Whats the ceiling for SJ this season? Do you think he can shoot league avg from 3 point this season? _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

I doubt Artest. First Artest arguably top 5 perimeter defender all time. Stanley isn’t in that stratosphere.
Second, Artest was a much better offensive player.
I want to say maybe a poor man’s Julius. Stan has some underrated handles for sure.
he's way better than JULES ON defense BRO
Right. But Jules has a lot on him on offense. Just the archetype. Big physical guy who can handle. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Stanley Johnson isn't young by NBA standards. The odds are that he's at his ceiling right now. If you look at his stats on a per 36 minute or per 100 possession basis, he really hasn't changed much since he was a rookie. I'll never say that a player can't get better, but there aren't any signs that he'll ever even reach replacement level. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved
Better than Brown but not better than Lakers Tatum. _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant
he's at his ceiling right now. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold & contain life, but the quality of life doesn't change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."
If he develops a 3 ball? Regular rotation player on a playoff team. Otherwise he's near the end of the bench and mostly situational. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit)
He’s 26 years old and has never shot above 33% in 7 seasons. He shoots a flat ball and has inconsistent mechanics. Highly unlikely that he’ll jump to league average 35-36%. Hope I’m wrong though.
I've followed Stanley for a long time (generations of Mater Dei grads in my family), and I don't see stardom for the young man, but he was RAW in high school and has worked on his game. He developed his off hand, he used to put his head down and drive right into the lane without regard. At MD it was cool, because he could jump over people. He started to really work on his lateral attacking, and it translated at AZ.
He never had great handles, but they got much better. He's a smart kid with an NBA body. Nothing is promised in this world, but with a decent work ethic and the BBIQ already there, I can see a defensive minded role player that's maybe the 7th guy off the bench.
Anyone saying he hasn't developed though, is being dishonest, or hasn't really watch his development closely. Shot is streaky, but he puts in the work. Kid has a lion's heart!! _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap
4th in wing depth is a bit harsh. I see his ceiling as the first wing off the bench or starter on a team that's heavy on other positions and lacking in wing depth.
I think he'll have to improve his 3pt percentage if he wants to stay on the floor. However, his calling card will always be defense. He has that Ron Artest frame and size, but needs to work on developing the same instincts Artest had. Artest was a dog on defense and would have won multiple DPOYs if not for the brawl. I think Artest was well on his way to the HOF before the brawl derailed his career, so the comparison might be too much.
Some are completely underrating him. 4th wing? Only thing that’s keeping him from being first wing is 3% on his 3pt average. He’s an elite defender who now has handle. And he’s a capable passer. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

Let's not get carried away. You don't remain a 10 day deal player if you are truly an "elite defender." Jrue Holiday? Giannis? Smart? Elite defenders.
I would Stanley probably checks out at average level defender who has some versatility playing small ball PF and can check wings. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

That's how he grades out on the metrics. Against the backdrop of our poor defense, he looked a lot better than he really is.
As an aside, it's becoming a cliche to say that Player X just needs to improve his three point shooting. This is true of about 80% of the scrub players in the league. If your three point shooting goes from 30% to 38%, and you can do a few other things at an NBA level, then you just might not be a scrub any more. It's not like this is some sort of mystery. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved

Nah bruh apply that logic to drafts just because 3 teams don’t see your worth doesn’t mean it isn’t there. He passes the eye test and the statistics test. He’s an elite defender. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins
