If the Lakers keep their starting lineup, and Nunn returns shortly, I would bring Reaves off the bench as one of the first guards. He plays with poise and is a good player off of LBJ bc he’s ready to shoot or move the ball. I worried he would be a defensive liability but he seems to hold his own and even fights in the paint. Rondo/WB as a bench duo should never happen. |

Reaves gets playing time if the coach(es) play the best fit for our team. I imagined various lineup combinations before the season began, and everyone one of them included Kent Bazmore. Baze plays defense, hits his shots, and is intelligent.
Reaves fits that category for me too. He makes few mistakes, has a jumper, has the grit, size, and intelligence to play NBA level defense, and LeBron likes him. He has the jumper of Nunn, but more size. He has a high bballIQ.....we need a helluva lot of that right now. |

Unfortunately Rondo is Vogel’s crutch, when things get tight he freezes up and counts in Rondo making it work. Reaves has good IQ and instincts on the floor, I don’t think that he is strong enough for big minutes but 8-9 a half could pay off for the team. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Re:Rondo. True. I must admit I have a soft spot for Rondo too....for the playoffs, not so much for the regular season, especially at this stage of his career. Reaves definitely will need to grow a bit stronger.
I like his game because it fits with anyone or any style. |

Yinoma - totally agree. In non-LeBron minutes Russ needs to be on ball. Reaves seems to be suited to play on or off ball and be productive. One thing I would be cautious with though is putting too much physical wear on Reaves this early in his career. He had some lower extremity injury issues in college and it takes at least a season for incoming players to get acclimated to the wear and duration of the NBA season. I would find him a role but monitor his physical condition closely (lots of tech to help with that now). Bring him along slowly.
Ventura - yeah, I’m also a little concerned with how much Vogel relies on Rondo. The couple tells that give me hope are that he was readily willing to integrate heavy minutes (and closing minutes) for Caruso and seems poised to work in Tucker in a similar way once he’s healthy. I wouldn’t be surprised for him to open up minutes for Reaves if his play warrants. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

Westbrook and Rondo never need to be on the floor at the same time.
I like what Reaves brings, he appears to be solid.

Unsurprisingly, the Rondo/Westbrook minutes have not been good so far.
Those lineups are a -15.6 during their 30 possessions, have an eFG% of just 43% and defRTG of 115.6. |

What bothers me is that Vogel explicitly stated that he didn't expect Rondo to play much but here we are. _________________ KOBE |

With THT, Nunn, Ellington and of course Ariza out, who is he going to play instead of the players he has? |

The kid is special in terms of composure. THT never earned this kind of trust from Vogel in his rookie season, actually not even close |

How do the Lakers keep finding these guys. First Caruso a few years ago. Now this kid. People were giving Bron heat for encouraging him to be signed back before camp started. This is a legit NBA player with very high IQ. One of those championship role players.
+18 in his minutes. |

Thing I saw in PS that is now carrying onto the games that matter, he is great at being a triple threat, causing the defense to really not know what he's going to do. He is equally capable to be a threat to pass, drive, shoot. No hesitation either, with each. Such an interesting prospect, IMO. |

I agree Yinoma; this kid is a great find. Put him on the floor, with or without stats he makes things happen and the Lakers go on a run. High IQ, plays smart, plays hard, defends. What a great compliment to the scorers we have. |

I don’t think he is going bald any time soon and he will never dunk like Caruso because he doesn’t have the athletic ability (if he does, he would’ve been a high lottery pick)
He has a higher ceiling on offense than AC. Defense is yet to be determined. |

Been saying since preseason, that Reaves needed to see some quality playing time. Not saying that would have changed the trajectory of the first two games, I think he would have given us a better chance to win, imo. I'm also high on Chaundee Brown.
Happy to see him get that time on the court, and that Vogel finally manned up, and played him. Hope he continues to see playing time, going forward. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I'm good with Reaves and he's proven so far to be an adequate role player.
Once our team was fully comprised, I thought that having a good mix of the young players that we have mixed with the vets was a great idea, and Reaves proves this theory.
THT + MONK + NUNN + REAVES, are all part of this teams future as of now and they are young enough to keep the opposing teams honest. A win is a win, so let's keep it going! |
