Just curious. A friend of mine is freaking out because he can't find the title to the car and wants to sell it soon. Does he just have to go through the DMV?

I sold a car recently...but I had my pink slip still.
But yeah, your friend basically needs to fill out a form requesting duplicate title. He can get the form online and a good explanation of everything he needs to sell the car here (this is the CALIFORNIA DMV):
