Rob Pelinka says Max Christie was a consensus pick for the Lakers' scouts and front office. Pelinka said it's rare that all parties are in agreement on who the pick should be.
Pelinka said the Lakers believe Christie would have been a top 15-20 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft had he returned to Michigan State for his sophomore season. The Lakers are excited to get that type of talent in the second round.

I hope heβs right. But to be fair they said the same thing when they drafted Darius Morris in 2011.

Was Jesse Buss part of scouting back then? _________________ ππ π π π #18!!!
MAX CHRISTIE
Lanky wing with versatile defensive skills and long-term shooting upside.
SHADES OF
Khris Middleton, Jeremy Lamb
Which one is it dang it?
Middleton or Lamb?
I'll take Middleton. Lamb less so
Neither itβs Kevin Martin with defense
I don't recall KMart having a mid range.
Hmmm. The 2 of the first 3 aren't really mid range shots per se. He got bumped so he's shooting for the and one. The only other shot that was taken near mid range was the floater.
I don't recall him taking mid range shots. But I might just be misremembering. The highest freq of 10-16 ft shots he took in a year was 18%. So in some years he did. Cool cool. _________________ ππ π π π #18!!!
Max Christie said his only interaction with the Lakers was his interview with them and that it was "a bit of a surprise" to be picked by them at No. 35.
Pretty much all of Lakerland was surprised as well kid haha
But our scouts have a way of showing out, so I hope the kid can max his ceiling here.

Rob Pelinka thinks once Max Christie gets with Darvin Ham, Chris Jent and the other developmental coaches on the Lakers: "I really think he's gonna turn into a really good shooter." Mentions his great looking touch as an indicator of confidence.

I donβt follow picks this late to know better but Jaden Hardy which was LA twitterβs favorite pick was in 7 out of those 10 mock drafts going as high as #23 but he ended up falling to #37. _________________ Tacos

I figured the Lakers were being lowkey with who they potentially wanted to draft. That's why I believe he didn't have a draft workout and interview.
His mid-range game is often compared to C.J. McCollum. The players I've seen him compared to are Jeremy Lamb, Landry Shamet, Kevin Martin, and Evan Fournier. I've never seen anyone compare him to any Hall of Famer.
LA Twitter saying that this means THT is getting traded.
Would agree. Don't think they trade a future pick and $2.7M in cash to put the guy behind Westbrook/Reaves/THT/Nunn.
He's considered a project. Unlikely he'll contribute or play much this year. The hope is he'll put some muscle on his frame and become something in a couple of years.

This is just some rote stuff that GMs say after every draft. βWe had him ranked much higher, we were shocked that he was still there at our spot.β That sort of thing. Nothing terribly unique about it. Some of them turn out right in the end, and I hope theyβre right about Max.

I donβt see the Kevin Martin comparison at all except that they kind of look alike in the face. I can see Lamb because of his body type. Watching him play though I kept thinking that he reminds me of somebody but the name wouldnβt pop in my head. Itβs Michael Porter jr. The way Christie gets off the ground on his jump shot reminds me of a 6β6 MPJ.
EJ Liddell would have been a better pick. Heβs going to have a PJ Tucker type dependable career in the NBA.
Christie was ranked very high in high school but didnβt do much at Michigan State. Not a very good athlete and not a good shooter. Liddell, seems to be to be the perfect small ball 4/5 in todays NBA.
