The Lakers couldn’t get the centers they wanted so they are looking at the next best, and perhaps only, option left for a veteran big man: Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers.
The Lakers and Pacers are actively working on a trade that would send the 7-foot-2 former All Star center from Indiana to L.A. The Lakers are expected to give up at least one future second-round pick and possibly players who are playing overseas in a trade for Hibbert.
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/lakers-670259-hibbert-pacers.html | Are Jordan and Aldridge (is he a center) "game changer" type of players like Shaq - nope.
It appears that they have enough CAP space to take David Lee, once the Warriors are motivated to trade him
http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/
Seems like just getting Aldridge or Jordan would not be a game changer. Getting both at the same time would have been because Jordan's defense would cover up Aldridge's deficiencies on D, while Aldridge's O would compensate for Jordan's offensive inabilities (meaning: throw the ball into the post and let him get busy)
If we are doubting BScott's abilities - does that mean we are dissing the views of Magic, The Cap, Big Game James, Coop and Silk who fully endorsed his hire? |

Lakers Rumors: Breaking Down Buzz on Jeremy Lin, Amar'e Stoudemire and More
By Adam Wells , Featured Columnist Jul 5, 2015
It's already been an interesting offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers. They started things off by drafting D'Angelo Russell with the second overall pick, which seemed to go against the conventional grain with Jahlil Okafor on the board.
That offbeat trend has continued into the early free-agent period. The Lakers have tried to make a big splash but were spurned when LaMarcus Aldridge announced on Twitter he intends to sign with San Antonio, and ESPN's Marc Stein and Tim MacMahon reported DeAndre Jordan will sign with Dallas when the moratorium ends on July 9.

Have a little faith and patience. The Lakers will be back though it may take a few seasons. It's not going to be easy to replace Kobe and others of the past. Rebuilding can be fun and interesting. |

Congrats to the Spurs once again. They just figure out a way.
So much for big city vs small market; LA lifestyle vs the Alamo. |
I LA's case, he is looking to win now. He never really considered the lakers despite some reporting. In a year or two if the young core can come together, the top FA's will come. But until then, the lakers need to focus on guys not at the highest level, despite their wanting to show the fans they can sign one.
I am not sure who is more stupid at this point: Lakers and Buss for going after the top guys or Phil Jackson and the knicks for doing the same! |

Agreed. Until then, the cavalry won't be coming. Kobe is caught up in a youth movement, that obviously had the lakers trying to chase a top tier guy! |

BUILDING BLOCKS - LAKERS ADD TOUGHNESS AND DEFENSE WITH ROY HIBBERT
By Rich Winter
News yesterday the Los Angeles Lakers picked up, Roy Hibbert from the Pacers was received rather luke-warm by a Laker Nation that was hoping to go big in this year's free-agency period.
Well, Hibbert is 7-foot-2 and while he's not the BIG, the Lakers were looking for, the acquisition of Hibbert gives the Lakers a guy that at his best was a premier defensive center, an elite shot-blocker and a guy that if used correctly in the post, can take over games at times.
Hibbert is just 28-years old and he'll likely benefit from a change of scenery. Let's not forget, this guy was a Defensive Player of the year Candidate in 2012-2013 where he averaged 11.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2.6 apg. Two years ago, Hibbert was an all-Star and a guy many viewed as a top-5 NBA Center.
Whatever mess was going on behind the scenes in Indiana crushed that team from the inside-out and Hibbert has basically looked dis-interested for the past two seasons because of that team turmoil.

Lakers Rumors: L.A. Among Teams Interested In Kevin Seraphin
Posted by: Corey Hansford Posted date: July 05, 2015 In: Rumors |
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Lakers have finally made a move in free agency, reportedly agreeing to a trade for Indiana Pacers center, Roy Hibbert. Despite that, the team may not be done making moves in the frontcourt.
– Have you seen the ‘Bleed Purple and Gold’ phone case? –
According to Marc J. Spears Of Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers are reportedly interested in Washington Wizards big man Kevin Seraphin:
Seraphin would be an interesting addition if the Lakers were able to bring him on. He’s spent all five of his NBA seasons with the Wizards, but has never played more than 21.8 minutes per game in a season. He has the size to bang down low, but can also step out and hit a mid-range jumper from time to time.

Lou Williams Signs with the Lakers: Is 'Showtime' is BACK in LA?
By Rob Perez 3 hours ago
No, lol, dear lord no.
In all seriousness: Hey! This is kind of like … a good signing for the Los Angeles Lakers? Lou Williams is the NBA’s reigning “Sixth Man of the Year” Winner, coming off a career-best season in which he averaged:
•15.5 Points per game
•2.1 Assists per game
•1.1 Steals per game
•2 Girlfriends per game
in 80 total appearances for the Toronto Raptors during the 2014-2015 NBA campaign, and can certainly fill up the box score (the point column, at least…) with the best of ’em. There’s more good news: LA didn’t overpay him! The contract is market value for someone of Lou’s services, and should only be a drop in Mitch Kupchak’s salary cap bucket when said salary cap increases before the 2016-2017 season.
In addition, the Lakers agreed “in principle” to acquire Roy Hibbert from the Indiana Pacers. Yay!

Lakers agree to sign free agent forward Brandon Bass
BY ERIC PINCUS
July 5, 2015, 5:48 p.m.
The Lakers have agreed to sign free agent forward Brandon Bass.
After an ineffective start to free agency in July, getting turned down by the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan and Greg Monroe, the Lakers have rebounded with a pending trade for Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert and agreements with Toronto Raptors free agent Lou Williams and now Bass.
Last season, the 6-foot-8, 30-year-old power forward averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds a game for the Boston Celtics.
The Lakers have committed their available salary cap space to acquire Hibbert and Williams. Unless the team can clear additional room by trading away players such as Nick Young or Ryan Kelly, Bass may be signing for the team's "room exception" of $2.8 million.
The terms of Bass' deal have not been an announced. The NBA is in its annual moratorium, preventing most contracts and all trades from being executed until July 9.

Lakers Likely to Unload Nick Young's Contract to Save Salary.
Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young is a "strong candidate to be unloaded" as the team seeks to clear salary cap space, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. With the pending trade for Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert and expected free agent deals with Lou Williams and Brandon Bass, Young appears a likely roster casualty in an active offseason for L.A.
The Lakers went into this summer hoping to land a big-name star but have turned to alternatives after falling short in pursuit of LaMarcus Aldridge and others. The team plans to acquire Hibbert and his $15 million salary, which the Pacers are hoping to dump on Los Angeles as they seek to go small next season, as well as some mid-tier free agents. Williams has also reportedly signed for three years and $21 million, while Bass will likely get a reasonably sized multi-year deal as well.

Everything You Need to Know from Day 5 of 2015 NBA Free Agency
By Grant Hughes , National NBA Featured Columnist Jul 5, 2015
The NBA free-agency wave crested early, as $1.4 billion in contracts issued the very first day of the July negotiating period.
Now, five days later, teams across the league are picking through the remainder of what washed up on shore.
That's not to say we're dealing exclusively with free-agency flotsam at this stage; there are still useful players out there. As much as anything, it's about finding good fits and good values at this stage which, in its own way, is sometimes harder than floating five-year, $100 million offers at big, obvious targets.
This is the calm after the storm, and what teams do in this post-tidal lull matters.
Lou Williams Took the Lakers' Money
Somebody had to do it, as the Lakers hadn't inked a single free agent until Lou Williams, last season's Sixth Man of the Year, agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract, according to Shams Charania of RealGM.com.
This is a complicated signing—one that highlights how a great value acquisition can sometimes still be a questionable one...
Besides, though the Lakers are limited to the $2.8 million room exception now, per Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, they're remaining active. Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reports Brandon Bass has agreed to join up, and Adrian Wojnarowski hears Young could be on the move—which would make the Williams signing much more sensible.
Signing Williams means free-agency is mostly over for the Lakers, according to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders: "The Lakers just have $2.8 min cap to spend."

Sources: Lakers to sign Brandon Bass, could trade Nick Young
By Marc J. Spears and Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo Sports
Yahoo Sports
Free-agent forward Brandon Bass has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, a league source told Yahoo Sports.
The terms of Bass' contract are still a work in progress because it is pending other Lakers deals, a source said. The Lakers have been aggressive over the weekend, agreeing to deals with Bass and Toronto Raptors free-agent guard Lou Williams and negotiating a trade for Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert.
As the Lakers work to clear cap space to sign free agents and absorb Hibbert's contract, Nick Young is a strong candidate to be unloaded, sources told Yahoo Sports. The Lakers are finalizing details to acquire Hibbert, and there remains a possibility Los Angeles could send a player to the Pacers in the agreement, sources said. The Lakers and Pacers had agreed on a future second-round pick as compensation for Hibbert and his $15.5 million 2015-16 salary getting absorbed into Los Angeles' salary-cap space.

Lakers break through in free agency, agree to deals with Lou Williams, Brandon Bass
July 5, 2015 Updated 6:43 p.m.
BY JANIS CARR / STAFF WRITER
The Lakers, thought to have struck out in free agency, agreed to deals Sunday with free agents Lou Williams and Brandon Bass, the team announced.
The team will sign the players at the conclusion of the NBA moratorium period on Thursday.
Williams, the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for Toronto in 2014-15, agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal, according to Yahoo Sports, while the Lakers need to juggle their roster before coming to exact contract terms with Bass.
Both players will add significant depth to the Lakers’ bench, if not the starting lineup.
Williams, 6-foot-1, averaged a career-high 15.5 points in 80 games with the Raptors. He also averaged 2.1 assists.

Mavericks discussing Jeremy Lin sign-and-trade with Lakers, per report
The Dallas Mavericks are "exploring sign-and-trade possibilities" to land free agent point guard Jeremy Lin from the Los Angeles Lakers, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The move would give Dallas a much-needed addition to its backcourt after major losses to free agency this summer.
