I am going out on a limb and predicting that former Illini great Deron Williams will have a good game. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Kidd is much easier since he can't shoot.
How can we contain him? We can't. All there is to it.
What we CAN do is let him get his points and stay on the other guys so he doesn't get his assists as well. |

I hope I'm wrong but I think it's not going to be very pretty with Utah's inside game.
Utah 105, Lakers 93 |

You gotta go old school on a guy like Williams. Hopefully the Lakers sent a few bottles of champaign and a couple "ladies of the evening" by his house last night. _________________ Dumbledore closed his eyes and slowly lowered his head before Kupchak. "Teach me," he whispered. |

I like your thinking. How about an oil slick in front of the Utah bench? |

Doesn't make sense putting Kobe on him since they're going to pick and roll him to death. I'd put Sasha on him, and make Deron a shooter. Don't let Boozer get too involved offensively. And whn he goes o the basket, I want Ronny to drop him a few times, nothing easy. I'd also like to send in Mbenga to get a couple shots at him. Nothing dirty, just hard. |

Disagree here. It was Kobe who used to shut down PGs during the 3peat era. He couldn't do it the last few years because of our unbalanced roster. We have injuries right now, but we still have enough fire power that Kobe doesn't have to go for 50 every night. Besides, Kobe could be a defensive catalyst that helps us get early offense and fastbreaks while thwarting their offense.
I do like putting Sasha on him. could result in a technical or 2 |

Toughest game of the year to win. Toughest place to win and we are short handed. A win would scare the %#@&* out of some other western teams nad help lock Kobe MVP. |

I hate to say it, but we are most likely going to lose. Last time we had Bynum and Boozer and Bynum made Boozer play defense. He also gave Boozer a hard time.
Who is going to do it this time? Turiaf?
We dont even have Gasol. Odom isnt much of a threat at all.
If we win, we got lucky... EXTREMELY LUCKY |

Odom actually does well with Boozer, but that can all change with a lack of enthusiam on Odom's part.
The only other factor is Okur....who can basically play that inside outside game. Radman would be the best suited for this job. |
I agree with you and think Odom would do better than Ronny. Because like Stu says "against shotblockers sometimes all you have to do is blink and you will get them in the air" I think this will happen alot with ronny being the main guy defending boozer. I also agree that vlad rad/walton (less walton more vlad rad) would be better suited for okur, but if Odom is on boozer and the 3 is on okur who is Ronny guarding? That part i haven't quite figured out yet. I would think AK would burn Ronny hard. So what do we do? Go small with LO at the 5(LO, vladrad, KB, sasha, + PG) and bring ronny in for millsap or do we keep ronny on okur and lose ronny's effectiveness inside. |

That matchup worries me a little bit. Kirilenko is surely faster with the ball and his length might bother Vlad on the other end. I believe that would be a key matchup in what decides the outcome. Thoughts?? |

well someone could call that sacramento hotel to get their recipe for cheeseburgers...
otherwise i like the idea of using 'the machine'. he needs another member to his fan club. _________________ That said, everything is looking pretty rosy for the Lakers, which brings up the question of whether some of their younger players might find complacency in success.

Blitz him on PnR's. Great rotations behind that, on the man rolling/diving to the basket. Takes alot of teamwork. The "when one bead moves on a string, another one takes its place" theory. Guess it would help if the Lakers had more shotblockers than Turiaf. _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."-The Greatest |

Hopefully we have the advantage tonight. I read that AK47 is not himself after the hip injury so maybe he won't tear us apart like previous meetings.
If Rad is still on a shooting streak, we should be OK. _________________ "Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world and is basically unstoppable when his game is on" - Barack Obama

Guess I forgot to add that: they can also leave Farmar on the bench, since he has forgotten what defense is. If you want to see Williams going off like crazy on the Lakers, put Farmar on him. I guess some of the opinions on here are about right, I'd rather see Sasha get some minutes on Williams. At least the effort is there. _________________ "It's just a job. I'll be happy if Vlad is on tonight, that way he keeps Kirilenko occupied. Keeping him from providing help defense and blocking shots. That will help open it up just a little more for everyone else. _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."-The Greatest |

Kobe needs to have his fadeaway workin well, the double will come harder and it will leave SPOT UP SHOOTERS *ehem* sasha and fisher open. Box out like nobody's business, Ronny needs to have an intense game. Mace Deron's face during pregame? |

Utah scores about 106 per game and shoots just under 50%. I don't think this game is a good matchup tonight for the Lakers however the only way I see them staying close is to:
Hold Utah under 43% shooting
Hold Utah under 95 points
Outrebound Utah and limit second chance points
Otherwise, this is not a close game in Utah with the injuries. |
