AD is playing more "out" offense, and this is a more "new" offense, where the Lakers tend to just do a lot of perimeter dribbling early with their bigs up high. Then they want Westbrook to cut or create something, and the same with Bron.
This leaves AD in a role where he is usually in situations where he will be a jumpshooter, or creating off the dribble. It will not always look pretty. He is going to take over a lot of that Miami Bosh offense, but I think we will see more isolations for AD.
Here is what I saw AD do in the Kings game.
Set a high screen for Westbrook for a RW scored layup. ADs man did not leave him, so Westbrook had a clear driving lane 1 on 1.
Another sequence, AD was in the corner, when Westbrook cut and got a feed from Bron. AD was in the spot up 3 corner role.
Another sequence, AD is spotting up for 3 at the wing, while Bron posts up and scores.
Again, AD is at the corner 3 pocket.
Another, AD is setting a screen for Bron at the wing.
Etc.
Those are all just in the first few minutes of the last game with whom I think will be our starters on opening night (DAJ, AD, Bron, Baze, Westbrook). We were up like 17-12 or something. That lineup and using AD that way at the 4 seems to work.
You're gonna hate that AD will play like Bosh in Miami for a lot of the time in those starting Westbrook/James lineups. However here is the key. When Bron or Russell sit, you need AD to get more into that alpha mentality. You have to set him up. You need those plays where he getting the ball close to the basket. That is on Vogel, Rondo and James/Westbrook (whichever of the two is out there) to get him going. AD is who he is, personality wise. He has also proven who he is in the playoffs. 28 points, 10 boards, 3 assists, elite D, 57% FG, 38% from 3, big time clutch 3 point shooting. Big time D plays. He is an all time player at his position.
We have shifted his role since bringing in Dennis, and now bringing in Westbrook. This is not on him, this is on the way the team wants to play. It's tough for me to bash AD, when I saw that whenever he is on a team with Lebron and shooters, he plays incredibly well most of the time and is quite dominant. However we want to utilize him as both a floor spacing/creating outside big and also a low post presence while having 2 other ball dominant guards. That is not a role where you naturally dominate and get 30 points a night. It's more of a 20 points type of role, with a lot of reliance on jumpshooting. This is just the way he has to sacrifice in order for this to work.
Everyone has to adjust really. Westbrook has to keep improving his off the ball cuts. I'm already seeing some good cuts. Bron has to dribble (pound the ball) less. Especially in the clutch having that second pound the ball guy will be good in Westbrook. We would often just milk the clock and get stagnant around Bron that way. AD has to do what he's already showing, just better. A lot more screens, jumpshooting, creating off the dribble from the outside. And then when he is the go to guy (When reserves come in) he has to get aggressive in the paint area. |

Maybe it's just me but I don't think I want AD playing C the majority of the 4th. Perhaps last 4 to 5 mins but anything more and he looks like it causes him to get winded faster. Last thing we need is a winded AD to end every game. |

The guy gets $38 million a year. He should be able to play every minute, especially the 4th. No excuses. If he can't fulfill that, they don't deserve the chip |

Not debating that. I think most of these guys are overpaid. But reality to me is he looks beat when playing too many minutes at the 5 and the sole rim protector. |

It’s not that, being an all around defender like him, he rotates crazy. The warriors were basically waiting for him to rotate out to Curry and started to attack the paint. They got layup after layup when AD was playing 5 and Melo at 4. I’d prefer to play a center with him. FO brought us too many guards and no backup 4s . We had Kuz and Kieff and Trezz for backup |

yup that is probably it. Would prefer Dwight and AD, with AD and Melon if we need some offense |

Missed free throws at 85-78 was huge. This is where they closed 3td Q and came close and took the lead at the end. These 2 missed killed momentum and good period before that. He needs to make these FT.

And GS did a good job of pushing him out to the perimeter. If you can get him to shoot 5 threes you have a chance. Big difference between his early mid/paint game and settling for 3’s. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I wonder if AD missed all those 3s and FTs because his conditioning isn't there yet. At one point in the game he was knelt over and looking tired, and Reggie Miller on TNT said that he doesn't really have his legs yet.
Besides that, AD was pretty much EXACTLY who we need him to be this season. He was extremely efficient, he got double digit rebounds and he made some impact defensively too. |

His first season here, he was an excellent free throw shooter as evidenced by his ft % and his 25/26 (Or was it 27/28?) game. His touch on outside shots was impressive too. Last season he wasn’t nearly as good from the line or from distance, which was evidence he didn’t put the work in during the off season. People excused it because of the short off season. This year, he seems to have picked up where he left off last season. He can occasionally make 3 pt shots, but we have specialists and his strength is inside. That’s why I don’t want him getting the ball as the #1 option and then settling for shots he hasn’t worked his tail off to take when obviously other guys are better at it. He’s naturally talented and such, but I already saw that movie where Shaq tried to improve on company time and I’m not interested in the sequel. |

ANTHONY DAVIS
NEW ORLEANS PELICANS #23 FORWARD
LOS ANGELES LAKERS #3 FORWARD
1X NBA Champion
8X NBA All-Star
1X NBA All-Star MVP
4X All-NBA
3X NBA Block Champion
THIS BROW MEANS BUSINESS.
Anthony Davis aka AD aka The Brow arrived in New Orleans on the heels of the Pelicans trading Chris Paul to the Clippers, he immediately established himself as an impact rookie -- earning All-Rookie First Team honors -- and developing into an All-NBA and All-Defensive Team force by his third season.
CAREER
An All-Star every season since his sophomore campaign (2013-14), Davis has made All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams any time he's played more than 61 games since debuting on both following the 2014-15 season.
A three-time league leader in blocks, Davis already ranks among the top 50 all-time career leaderboard with 1,323. If he maintains his career average of 2.3 for another three seasons of say, 70 games each, Davis will be solidly entrenched in the top 25.
Davis was named 2017 NBA All-Star Game MVP with a record 52-point performance, shooting 26-for-39 (66.7%) and pulling down 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.
In regular-season action, Davis dropped a career-high 59 points on the Pistons (Feb. 21, 2016) while pulling down 20 rebounds. He shot 24-for-34 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3, 9-for-10 at the free-throw line, dished out four assists and blocked a shot ... while committing only a pair of turnovers.
Winner of Olympic gold in 2012, Davis won his first NBA championship playing alongside LeBron James in the Orlando "bubble" during the 2019-20 season interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’m not sure who isn’t on the list, I won’t bother looking at it. Those types of lists are rarely worth the time. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |
