(Holder: Roe v. Wade Draft Could Signal SCOTUS Moves On Privacy Rights And Beyond)
Quote:
Former Attorney General Eric Holder tells Andrea Mitchell that the draft opinion on abortion could signal future Supreme Court moves on privacy rights and beyond. “Is same sex marriage is going to be at risk? The regulation of contraception, is that going to be at risk? Even interracial marriage? All of these things are based on the right to privacy, which this opinion in its form as we saw it, really goes at the that, that right to privacy," says Holder.
Senate unanimously passed a bill to provide more security to Supreme Court justices families, but the bill to codify Roe will fail to reach even 50 votes. These old (bleep) have never been more out of touch with the country and I hope they’re severely punished for it.
Notorious RBG was great n all, but why was she so adamant at that stage of her life to test fate for 4 years of a Trump Admin is a puzzler given the consequences of not making it. She would've known better than any of us what would happen if she didn't make it, which is why her posthumous wishes were literary equivalents of football bats. Useless in every essence of their being, not even as purposeful as toilet tissue. I know she was a trailblazer and I salute her, but you couldn't have hung up the gown in 2015, Ruth? We potentially have decades of this garbage because she wanted her last years in there while...(sigh) wishing... that things would be OK if she didn't make it to 2021. Liberals wish, Trumpers and Republicons lie/cheat/steal/TAKE.
Nobody thought Hillary could lose and I could see RBG wanting to do it under the first woman POTUS. I don't think it was malicious intent in RBG's part, just bad miscalculation
That was part of it but the dems lost the senate before that, so her choice needed to be made before 2014 when the Obama people pleaded with her that the senate was going to fall to the GOP.
RBG was like Feinstein . . . just didn't want to give it up.
Maybe there's a fundamental thing that crosses political sides of the spectrum w/ justices in that there are those who can see big picture and retire given the landscape and those that can't/won't/don't -- but more often than not, justices don't wanna give up their station after they snagged it way back when. And that's while so many of them also seem to believe their own lines about having an apolitical eye on the issues before them. If they can claim that w/ a straight face (espec the Rs who can do it while purposely lying about how they plan on voting on an issue once they get in), then maybe that's how a justice could develop other blithe notions about things like the importance of their seat to the continuity of the "settled" law that they spent decades shaping. A couple more leaps of faith beyond that and they start thinking they know when they're going to die, too.
It's too bad that Ginsberg in particular might've been in that headspace even tho I would never doubt the nobility of her intentions. Of Mice And Men...Of Cancer And Liberal Female SC Justices (best laid plans...) I would've been the first to salute her for staying until the very end if she wanted to under a less ominous future for the rest of us. But if you were her and thought the gym was going to keep you alive until you could be replaced by someone to carry out your wishes, then I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe being one of 115 some-odd people to ever serve on the Court does get to their egos after awhile. And being a job that holds great power for seatholders no matter their age, health, or probably even their mental acuity if you consider Thomas, the justices pushing 80 must feel especially empowered. That's a level of empowerment that only their counterparts in politics and corp business get to taste in this ageist country, and even LESS known to 80 yr old women in our society.
I would've included sports broadcasting of the recent past there, but I think going forward, we won't hear/see as many Chick/Most types in sport as we did in the past. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

It's disgusting how Joe Rogan pretends to be fair and balanced and give equal attention to both sides, but he makes it clear that he agrees all the way with one of the sides he presents.
I feel bad that I used to misjudge him as an ally of common-sense left-wing ideas and philosophies.

This is just another example of the falsity that he's intelligent and insightful. That argument is deeply flawed, inaccurate and devoid of intelligence. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

The "both sides" and "just asking questions" are as disingenuous as it gets. It’s a strategy to inject misinformation. They’re platforming nonsense in an uncritical manner, with a false balance – presenting a fringe ideas as if it was mainstream and legitimate, when it’s not.

(Sex for water: Why Kenyan women pay the price - BBC Africa)
Quote:
Kenya's capital, Nairobi, is currently facing a water shortage due to factors like changing weather patterns and ageing water facilities.
Residents in informal communities like Kibra pay private vendors for water, meaning they now control the supply and access to water in the community.
However, the price women and girls are paying is a lot more than just money.
There was a story on how hard it is to get water in parts of Africa on a VICE episode yrs ago. Forgot the region of Africa, but the water shortage problem is endemic all over Africa, so. I remember them focusing on the Nestle corp screwing up natural waterways and access to community wells/spigots with one of their plants. Nestle (major water bottler) plops a plant in Africa and usurps an entire region's access. Negotiations w/ Nestle landed them a single spigot that didn't even work (SOPs of US corps in the 3rd World). They showed both men and women having to go on a bleepin nature trek to get water including crossing a 4 lane highway w/ no crossing. It was ridiculous, reminded me of Steve Martin in Planes/Trains. It took people from the village they showed walking upwards of 5-6 hours to get water and lug it back home. Men would leave home when it was dark to get it because it took up so much of their day.
There was another one about the lives (if you'd call them that) of jewel diggers of the Tsavo region of C. Africa where they have green garnets, spinels, and sapphires. They were sharing a bottle of water that was actually brownish. It was an unrelated clip, but that stuck w/ me more than the actual subject matter. What they considered clean water had a yellowish-brown tinge dark enough that you could see the water in the bottle. Eeech. That's what these gents were forced to consider potable water. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
