are afraid to move picks, and players can no longer dictate where they want to be drafted. |
