Has to be in the GOAT conversation. Some say he is the GOAT. The "Sky Hook" is still the most unstoppable shot the game has ever seen. NBA all time scoring leader 38,387

I debated between the Lounge and OT. If the mods see fit please change forums. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

The man transcends basketball in his greatness. Off Topic was the correct choice jo. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

The most underappreciated legendarily great athlete in the history of sports. Legitimately has a GOAT claim and almost no one puts him in those discussions. |

I've heard Kareem wanted to be a head coach but his anti-social personality was a reason he wasn't chosen to be one. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Kareem has a strong personality. I could see that being a turn off in some circles if they want a coach to allow a player to run things their way. |

He was an assistant coach with the Clippers in 2000 and the Lakers 2005-2011. I saw that in his wiki. I don't remember this. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Well that's one way of looking at it but I figured since this is a Lakers forum that a Laker great birthday would be in the Lounge like the others. |

He wasn't on the bench, he was a development coach for big men. He worked with Bynum. For the Clippers I think it was "Kandi. |

In the modern game he would not have played 4 years at UCLA. If he had come straight to the association like LeBron, his scoring record would not be touched. |

Completely dominant for decades, winning big at every level.
Not to mention a very intelligent, thoughtful, well spoken man off the court.
Props to The Captain, the Sky Hook is iconic. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I think he would have played 4 years just like Bill Walton. John Wooden may have been the reason. Plus Kareem's personality leads me to think he put a premium on education. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

He's always been my GOAT. But I've also heard about his aloofness and arrogance, and Jeff Pearlman's "Showtime" has more than a few examples:
Quote: | In public, however, Abdul-Jabbar was the darkest of dark clouds, moody and aloof and, in the opinion of many, unjustifiably arrogant and dismissive. |
Quote: | “Some little kid would ask for an autograph and he’d say, ‘Go (bleep) yourself,’ said Linda Rambis, who worked as the vice president and general manager of Forum tennis during the early 1980’s.
“But Kareem was, otherwise, an incredible professional.”
