Frank Vogel wants Lakers to be “best fast-breaking team”
“We want to be the best fast-breaking team in the NBA. We have dynamic players, and then adding a guy like Russ and the speed that he brings to the table, we want to support him and get everybody running. That’s when we’re going to be at our best, that’s when we were at our best two years ago when we led the league in fast-break points, and I think those two things, along with some different early offense looks that we put in — that are a little bit different than who we were last year — to open things up.”
https://lakersoutsiders.com/2021/10/01/frank-vogel-lakers-best-fast-breaking-team/
To look at a team as old as we are, and go "We want to be the best fast break team in the league!" or that you'd even want to run a fast pace, is probably one of the most idiotic things you COULD do. |
we will be. Once our defense and rebounding gets straight. |

Frank figured a few things out.
Rondo shouldn't play with Westbrook, let Westbrook be the PG when Bron is out. Even when Bron is in, let Westbrook run the show more.
Give Austin some run. Nice Caruso replacement. Maybe our new "secret" weapon.
AD/Bron/Baze/Westbrook + a wing (Right now Melo) is our most potent 2-way lineup.
Seeing some adjustments in the rotation game to game.
Some could argue Frank should have known that beforehand. Maybe, but Frank is the sort of guy that seems to give every one on the team a chance and then picks his preferences, as opposed to coming in with pre-determined preferences and biases. We as fans may not like that, but I bet the players respect that they are all given a fair shot at earning their role. |

I cringe that Vogel ever thought Russ/Rondo combo would work.
Yikes. |

To be honest, at some point in the season, I think it will. When Westbrook is more comfortable on offense, especially in where he can be off the ball, I think this will be something they can try again. I am a lot higher on Rondo than most people. Rondo's IQ is something you just can't teach. We just don't have the play finishing right now. When Westbrook figures out some of his off the ball spots, and roles. It could be an option for a few minutes.
The dual PGs is something that can give you two different elite passers out there at all times. Again, not saying I want to go this route. But I wouldn't absolutely rule it out. 2 years ago, people thought the same of Bron/Rondo. And it took some time, but eventually Bron/Rondo began to blend in where you got comfortable playing them 3-4 minutes together. |

or it's like he's a better coach than forum randos and has a methodology that isn't always gratifying to forum randos
I'd be concerned if he was a stubborn coach. the 2020 title run proved he's not. the team shapeshifted every series |

Not that good of a head coach to me. People said he made adjustments, but I didn't see it. I seen him being stubborn to what isn't working. If he made adjustments, he wouldn't have started that same up in the beginning of the game at half time as well. He keeps the same starters for whatever reason, even though that line up isn't good. He loves himself some Bazemore, even though he is just alright. He definitely isn't a good offensive coach. We will see what happens when we get all our players back. We are missing 4, so, I'm being patient, but my goodness Vogel isn't coming off as a good head coach. Assistant, maybe. |

Obviously some of it is on AD, but a stronger coach that can handle big personalities would have preemptively made sure to keep player blowups behind closed doors. AD felt entirely too comfortable admonishing Dwight fit all to see. That’s a coaching problem. Vogs ghosting that confrontation is another problem.
From rubbing all over bigs (and their personalities) the wrong way (Marc, Drummond, Trezz, Kieff), to having really odd rotations, to clearly not having input in personnel decisions and bending over backwards for our FO in promising starter roles, this dude ain’t built to be HC.
He’s not going to a have a fair shake at it either being a “yes man” for Rob/Kurt. He will be the scapegoat for this season if it doesn’t work out and even though it comes with the territory of being a “yes man” dude deserves better than potentially getting fired. He’s proven to be a great defensive scheming coach, so if anything I hope they demote him to DC, instead of outright firing the guy, if/when the time comes.
One thing has to change asap tho….
Quote: | Buha: Frank Vogel says he wants LeBron James around “34 to 36” minutes per night this season, but he doesn’t want him playing all 82 games.
Vogel says that LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook will all likely be in the mid-30s minutes-wise.
|
Bron/AD/Russ are all in the top 15 in total minutes played so far. Other than our trio, the only other teams to have had multiple players in the top 15 total minutes played is Indy/Carlisle and Boston/Udoka. Here’s the thing tho, Indy’s trio of Brogdon (28y/o), Sabonis (25), Duarte (24) has had two of their 3 games go into overtime, while Boston’s duo of Tatum (23) and Smart (27) had one of their games go into double overtime.
Steph is the oldest player (33) other than 36y/o Bron in the top 15 in total minutes played so far and he’s only behind Indy’s trio & Jules (who also played a double OT game) at 38 minutes per this season. AD is avg 37 minutes & Russ is avg 35.5 minutes so far.
https://go.nba.com/6ltb
I’m hoping that this is due to the injuries of Nunn/THT/Ariza/Ellington…but still it’s alarming if this trend continues since Nunn/Ariza/THT ain’t coming through those doors any time soon. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Who else is he going to put in? Our 1-2 backup wings are injured, Bron is injured, we going to put in another short 6 foot guard who cant play defense? |

Teams are attacking AD now because he rotates too much, and they see we have no size when AD is at 5.
They should stay away with the easy switches if AD is at 5 and when lebron is not at 4. Teams were running layup drills |

30th in the league defensively. this is the one thing Vogel is asked to do.
If we go 1-5 over our next 6 I hope he's fired. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

That’s like giving MDA , KCP, AC and ask his team to lead the league in scoring
Vogel needs to adjust his defense. If he doesn’t have the personal like previous years, then he needs to adjust based on what he has or he should be fired.
Asking AD to step out and leaving our guards inside against their bigs give up layups and offense rebounds |

How do you think Vogel can adjust his defense? To be honest, he seems not to care because he constantly plays Westbrook and Rondo together. He starts Bazemore, even though he is a liability. His rotation isn't good and it affects his defense. |

People going "Well this roster is so non defensive, Vogel wouldn't be able to turn it around anyway."
Okay... then why is he here? Get a coach that could actually instill an offense that can maximize this team as opposed to a coach that only does one thing, and can't do that one thing with any sense of effectiveness with this team. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

As much as I hate what he did the past 2 games, we should give him like 10-20 games. At least with lebron and all the guys back. If he doesn’t learn the Rondo /Russ lineup sucks by next week, I will be pissed |

We gave him bottom tier trash defenders and then expect him to make us a good defensive team. Hes proven to be one of the best defensive coaches in the league the last two years... Either he magically forgot how to coach defense or these players suck at defense like their career defensive numbers suggest. I think its pretty obvious which one it is. |
