Lakers, Knicks Finding Salary-Cap Space and Big-Market Allure Are Fool's Gold
By Howard Beck , NBA Senior Writer Jul 8, 2015
In the frenzied early hours of NBA free agency, with cash flowing and promises flying, Greg Monroe—Age: 25; Position: forward; Upside: high—paused to consider his options.
New York offered the grandest stage.
The Lakers offered the glitziest legacy.
Portland offered a partnership with a dazzling young point guard.
Monroe would be wealthy no matter where he landed. Every suitor was armed with the same four-year, $50 million contract, the maximum allowed under league rules.
Monroe rebuffed them all and chose the Milwaukee Bucks, a small-market franchise in a cold-weather city, where the NBA spotlight rarely shines.
This is NBA free agency in 2015. The old rules no longer apply.

Lakers in review: LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan pass on team
BY ERIC PINCUS
July 6, 2015, 5:40 a.m.
The Lakers survived a busy week, which started with the introduction of the team's three draft picks, D'Angelo Russell, Larry Nance Jr. and Anthony Brown.
Nance spent his first few days as a Laker apologizing for an old disparaging tweet about Kobe Bryant. Russell recently learned a few tricks from Clippers' guard Chris Paul during a predraft workout.
With the Lakers past the draft, the attention turned to free agency, starting with forward LaMarcus Aldridge.
The team sat down with the former Portland Trail Blazer, but the meeting didn't go well. The Lakers were able to secure a second visit, but the franchise was left pessimistic about its chances.
Soon after, Aldridge chose to join the San Antonio Spurs, leaving the Lakers looking for backup options.

Los Angeles Lakers' Next Era Will Be Headlined by D'Angelo Russell
By David Murphy , Featured Columnist Jul 8, 2015
USA Today
For a 19-year-old rookie who has yet to play in the NBA, D’Angelo Russell exudes a remarkable sense of confidence and sangfroid.
After Monday’s practice for the upcoming summer-league games in Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Lakers' No. 2 draft pick was asked about the kind of leadership role he can take at such a young age.
“That’s something you have to have as a point guard,” Russell told Lakers.com. “I feel I can walk into a room with top players and still try to lead. It’s just a way of nature for me.”

Lakers News: Latest Buzz on Roy Hibbert, Jabari Brown
By Matt Fitzgerald , Featured Columnist Jul 8, 2015
The Los Angeles Lakers largely struck out on big-name free agents but could be on the path to redemption if the latest, biggest news surrounding the historic franchise is any indication.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the Fourth of July that the Lakers are set to trade for All-Star Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert. Jared Zwerling of Bleacher Report heard the same, adding the framework was still being worked on to execute the swap.
With apologies to Robert Sacre, L.A. needed a formidable big man like Hibbert to round out a respectable starting five. Hibbert is a capable rim protector and can dominate at times in the post, serving as a suitable complement to Julius Randle up front.

Jordan Clarkson Believes Lakers Will ‘Surprise People Next Year’
Posted by: Russell Valenzuela Posted date: July 08, 2015 In: News |
One of the few positives to come out the last Los Angeles Lakers season as the emergence of second round draft pick, Jordan Clarkson. After taking over the starting point role midway through the year, Clarkson showed promise and impressed his way into a NBA All-Rookie First Selection.
Things didn’t always go Clarkson’s way during his rookie year. Clarkson wrote a piece for The Players Tribune where he looked back on on his past year and what he learned in the process. He offered some advice for the new rookies and told them to not let all the negatives affect their games:
