I'm not (that) old or a curmudgeon. I just don't believe in drinking alcohol or doing drugs, especially if you are operating a vehicle. He got caught with drugs, I have no sympathy for it. |

Lol, there are things called laws. They are not all correct In my opinion either, but as a citizen it is your duty to understand them and follow them.
If this country and it’s laws are not to your liking
1) overthrow the government and install your own
2) vote and hope things change over a long period of time
3) Leave
If socialism is your thing, pick #3 and move...despite all of the noise from the left wing most Americans aren’t with you. I’m a proud American and Kwame broke a law, sorry if you aren’t proud of our country and what it’s afforded you. Nobody is forcing you to stay. |
You just broke the law,
Specifically U.S. Code § 2385, which makes it illegal to "willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States."
I like irony. |
That’s a stretch. That’s like saying if I say “FU” I’m threatening to rape you, I’m just giving you options bro lol. |

Wrong, dude. It's up to you to know ALL the laws and follow them. Come on be a good American. Dont be like those bums Gandi, Thomas Jefferson, Jesus Christ, the Dali Lama, Martin Luther King, Benjamin Franklin and other godless commies who told people to disobey unjust laws. You're better than all of them. Lead us! |

Wait, so if wealthy people buy elections and manufacture laws that benefit them, this somehow makes them morally right?
It used to be the law that women couldn't vote, that blacks were 3/5ths of a human, that human could own other humans, that a man could rape his wife and beat his children...
Watch old films from the forties and see how many rich people are constantly drinking alcohol.
I think we all know people who were victimized by drinkers, whether by someone getting violent while they were drunk, forcing themselves on women, operating a motor vehicle.
Way more people have been injured or hurt by people drinking alcohol vs. smoking weed... yet because the alcohol is sanctioned by the power structure... drunks are more socially acceptable than weed smokers.
Stop being a sheep and think for yourself.
Every developed nation other than our country has free healthcare.
To a Swede what you are saying is as absurd as us paying for police or teachers.
A Harvard study estimated 45,000 Americans die annually from lack of healthcare.
Meanwhile we spend trillions on war to avenge 3,000 people who died 18 years ago.
Wouldn't it have been better to spend those trillions on healthcare and saved 810,000 American lives... instead of bombing children that grow up to hate our country because well, they were bombed?
Our nation was built on revolution not subservience.
If we just agreed with King George we'd still be British subjects right now. |

Lol, MLK’s first name was Michael, he plagiarized most of his doctorate dissertation and some of his dream speech and had multiple extramarital affairs. Understand, also, as I know I’ve mentioned this here before...I’m black. MLK and his communist backed BS was the beginning of the end for my community. I will just say this... (nothing personal, I just don't have the time to address each point you've brought up in this post)... more often than not, the "issue" with "thinking for oneself", is that one tends to rationalize their thoughts to justify their actions/desires instead of coming to a consensus on truth/reality. All human beings are susceptible to this... even biblical kings (if you believe in that kind of stuff), like David in his actions with Bathsheba. For example, your thoughts on "drunks being more socially acceptable than weed smokers". In the first place, you are comparing apples to oranges. It would be more apt to compare a "social drinker" rather than a "drunk" with a casual "weed smoker"... so you've started off with a false premise, which almost inevitably leads to a false conclusion. Then, I don't believe "drunks" are more socially acceptable... and it is also illegal to drink and drive or to drive with an unsealed bottle of alcohol in your vehicle unless it is in the trunk (which is what this thread is related to). Anyway, the point FortySixn2 was trying to make is... be aware of laws and follow them. If you don't like the laws, attempt to change them (the USA is a country that actually allows its citizens to make, or attempt to make at the very least, meaningful change more than any other).
Also, my belief is that 99% of all people from any country outside the USA would trade citizenship with you in a nano-second if you offered them the chance. The USA is not perfect, but it is a whole heck of a lot better than every other place. Take that from someone who has spent 20+ years living in Asia, 12 years living/working in the USA and 8 years living in Europe. There is not a single country that compares IMO... although many now try to imitate what the USA has/does, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
With that, I'm signing off until the end of the season. I'll see all of y'all during the draft!

Watch those old films with actors like William Powell wearing tuxedos and walking around drunk and they are treated like pillars of the community while people of color smoking weed are regarded like violent criminals.
Watch a documentary like the one called The House I Live in, which explains how laws were written to criminalize drugs favored by minority communities and the disproportionate sentences given out to crack cocaine which was used by blacks versus powdered cocaine which was favored by whites.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_I_Live_In_(2012_film)
Explain why we believe we have the best healthcare system yet we rank 31st in life expectancy vs. nearly every nation with socialized medicine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy
There is a reason why you have thoughts you have and it's good to remember we have been conditioned since childhood to hold the beliefs we have, otherwise we wouldn't feel so great about we've done.
There's a reason CNN no longer broadcasts war footage like they did during the Vietnam era... and it's not superior journalism. |

For starters, a lot about what you are posting about MLK are common beliefs that have partly or widely been discredited.
The name and plagiarism thing are way overblown. You can read about that at Snopes, the fact-checking site, if you care. You can also read there about how the FBI tried for years to find evidence that MLK took money from communist organizations -- and never found any.
MLK did have extramarital affairs. If you care about that, you are different than me. I figure that's between him and his wife.
As far as Malcolm X, according to a recent autobiography he also had an extramarital affair. I care no more about that than I do about MLK's affairs. Like MLK, Malcolm X had his share of character flaws. If you think either of their character flaws invalidates everything they did, again, you are different than me.
I respect your opinion about Malcolm X vs. MLK. However, I realize there is a wide range of viewpoints about both of them among people from all different races, religions, and backgrounds.
Finally: it's easy to get me to let you be. Stop posting on this board. I hope you don't but that is always an option that is available to you. However, if you continue to post, I'll respond however I want.
That's the way it works.
You’re having a discussion; you’re not giving a lecture. You get your say, and then everyone gets their say.
Peace. |

The reality is more complex.
Virtually everyone breaks the law, be it speeding, playing poker at home, cheating on their taxes, etc. The only question is what laws people think are OK to break.
The other point is sometimes it is acceptable and necessary to break laws, loudly and publically, as a protest against unjust laws or conditions.
And that's the point of a thread like this: To discuss where the lines are. |

Break the law, pay the price. If you want to get high or get drunk, don’t get behind the wheel. Sleep it off, take Uber, call a friend. Drive stoned or drunk, just glad the fatso didn’t kill anyone driving. |
