The chief of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee on Tuesday did not rule out a last-minute cancellation of the Olympics, as more athletes tested positive for COVID-19 and major sponsors ditched plans to attend Friday's opening ceremony

Can't see this iteration of the Olympics ending well....no bubble and low vaccinnation rates or access. The only reason this is still going on as scheduled is because of the big TV money on the line.

They should have been cancelled already. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Basically with no spectators for all the events, its going to be a very sad Olympics. When this event should be a celebration of the best of sports that usually don't get the attention of the organized billion dollar leagues like the NBA, NFL, MLB, club soccer, etc.

Bad timing indeed but No spectators, this is no different than NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, get the testing, quarantine as necessary and play the game
There's a big difference because this is pulling participants from all over the world with varying protocols for how their home countries have been dealing with COVID. There have already been "holes" in the bubble. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Theres something like 11,000+ athletes plus all the team personnel, media, security, etc....would be a far greater challenge than anything the NBA or NFL has faced. The Japanese general public has a right to be angry that this is still going on because they know that a "bubble" would be impossible to maintain not to mention given how vulnerable the rest of the population would be effected.

Who will be the Lou Williams/Danuel House of the Olympics? Which country is most likely to produce offenders? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Standardize the testing in Tokyo, tight quarantine then it’s no diff then US sports leagues which have been a success story. I agree with you it’s better to cancel it but push come to shove, it’s doable and the blue print is there

One HUGE difference between the Olympics and US sports leagues is that the participants are not unisex and there is quite the tradition of horizontal cultural exchange which occurs quite frequently during the "games". A bunch of teens and 20 something's in quarantine, not named Lolo Jones, aren't going to spend their free time trying to get crowned the King of monopoly. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. How is USA-France this close (45-37) when France has only one all-star in Gobert? It’s like France is actually running plays and the USA is just playing pick-up ball. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Getting dominated inside, not looking good, our team still plenty athletic but zero post plays

damn, embarrasing
France goes on 16-2 run to close the game and get the 83-76 victory. Lilliard, clutchest player in the league, loses his balance on the last possession and turns the ball over to lose the game. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Durant is the opposite of Carmelo. Makes shots in the NBA and misses them in the Olympics. No way that holds but it’s almost like watching a different player.

Doesn’t win in the NBA either unless he’s surrounded by Curry, Klay, and Draymond. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
There are too many good NBA players around the world that Team USA can no longer field their 2nd and 3rd teams and expect to win a gold medal. I would be surprised if this team gets the gold during this Olympic cycle since it seems to be a down year for the roster. Also Team USA not winning the gold every Olympic cycle is actually a good thing for the game globally. It means the sport is growing in popularity around the world.

This is what happens when you don't have a Laker on the team.
These guys have destroyed the air of invincibility of USA Basketball in less than a month. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

The Olympics have undergone changes that caused me to lose interest in the games. Badminton, Beach volleyball, Surfing, Kiteboarding, Breakdancing, Skateboarding. I've missed the basketball games. I haven't found an Olympic schedule and where to watch. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
