They have cap space for free agents and draft picks for depth next summer
And trading the stars is what you've been clamoring for.
I'm firmly in the keep the stars and sign minimum free agents camp, rebuild in 2023 with cap space and draft picks.
The problem with building around AD is that assuming we had a decent team, we still wouldn't be very confident of winning it all because the odds of him getting injured is quite high.

I'm already anticipating Anthony leaving in 2025. That's why my agenda is to keep those first round picks.

I don't see Nurkic, Schroeder, and Harris being available for the salaries you are hoping for.
We have never gotten a "Klutch discount." Just the opposite in fact.
I'm more worried about what we do with AD than Westbrick this season. It will set the tone for years to come. I'm no longer a fan of building a team of superstars but I'd rather spread it out. I'd prefer a deep team with a lot of young, good players on and off the bench. Not putting all our eggs in one or two baskets.

And you don't want to trade him now to get some draft picks back? You want to keep him just for a chance at championship in 2023 and 2024?

I'm hopeful they could leverage the 2023 cap space to get Nurkic on a cheap 1 year deal.
Nurkic is the best free agent center -- he'll generate interest if he hits the market. My guess is he'll sign a multiple year contract with Portland starting at $15 million or so.

So you want to start 3 guys who need ball in their hands with no shooting whatsoever. to make matters worse you have a big immovable object in Nurkic at center
Dallas is an interesting team to look at... Before they even start next season, they will already in for $151m total team salary. With Brunson becoming a free agent... They are in a pickle jar with everything with no room on improving that roster at all. A lot of those guys are not good enough to package for another allstar to pair up with Luka... So they most likely not even make the WCF next season and will run in the same issue in 2023.
Dallas will have significant capspace to improve in 2023 to bring in a #2 guy... They can afford to resign Brunson. They also get their #2 guy in Westbrook. If it does not work out, they most likely end up with a lotto pick. Then Westbrook deal expires anyways. Their roster is young enough that they can afford a throw away season. They can start fresh in 2023 along with a lotto pick.
Why Lakers? They have a different timeline and get the shooters they need. Lakers will only still have about $90m salary in 2023. Some of those contracts are pretty moveable at that time if they decide to clear some more capspace in 2023 or 2024.

Lebron will be eating up $45 in cap space in 2023. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
No one wants to talk about Kevin Knox, because we need to trade away picks for Cam Reddish!
I live in NY. Ok, how can I put this nicely………KEVIN KNOX IS A BUM!
Well, yeah. He's a failed lottery pick who doesn't shoot well. His career TS% is .480. He matches his poor shooting with even worse defense. He'll have a hard time getting the vet min this summer. He sounds like a perfect fit for us. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved
