I'm glad he's on the team and hoping he fits in nicely next season! |
He messed himself up for not having a jumper. That could change though |
Well if you were at thinking Andrew Wiggins... Don't! |

I agree that we've likely already seen his ceiling. But, also no harm in hoping he returns and that Jent is able to help his shooting at least a little. |

Am I the only one who thinks his defense was overrated?
I recall his early games he was doing well and I believe he did well against Harden which got him some recognition. But after that I thought he got blown by often. But I might be misremembering. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |

He is serviceable/ok imo.
He stood out because we had a bunch of pickup basketball players who didn’t know what defense is or just didn’t give a (bleep). |

THAT was what stood out most to me about Stanley.. He gave a (bleep) and plays a bit of bully ball.. He didn't care if we were down 20 he was still trying to push our guys and hustle |

He played like a guy competing for multiple 10 day deals and a minimum contract. Literally one of his last chances to stay in the league and he took full advantage of it. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Why would Wiggins be the guy? Where did that come from? _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

I only saw wing 3's in that video, which is where guards shoot. (Forwards shoot from the corner.)
I don't like the idea of Stanley handling the ball as a guard. However, Thabo Sefelosha and Andre Robinson played next to Russell in Oklahoma City. No one is locked in at the starting shooting guard position. Stanley could win it. |

Another positive about Stan is that he's a sneaky good passer for his position. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |

A lot of the basketball fit and geometry opens up once the Lakers deal with the Russ situation.
Russ/AD are below average 3 point shooters, so the hope is TB/LBJ/SG are at league average or better. Cannot have your PG also be a 3 point shooting liability.
Once we handle the Russ situation, will be easier to see how the potential lineups happen.
I think Stanley will play mostly the 3/4 slots interchangeably. I do think he has a sneaky good handle for a 3/4 and that it should be used. Maybe could grab a board and start the fast break level handles. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I see Stanley Johnson’s ceiling as being a good to excellent defender and shooting 33% from 3pt range averaging about 10-12 pts/gm. I’m not predicting he will do that but saying that’s the best case imo to hope for…ceiling.
Similar in impact to Gary Payton III although at different positions.
Gary was the 2nd guard off the bench (4th guard overall) after Poole so if Stanley can get to be the second forward off the bench as the 4th forward that would be his ceiling. Now to put it in context, I’m not talking about starting or being the 1st forward off the bench out of necessity like last year where he was forced into situations above his ability, I’m talking about legitimately where there needs to be a better forward coming off the bench ahead of him. I think as the roster is currently constructed he will be the 1st forward off the bench which is above his pay grade and ability, even ceiling, (translation…we’re screwed at back up SF/PF) |

I have always loved him.
I think physically he is a beast at the 2-3.
His playmaking is very good and even has a floater.
If he can shoot 36% from 3 he should start at the 2.. but man Brick makes everything diffilcut |

Aeneas Hunter wrote: | Stanley Johnson isn't young by NBA standards. The odds are that he's at his ceiling right now. If you look at his stats on a per 36 minute or per 100 possession basis, he really hasn't changed much since he was a rookie. I'll never say that a player can't get better, but there aren't any signs that he'll ever even reach replacement level. |
His ts% took a sizeable leap last season, from a career .472 (and never higher than .519) — both well below league average — to a league-average .564. Mostly that seemed due to taking a higher percentage of his shots near the rim and hitting them at a better rate.
So I'm hoping he has some room for continued improvement, perhaps to the point where he can be a valuable rotation piece off the bench. Unless he substantially improves his 3-point shooting — unlikely but not impossible — hard to see him starting on a team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. |
