The Grizzlies made a lot of adjustments. I watched both games. They took away a lot of the easy post up situations we were having in game 1. More, they took away a lot of the passing out of the paint situations we had. They were scrambling like mad. They played with an urgency like the season is on the line (it was).

Even Rui, wasn't getting the same easy looks in the paint. They did a lot of adjusting, and took away a lot of our options. Last game when we ran screen/roll, we had more options. They took away all our initial easy offense looks in this game. Ex: Quick double as soon as AD catches the ball. Ex: When AD sets a screen (for screen/roll play) they immediately switch their defense. Ex: Helping the helper quicker if AD or Rui or Lebron pass from the paint area.

Obviously we did them a huge favor by shooting weak. That's how it goes. Some nights we'll shoot like game 1, others like game 2.

This is why playoffs basketball is so much fun to watch. You get to see these great little chess matchups. You also see why it's so vital to have 2-way lineups and players.

On our end now, we need to adjust to their adjustments.

This will be a good series. Both teams are well matched up. One thing about the Grizz, their offense is shaky. Their defensive potential is elite, but their offense gets dry. That's why we have a great shot in this series. As the 2nd half showed, if they don't have a healthy Morant, they will struggle to have enough offense. They let us right back into the game just by going cold for long. They need Morant to win this series.

Repeating this because it's a LOT more relevant than complaints about x or y player. Memphis adjusted, and they play solid defense. They took away our easy options. Flip side is their own offense can stall and they're beatable. Let's see how we adjust for Game 3.

But par for the course for this mentally and physically soft team.
Should have stepped on their throats and ended the series... Instead...they bent over and grabbed their ankles and gave them life. So sick of these guys.

Exactly, and let's not forget Ham and his small 3-guard lineups, especially when AD sits. Yes, so sick of this.

OK, but there is such a thing as making IN-GAME adjustments, yes? Why wait until AFTER the game?

Like Dancing said........Ham likes to "double-down" on an approach that is obviously not working.

We did make adjustments in the second half though, we outscored them for starters. Ham put in Vando in the non-AD lineup and the defense was less bad too. We started to find LeBron in the post more.

The issue I see is that Ham didn't adjust pre-game! He seemed to have the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality instead of preemptively dealing with some issues we had in Game 1.

Accurate assessment

It has been stated in the media that "For 82 games during the regular season Memphis stood as one of the NBA’s top defensive teams. First in defensive field goal percentage. Second in defensive rating. Fourth in defensive rebounds. So with Morant out for Game 2 of the Grizzlies’ first-round series against the Lakers with a hand injury, Memphis leaned into what it does best"

Problem is that the effectiveness/energy of our offense seems to prompt what type of effort we will have on defense.

Grizzs' weakness is on the offensive end and with the Lakers commiting careless mistakes, as highlighted by "Big Game" Rob was disappointing. We allowed them to get easy shots and to escape easily without Ja and 2 Bigs.

When will DLo get back to his game and when will DS rediscover his game, especially on defense?

Since rebounding is a direct reflection of how much energy is being spent on defense, maybe we will see more of Gabriel (possibly combined with Vando, since we're not getting much production on offense, maybe our focus/urgency should be much on defense, rebounds and efforts)

Memphis was playing with a lot of help the helper defensive energy. That's very tough especially when you have length and athleticism like they do. They played as if their season was on the line(It was).

I can't see that effort 3 more times from them, but they also may get Morant back, which changes how much they have to hold us down to.

Unless we come out with zero adjustments in game 3, we should do a lot better in game 3. There's some little things we should alter in game 3. One of the things should be to NOT force the post entry passes, and not force the cutting into the paint. Once we see that Memphis has taken away the easy post game/around the rim looks, we kick right back out and then go for a drive from the guards or spot up 3s.

Basically our main adjustment should be looking to get more from Lebron, DLO, Reaves, Dennis etc. in guard play. We were relying way too much on an offense that I don't think Memphis was giving us many easy looks on. They adjusted.

Certainly AD will play better as well. But don't force feed the paint when you know Memphis is going to double and force the ball out anyway. We seemed to play right into what they wanted and expected us to do. We want to be able to adjust and modify our offense. Spread the floor more, be more willing to use the guard talent we have. DLO is due a big game. Lebron definitely needs to attack the rim more off the dribble. Once you get that second option of drive and dish, it gives Memphis pause on their defensive tactics. Until our guards don't get more assertive, we will play into Memphis' defensive tactics.

On Point Assessments

Grizzs are very aggressive on defense and there are various counters that Ham can implement to make their pressure work against them.

Since AD has stated that he has seen many different kind of defenses employed against him and should be able to find the soft spots.

Hope that Ja can play to limit the number of excuses on why they didn't win (noting the absence of Adams and Clarke). If he does, DS and Vando should apply great defensive pressure to speed up their play/pace and test how well is his "handles." We should NOT be caught in the "Willis Reed" mentality or Paul Pierce Wheel Chair dramatic flair (for those that don't know, do some research).

We need to find a way to get DS going on defense, anticipating that the Grizzs will be packing the paint and daring the Lakers to shot from the outside.

Look forward to how AR will adjust to the Grizzs' schemes.

The Lakers could make Rui the primary 4, stick him on Jaren Jackson Jr., and have Anthony Davis check Xavier Tillman Sr./man the middle. (LeBron on JJJ was disastrous in Game 1.)

Since DLo struggles with quick backcourts, how will Ham use him especially since he is a minus on defense. Russell is 10-of-37 since the Play-In and has shot under 50% in all 13 of his playoff games, per ESPN. How will Ham unleash his playmaking skills?

Noting that the Grizzs switched on our pick-and-rolls, need to quickly idebtify the mismatches to attack.

Could better spacing lessen the effectiveness of the switches
Better outside shooting from DLo, Rui, Beasley, DS & AR could open the paint
Unleashing DS and Vando's intense defensive pressure before crossing the half court line
Attack Ja, if he is playing
Play with URGENCY
