I think this is the "goat" record. It will go down as the most difficult (and prestigious) record to break.
Assuming no drastic changes in NBA rules, I think 100 years from now, this record would still stand.
Kareem lost 4 seasons since he couldn’t go straight from high school.
Bingo. Era matters too. With the pace of scoring these days you may just see a young guy of today eclipse Bron if he remains healthy.

Also don't forget they have to match or surpass Lebron's efficiency for 21 years... Which would be the hardest to do.

Lakers' LeBron James is the first NBA player to score 40,000 points.
James scored his first 10,000 points in the exact same number of games as it took him to go from 30,000 to 40,000:
- 10K in 368 games
- 10K to 20K in 358 games
- 20K to 30K in 381 games
- 30K to 40K in 368 games

Kareem was still a contributor in those late stages of his career, but are you really going to compare AD, DLO, Reaves, and Rui, to Magic (3 MVPs in 4 years during that stretch), Worthy (7x All-Star, Finals MVP, Hall of Fame), Scott (multiple 20 point game seasons), Cooper (DPOY and perennial all-defensive), A.C. Green (All-Star, All Defensive), Michael Thompson, and Kurt Rambis?
AD is probably better than any of the non-Magic players of Showtime, but Magic is a top 10 all-time player, who was arguably (either him or Jordan) the best player in the league during that run. Kareem meanwhile was averaging:
Kareem's role during those titles was obviously not being the man and carrying his team to a title. At that stage of his career, if you needed a big basket late in the game, you were more likely to go to Worthy in the post than Kareem. And Magic was head and shoulders above everyone else on that team. Kareem was not someone who you were looking at to carry the team.
Lebron is going to still be playing and adding to his scoring record at 45 years old so in order to break that record, we'd first need to find someone who could play as long as Lebron could. Then we could discuss health, longevity, stamina and talent of that player. Last I check, NONE has existed in the history of the NBA. I don't think anyone has ever played until 45. KAJ and Malone until 42. MJ until 40. Yea, it IS almost a mathematical impossibility to break that record. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024

He's been just as consistent in playoff scoring too.
Less than 2k points to get to 50k reg+playoffs. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
I’m glad Bron made me eat crow the last couple games but I can honestly say I could care less about 40k. Why are people acting like 40k is some sort of a record. It’s kind of a cool round number but any freaking point he scores right now is the most points ever. The headlines make no sense and it’s painfully clear they are just milking it for every ounce.
Maybe because no one ever reached that milestone before, and it might be a while before we see another player even come closed. It should be celebrated to witnessed the first player to ever done it.
Also it was not like he was some player in a major decline trying to reach those numbers. The fact he’s still playing at a high level is what makes it more impressive.
Everything he does is impressive. It’s remarkable that he’s still this good. And yet, he’s not good enough. Not good enough to be your best guy on a title team. Neither is Davis. Is LeBron a championship level superstar for the next 5 years? Clearly not. So he’s a win now piece on a team that is in no position to compete right now. The Lakers org loves nothing more than moments like the 40k milestone the other night. Those are nice moments, but we borrow from our future every time we value them over winning and rebuilding.
We've beaten most elite teams in the West except Denver so I don't know how we're not a win-now championship caliber team. If we dodged Denver or they somehow experienced an unfortunated key injury, the Lakers would then be favored to win it all. As it stands, we're the 2nd best team in the NBA atm. Just need some luck in the playoffs and we're goochie. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024
It’s tricky. He is the all time playoff leader already with 282
If you combined the two,
1) Kareem sits at 1797 games
2) Parish sits at 1795 games
3) Bron currently sits at 1758
For combined games, he gets that next year easy
For season games, it may take him 2 years with sitting out, rest, minutes and all. His minute ticket is higher than a lot of them and he’s pretty much killed all categories. I mean if you put Magic and Brid together Bron has turned them in scoring lol.
Year to year I think he has to weight age, interest, health, and family. Even family becomes a question if something happens to one of his boys and they have another health scare. That seemed to energize him this year as he said he would play for his son this year.

I think the biggest factor is that this generation simply won't log enough games/minutes throughout their career. You got stars in their early 20s having trouble meeting the 65 game mark. _________________ KOBE

Still bringing up an AS game that was almost 3 weeks ago. A game that he barely played on and didn't take seriously. Game play probably not even close to as intense as practice.

To be fair, Kareem wasn't the best player on the Lakers at 40 like Lebron is. He was more like Alfred to Magic's Batman and Worthy's Robin. Not to mention playing style. Just run, more like jog at 40, up the court and get on that block, Magic will take care the rest.
