And they ask so little from Repubs that low IQ w/ no intellectual curiosity is apparently prized given dunskies like Quayle, Palin, Bachman, W, DT, Gaetz/Boebert/MTG, etc. And the R President credited as the smartest since Ike was Nixon. Giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. If we had 52 Democrat Senators instead of the 50 we have now. Alot of things promised in 2020 elections across the country would get done.
Maybe a different D Senator would play the same games Manchin and Sinema are playing now if they were swing voters, so we'd need 53. And maybe another so we'd need 54. etc.
But putting that all aside. I'll always vote Dem. Till the day I die.
But to answer your question. If you are engaged in politics you realize, elections have consequences (see Roe v. Wade getting overturned).
But if you only dip a toe into the political pool. You can have the perspective that "it's all a sick game and nothing will get done". So for many, the choice isn't between voting against backward thinking conservativism or not. It's a choice between engaging in an activity or believing the changes desired will never happen (so just give into apathy). _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

When are we going to stop the money from the Jan6 financiers
They are still building Racist Redneck Paramilitary armies of hate and murder yet GARLAND sits on his hands and doesn't do anything

EDIT:
The dismantling of democracy is a subject being discussed on MSNBC as I edit this post. If we're not careful we will lose democracy along with the precious freedom Trumpsters are talking about protecting.

Was reading Dole's wiki. His health history makes death at 70 a sound decision. Dude had prostate cancer, had a triple A that didn't rupture, hip replacement, a brain bleed, a skin graft on his legs, knee surgery leading to pneumonia which is often curtains for a guy that old. Then Stage 4 lung cancer. And the arm thing as a side hustle. If I were him, I would've wanted that 96 fall to be fatal. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Without a whisper of descent, "Defense spending" is passing overwhelmingly at 5-6 times the annual spending of Biden's Build Back Better plan.
Just want to highlight this moment for whatever "moderate" "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" person wanders into this thread.

So both parties are the same, on this. And, given the amount taken by defense spending and where some of that amount could have gone instead, it affects other issues. Plus, both parties have been doing this type of bipartisanship for a while.
How much? $768 or 778 billion (been reported both ways and I don't know). Biden withdraws from Afghanistan war and spending goes up. Como?

I guess you might be referring to me.
I've argued on this thread that military spending is wasteful, not just because of the dollar amount, but because there's a serious lack of a strategic focus. The US spends money foolishly, either on boondoggles (littoral combat ships), strategically misguided (and ironically wasteful) attempts to save money (F-35), or "my penis is bigger than yours" ship-building (ships that will likely be vulnerable to new generation weapons, while allowing existing support ships to deteriorate).
Arguing over the dollar amount of military spending is in of itself misguided when all you look at are domestic issues. America has become insular, and its leadership erratic and misguided. As much as I detest Trump, two components of his foreign policy were rooted in realism: 1) The PRC (more so than Russia) has become the true long-term menace to global peace, that should become a strategic focus; 2) Our allies should start making meaningful contributions to their own defense (hello Germany and others). If you don't want to protect your own backyard, stop expecting a country that is halfway across the world to do it for you, at our expense of lives and treasure.
To summarize, we need a more strategic view of the world, what constitutes a threat (hint: most Middle Eastern stupidity doesn't qualify, but an emerging nuclear menace with a delivery system does), how we should respond to the threats over various time horizons, and how those responses work within the context of the money we spend on the military. This means that we should stop looking at military spending as an entitlement and that spending has to be taken in context with its potential benefits as well as limitations imposed by keeping our deficit aligned with long-term GDP goals.
Cutting military spending for the sake of social programs is a lofty goal, but unless priorities are examined (social spending objectives vs. military spending objectives) any discussion (either in DC or LG) will result in desultory bickering and grandstanding. |

All true, but the Dunning Kruger effect of hyper-engaged centrists and leftists is both frustrating and hilarious - people who will learn every anti-climate change talking point or every bad thing the CIA has ever done and then throw tantrums when "one weird trick" doesn't do (bleep) about getting the votes of SineManchin.
Yeah, US politics suck, the Senate is ridiculous, the system is structured to resist change, etc , but people completely checking out except to (bleep) and whine all the time ensures that nothing will get better and given the current insane state of conservative politics in this country, they will only get worse under GOP leadership. _________________ Under New Management

The Hercules DID get off the water a little, now. Not! a Spruce Goose. Imagine how many billions they put into bids for stuff that never gets used. Defense contractors already have created everything unmanned but a submarine and that rage itself is the new stealth. They're increasing in autonomous ability/AI as well. Skynet territory. Many decades left for boondoggles. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Insane leftist take of the week: in response to the federal government announcing plans to make COVID tests affordable and readily available, but not mail them to every home in America, "both parties are the same and no one in power in this country cares if you live or die."

Do you ever listen to Pod Save America? A bunch of moderate Dems who worked for Obama in the White House. Feel like you would enjoy it more than tracking insane leftists.
Takeaway from today from the guest (who was heading up alot of polling for Obama in 2012) was that Dems are missing out (politically) by NOT framing this next election as a fight for Democracy.
People don't get riled up to vote for bridges and broadband (Biden's BBB bill). And to be honest, the elections moving forward are bigger than that. It's voting for keeping America a democracy or not.
The Republican party and conservative media aren't hiding their intentions. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Isn't that exactly what Dems did, and have been doing and continue to do? You don't see people riled up about whether this election is, or is not, about saving democracy?
"bridges and broadband (Biden's BBB bill)" - I don't know how accurate, and current, this link summarizing the bill below is , nor do I know if these items are likely to happen, but there is a lot of things that would seem to directly (positively) affect people's families here, besides the clean energy stuff that could seem less direct. Isn't that a relatively compelling message (assuming it's effectively delivered)?

You're right. In 2020, that's what Dems did.
What the guest was talking about is 2022 and 2024. Republicans have taken over that narrative of "fighting for Democracy". Even though they are literally advocating for and planning for the opposite (taking back the WH even if Trump loses the electoral college in 2024).
But heading into these midterms. Dems aren't talking enough about the big picture of keeping our country a democracy. And how that won't be possible if the GOP gains back power. The next Republican speaker of the House will be alot scarier than Paul Ryan.
In terms of the BBB bill. What's in it is VERY VERY popular. But Manchin recently trashed it and hinted that he won't vote for it. And also, polling is showing alot of people don't know what's in it. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I don't know if the messaging "keep us a democracy" means anything. It should, but people care about
Money
Immigration
Freedom
2 of which the dems should be pouncing on. If dems said "Keep us Free" that IMHO would hit home more. "We are putting money in your pocket, the GOP wants to take it", IMHO would work.
Immigration isn't really an issue dems can stand on, but pound the other two. They need to get nuanced specific to region. Democracy, BBB are just too big of ideas for some to digest.
What are the top 2 or 3 most relatable positives of BBB and just message those. |

What concerns me is, IMO the Democratic leadership isn't giving saving the Democracy enough attention. BBB is very important. It will probably create jobs and lower unemployment. Helping the middle class.
What I think BBB will do is, create jobs the middle class can qualify to do. thus giving them a sense of survivability/comfort. Approximately 51 percent of the United States falls in the middle class. If it thrives the country thrives.
If the Repukelicans regain power the improvements may be for naught. Repubs are the party of the wealthy. That party is headed in the direction of autocracy/oligarchy. Lending to my fear of Democracy disappearing.
Watching what they're doing to Trump gives me some hope that the plan to save democracy is back door/clandestine. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Dems are horrible at messaging. Their only saving grace is that the attack on women will be front and center. |

The first sentence that even remotely fits the events of the last couple of years finally comes down, and it has nothing to do with Jan. 6th.
Meanwhile, the civilians involved in the Jan. 6th Insurrection are getting slaps on the wrist and the REAL instigators in Washington from Trump on down are being treated with kid gloves by Garland, thus getting away with treason.
