Aww, thanks "Debbie Downer". |
I had to go re-watch that. Do you think Kobe could have drawn that foul on Bowen when he got him in the air? |

What a great read.
I've always liked Vlade Divac, the best center to wear #12 in Lakers history. |

I still remember laughing when Peja missed that 3 in game 7. And then laughing hysterically when Christie shot a brick so hard I could feel it in rancho cucamonga. I knew we had them and the queens were too nervous to really play |

Easily. That was something that always irked me. Bowen was put in popcorn machine and had nowhere else to land. Kobe would've gotten 3 free-throws to win that sucker.
But hindsight's 20/20, I guess. In the heat of the moment, if you see Horry standing wide-open behind the three-point line for a shot to win the game, that's a pretty good option. |

That was a great read! And as those guys mentioned / stressed: everyone talks about the screw job that favored the Lakers in Game 6 but Game 5 barely gets any talk anywhere. _________________

The Kings, should blame no one but themselves, the series choke-job is probably gonna haunt them for the next 20 years unless they get some great player from the draft. |

Especially for a small market team, getting that type of talent to come to their market is tough. Other than the Spurs which have a great management team, it is very hard to build a winner in a small market. |

I was working at a computer lab at my university at that time, and I was scheduled to work during that game. Since this was a time before streaming, I had to refresh the gamecast on espn.com or something to follow what was going on. The Lakers were making a comeback, and I was finally able to leave, so I ran across campus to the main cafeteria where I knew the game would be on. As I entered it, it was the exact moment Horry attempted his shot and that was the only footage of the game I saw. I screamed like a lunatic. I knew it was over, even though we had another game at home. The Dynasty was over. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Watching the replay of Horry's shot...I only noticed now, for the first time, that Kobe looks at the ball, watches it fly over his head, and even before it gets to the basket, he knows it's good.

Haha. Interesting point by Jerry Reynolds on the Horry 3 game-winner.
Quote: | I still say it’s a very poor play by Horry because the Lakers were down two … here’s their power forward standing 25 feet away from the basket. His butt should have been on the boards. What’s he doing? Protecting the backcourt? |

Just to point out, if Perkins/Garnett were not allowed to set moving screens ALL THE TIME, the Celtics don't even have a chance.
Yes, I'm still holding a grudge about the 2008 Championship, treating Leon Powe like he was Lebron or something. |

Game 5 was far far worse than Game 6. There were five blatantly wrong calls at the end of Game 5 that ALL went against the Lakers and clearly decided the game, incorrectly.
But the game in that series that was the most blatantly fixed by the refs from start to finish was Game 2. That is the game everyone forgets about, it was the infamous Shaq "offensive foul" game when he literally fouled out on six offensive fouls, not a single one of which was a legitimate call. It got to the point where Vlade was flopping to the ground prior to any contact at all and still getting the call.
That was arguably the single worst job of officiating I have ever seen....until the 2004 Finals happened of course. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

And if Bynum doesn't get hurt, not only would that be irrelevant, but we'd have 1 more in 2008. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

Game 5 was an embarrassment:
Shaq's "fouls" and 1 FTA the entire game.
Webber knocking the ball out of bounds with about 30 seconds left and the refs blowing the call.
Webber's illegal screen on Fish for Bibby's go-ahead jumper.
Jackson's foul non-call on Kobe's game-winning attempt.
We took it in the ass that game as bad they did in Game 6. Call a spade, a spade.
Game 7 came and they fired up airballs. We didn't. Period. |

The Kings were deeper and more well rounded, but I wouldn't trade Kobe and Shaq for ANY combination of players on that Kings team. That tells me the Lakers had more talent. |
