Would we be a better team right now if we had kept these guys?:

Danny Green has more impact alone than most of those guys.
What's worse than losing a player is significantly overpaying them. That's the thing about these young guys, you are paying for potential and the hope they own up to their contract. If not, you are stuck with a mediocre team. If they don't show out by year 3 it's hard to let them hit restricted free agency without possibly overpaying.
Ingram is going to get a near max and I'm glad it's not the Lakers. Randle is getting 3/62M while having major flaws especially on the defensive end. DLo is maxed out with significant flaws on both ends of the floor. No player is perfect but if you overpay for a player with too many weaknesses, you're team is going to be harder to build around to become a championship contender.
Based off our current salaries, I don't think a single player is overpaid other than KCP at the moment. Lebron, AD, Dwight and Kuz are underpaid relative to their performance. Lakers need to keep it that way to keep this championship window open. |

Let's see...
Starters:
PG: Lonzo Ball
SG: D'Angelo Russell
SF: Brandon Ingram
PF: Julius Randle
C: Ivica Zubac
Bench:
SG: Josh Hart
SF: Kyle Kuzma
PF: Moritz Wagner
C: Thomas Bryant
I think we'd be one of those young teams that is good for 50+ wins if I were to consider the chemistry they'd have developed. (Nuggets | Blazers | Jazz territory)
We'd have a scorer off the bench like Kuzma and three 20 ppg scorers in the starting lineup in Russell, Ingram and Randle, and Ball running the show at point guard and the size down low with Zubac.
You'd also have 2 capable passers in the starting lineup in Randle and Ingram and 2 very beyond capable passers in Russell and Ball.
I think that team would win more than 35 games. They'd need a veteran though on the team(like a Lou Williams) though cause all young teams need that veteran or they flounder (like the Wizard were pre-Paul Pierce... and then where they fell back to without Paul Pierce)
If you added our two other draft picks (Clarkson and Nance) to the bench, then we'd have a pretty darn dangerous team because Clarkson and Kuzma's scoring off the bench, Thomas Bryant and Larry Nance Jr's hustle and defense, Josh Hart's sniping.
On paper, we'd be a very deep team. The question is if all the pieces worked together and if Luke(or Vogel) could make it work or were good enough to. In a perfect world, the Rockets would fire D'Antoni, and he'd be coming back to coach THAT team, instead of D12 coming back. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Does not bother me at all. I am especially happy that Lonzo is gone
People were upset when we got rid of Vlade D, I laughed back then also.
Do not focus too much on the past. Look forward to the future and live in the present.

It would have been nice to keep Zo, Mo and Bryant but:
Zo and BI were the cost for AD
Mo would have walked as a FA with Luke around
Bryant was Magic being a Johnson and TB is the one that could have remained on this team. |

Is this really considered doing well? |
He didnt do well. He didn’t do poorly. Kinda typical Lonzo.
I watched the game. Sat out almost the entire second half. |
This.
Lonzo was 2-3 from downtown, but 2-7 overall, which meant he was 0-4 on 2-pointers.
With each game I have less and less faith that he'll fulfill his hype, but he's not our problem anymore.
I'm good with trading Lonzo, BI and Hart for AD, but as others said, letting Randle, Bryant, Zubac and Lou Will go for almost nothing is the troubling thing. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Pretty meaningless hypothetical to daydream about since it doesn't even seem semi feasible to afford to keep all of those guys together long-term anyway. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. Lopez is the guy I wish was still on the team.
Watching him tear up the Rockets down the stretch (with Giannis having fouled out) renewed my unhappiness about letting him walk for no reason last summer.
Eric had the right plan laid out about renouncing him but keeping his bird rights. He'd be amazing as our starting 5. He'd fit perfectly next to AD, leaving Javale as an excellent backup.
Biggest mistake (of many) under Magic. |

Zubac trade was so (bleep) stupid. For what? To appease a center who has played 20 min or less his entire career? |

They thought by adding a stretch 4/5 they could make a last ditch push for the playoffs (along with adding Bullock). It was a Hail Mary to save face on the season and correct an off-season mistake (the idea that we didn’t need shooters). It was also symptom of their mindset that once they feel a player isn’t part of their long term plans they’re willing to dump them for nothing. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Some of these guys have bounced around to multiple teams, and a lot are being paid pretty hefty contracts. It's not like this is a group of cheap rookies anymore. A lot of them still are unproven even after several years in the league. There isn't a superstar in the bunch; there isn't one guy I'd want to be the #1 on my team.
Sure, in hindsight, there are some I would want at their current salary, and some I would not. I would be nervous about handing Ingram a big contract after his rookie contract expires this year.
Bottom line: if we replaced out current roster with the guys you listed above, I don't think we'd have a contending team. |
