I appreciate you posting that quote. I've observed Baze from afar and he's stayed true to what got him into the league: defense. I couldn't help but envision what might be our best defensive lineups. Baze is always in there somewhere.
Imagine when coach decides to put Russ, Baze, Ariza, LeBron & AD on the court together. Primarily for defensive purposes, but it'll be fun to watch in stretches.
Kent with one of the best introduction presser interviews.
He's so thoughtful.
And his answers have length. And he actually answers the question.
It's pretty funny cuz I think the media only got 4 questions in but the session was 9 minutes due to the answers.
I loved his answer about how he felt when the Lakers didn't bring him back the first time around and how he held onto those type of feelings before he matured and understood the business side of things.
Monte Poole: Kent Bazemore says he wonāt be getting any of the COVID-19 vaccines: āNo sir.ā
Something that could come into play during the season. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though."

That will be our starting lineup.
Bron at the point
Westbrook at the wing close to Bron (to get that closer to the basket secondary attack)
Baze on the corner spotting up for 3
Melo on the other corner
AD in the middle
Going to be very hard to stop that lineup, IMO. Hereās the thing though. IMO, Bron should be the offense initiator and Westbrook play the wing. Not only is the wing closer to the basket that it gives RW better attack angles, if AD comes out to set a screen, you will get defensive switches for RW that allow him to attack easily - and AD, Bron, Baze and Melo are all capable shooters.

I have to try to find the summary of the meeting that LeBron & AD had with Westbrook before the trade was completed. The gist of their conversation had to do with that very approach. LeBron initiating, Russ on the wing.
That will be mixed with Westbrook's bullish fast breaks.
Kent Bazemore says the Lakers wouldnāt guarantee him a role, but heās excited to earn every minute he gets.
āThatās one of the first things I got from from coach Vogel... You have to earn your minutes, and thatās just how I like it.ā
That's good to hear. I thought there was a report that said he took less money and was promised a bigger role. I expect a healthy competition in training camp/pre-season. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold.
Since he's 6-foot-4 (but has a 7-foot wingspan), I wonder how much we can really count on Bazemore to effectively play the 3.
I don't know if I would trust Ariza either since he's almost 80 years old.
Imo folks are going to be disappointed with Ariza. People are just thinking the nameā¦but he has been on a steady decline for 3+ seasons. Heās at the stage where he shouldnāt be playing more than 10 min tbh.
Iguodala and Ariza are living off their rep more than anything else.

Agree completely, I still like both of them but I wouldn't want either to be counted on being a heavy rotation player. I see him somewhat playing the Wes role of last season with more possible options ahead of him. I'm sure there will be times in the season he will have to play more and especially certain Playoff matchups to help with reliable defensive wing depth but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him go weeks without playing at times in the season even if he's healthy. I like his addition overall for the big picture but his days of being a consistently heavy rotation player are long behind him imo for sure.
So this guy is our 3&D starting back court next to Mr. almost triple dub (Iām wishing an 18-8-8 focus on defense agent 0)? Or THT making that 3pt shooting leap?

It's a nice problem but I don't think they'll cut into each others PT if they play as advertised. If THT's 3 improves he is still a weapon of the bench playing "starter" minutes. KB is the better fit with the starters as a much needed defender. If these two flourish, Ariza plays more 4 and guys like Ellington or Monk get a cut in PT.
Top 5 point of attack defenders in 2021 (basketball index)
Had the best +- in defense for his team
87% of his attempts are from the paint or from three. He is a modern day 3&D player
The guy is most likely our 4th best player and might be our second best defender
Not a lot of discussions about this but Bazemore and Danny Green comparison seems to be spot on, both bring that 3-D skill set but Bazemore has more bounce to his step athletically, I think Bazemore is gonna be really good for us and hopefully unlike Green he gives us that 3pt weapon we desperately need.
