I know hindsight is 20/20 but its still a question I believe is worth asking.
When Lebron first signed here, there were many fans who said the Lakers had sold their soul for 4 years of an aging superstar.
So I ask...If LeBron and AD dont win another title together, was signing LeBron & trading for AD really worth it?
The Lakers gave up a boatload of talent to sign LeBron and to trade for AD.
LeBron is 36 years old and has been injured 2 of the 3 seasons he's been here.
He's now giving soundbites about never being 100% ever again.
AD has achilles issues, doesnt look motivated anymore & has a long history of getting injured.
Yes, the Lakers won a title last year and that is fantastic.
That squad will forever be appreciated by the Lakers fans for winning it all in a year full of sadness and tragedy.
However, many outside of Lakers fans will view that title as < because of the circumstances under which it was won.
IMO, I looked at this season as a way for them to validate their title from last season in the eyes of their haters and detractors.
We all know if the Lakers fail to win it all this season, their haters will go all in even harder to discredit the title they won in the bubble.
So again, was it truly worth it?
Was it worth breaking up a young core that developed into 3 all stars ( DLo, BI, Ju) a sixth man of the year (JC) and a ton of top tier role players (Zo,Hart,Zu,LNJ)?
Could that young core of players have grown into champions here with a much larger window?
I ask this question because my Dad and I had a long conversation about this yesterday.
Im sure i'll get some blowback for even posing this question but im curious to know what LG thinks. _________________ Everyting negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise.

We got a title out of it, so IMO, it was worth it. We don't know what the young core would have amounted to in purple and gold. |

YES!
#17
AD (who is by far the best player of the trades, compared to BI/Randle/DLo/Ball… some are also cost max $)
Bron (who is also better than those 4 names, even now)
Everyone else is replaceable, maybe BI is the only one that’s not |

11 teams in this league have never won a championship. 9 more have only won 1. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Of course it was worth it, the banner being raised is the last silver lining left for this terrible season at least. |

Hopefully the team watching that banner being raised on May 12th gives them some much needed inspiration. _________________ “You can't be held captive by the fear of failure or the fear of what people may say.” - Kobe Bryant |

Yes, it was all worth it.
I was skeptical of 34 year old Lebron, but he had the young core in the top 4 and they had a great win Xmas day in GS.
He needed more immediate help and he got AD to join and came back on the #washedking revenge tour.
He proved me wrong and won a chip at basically age 36.
One chip = all worth it. It’s so hard to even win 1. |

Hells yes. 1000xs. Rings for us are all that matters. Plus regardless of how ad has played as of late he’s in his prime locked up. I love the guys we gave up but they aren’t-better than our beat up team |

We got a banner and rings.
Worth it 11 out of 10 times. |

100% worth it. Much prefer winning a ring than having bragging rights to just the potential of winning multiple rings |

Not even a question, it was worth it. Rings are rare as hell. History is littered with teams that had young talent and potential and were seeming future dynasties that ended up doing absolutely nothing. You take a ring when you can get it. |

Absolutely without question. This is the conundrum of being a Lakers fan. We take winning for granted sometimes. Enjoy LeBron and AD together. _________________ “You can't be held captive by the fear of failure or the fear of what people may say.” - Kobe Bryant |

10000%, we won a title, so anything after that is like house money to me.
I don’t really see a boatload of talents at all, and even if they are, we can’t even afford all of them. If you don’t believe me, just look at the NOP. They are no where near a championship |

The trade for AD was 100% worth it. The other trades were mostly a careless misuse of assets. Still, on the whole we are ahead with a banner in the bank, and AD for several more years. We'll see how LBJ holds up. |

As far as reliving 2020 is concerned, I'd give back #17 to have #24 back. |

Yup. If not for Solomon Hill we would be right there as #1 or #2 favorites to win a 2nd chip.
And AD is a 2nd option that you can attract other stars to play with. Going forward you are still in better position post trade. |

Yes we won a chip and LeBron was on his way to an MVP before some scrub jumped onto his leg. |

Certainly worth it for the championship.
But it is likely to be a long next 5-10 years as all the traded players continue their careers to various degrees of success.
As we watch James decline into retirement a couple years too late and Davis try to stay healthy and mentally tough enough to keep the Lakers in the playoffs during a rebuild.
I’d like to think that Pelinka can pull off some post James magic with FAs and the draft. We’ll see.
But we will have glorious memories of the bubble championship of 2021 to feed our souls! |

IIRC there are 13 NBA teams with no championships.
Of course it was worth it. I doubt we win a single ring if we just kept the YUTES. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
