I wouldn't exactly call Belinelli a solid defender... _________________ Resident Car Nut.

i think he is.
not a stopper for sure, but very athletic, and actually for some reason he was known as a defensive specialist earlier in his career -( as well as a pg believe it or not...) - i think its because of his great athletic skills.
i just think there's no way that type of athlete, with that type of "fire", won't become a good defender under phil jackson.
this guy is going to be soooooooo good.
so young, and already such a force in europian basketball for several years now.
same can be said for rudy - who i wanted the lakers to get last year, but he is by far an inferiur shooter to marco - which is huge for our team, and is a lot more "shooting guard" than belinelli - who is much more of a tweener.
this is no sasha.
this is a top euro player at 21, and has been for 3 years now... |

I'll take either guy.... Just, it's a lot easier to shutdown Euro players defensively compared to NBA players. It helps that zones are allowable as well. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

no doubt - he has a lot of work ahead of him before he becomes a good nba defender, but he already has the tools to be a fantastic offensive tri fit, and the althletic pottential to be a good defender.
i think he's similar to ginobiliy in that regard - not really a defensive 'stopper", but not someone who you'd call a liablity either.
if it were me - i'd go as far as trade up to get him, but if he's there when we pick and we pass him up ?
that would be just inexcusable imo.
i admit to not knowing all of the college prospects out there - although i know quite a few, but i am that confident about this guy.
i wonder - the ny pick - around 10, should be enough to grab brewer.
the bulls would defenetly want odom, maybe that can be a starting point for trade discussions ?
(obviously we'll need to get more, but a start of the ny pick(brewer) and c.duhon sounds intriguing imo... also frees up our mle for a pf - i think j.smith would be a good fit). |

btw mike - quick question - i can see you're considerred the draft expert around here more or less, so can you point me to the mock draft who you think is the most accurate ?
i saw 2-3 of them, and im' kind of confused - don't know who to trust the most...
i'll be glad to take your advise on that...
thanks. |

^Draftexpress, though no one is even close to accurate until May.
I basically just go to that and nbadraft... then watch for myself. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

My fault boys Seriously though, he was my dark-hoarse pick. Mike, any chance he still doesn't go lottery? |

1) He goes "Smush" in the Tourney.
2. He gets "caught" with a little boy.
3. He gets "caught" with the corpse of a dead girl.
Other than that, Green goes Lottery. _________________ Let the PAB hold out 2 years and walk without his Bird rights if he chooses.

I believe last year, nbadraft.net's mock draft predicted the actual draft more accurately than draftexpress.
But draftexpress is much more detailed at player analysis IMO.
nbadraft.net also changes their mock drafts drastically every week just so all the player profiles can be seen, so it's not very reliable this early in the process. |

Nope.
Doesn't matter. Kids are going to be discovered prior to draft day anyway. A few slip through the cracks, but it's what... 1 or 2 players that should've been first rounders that slip to the 2nd?

I've seen Belinelli for a couple of years or more now. I wouldn't trade up for him. Not worth it in this draft. He's more of a Brent Barry/Marko Jaric type of player, than a Manu. Manu had more of an edge to his game on both ends before he came over. Belinelli will likely have difficulty defending the faster more athletic players, but should be serviceable. He's got NBA range and a little farther out. But he can be very one-dimensional offensively, camping out at three range and chucking up three's with frequency. Good running off picks for catch and shoots. Needs to mix his game up with more drives.
He's a big time chucker right now, though. Aside from his game where he was on at the Worlds vs. USA, he had a pretty poor outing. The U.S. game showed he could hang with the NBA players...but the rest of his Worlds showed when he's off...yuck.
Good news is his favorite player is Kobe. So, if you had a shot at getting into his head to be less of a chucker then maybe Kobe and Phil can do it. But I don't see the Manu comparison...just don't think that's going to happen. |

Yeah, I guess that sort of sounds like Sasha, but no. He's bigger/better than Sasha. Easily.
No way Sasha lights up Team USA even on his best day. |

I watched Sasha for a couple of years, too, before he came over here and he didn't have the presence that Belinelli has on the court. |

You cats are crazy with the Green, Brewer, Wright talk- those guys will be LONG LONG gone by the time the Lakers pick.
Aflalo is more on target- also, I love Marcus Williams' game- guy can play some serious D and he can score.
Just say no to Benelli- but beware of Mitch and Rudy Fernandez _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

i was talking manu in terms of impact, and "fire" in his game - not necessarily specific similarities in their games.
the thing to look at, is that even in your own scouting - which is different than mine - you can just see how great of a tri fit he'd be.
how much his strengths would flurish in the system, and his weaknesses will be a lot less apparent.
i'm telling you - he is the real deal - especialy for our team. |

If Lamar and Luke do not come back soon, I can see us getting about 6 more wins out of the last 20 games. After all we were 3-7 before Lamar went out again.
So we end up around 39-43. That's .476. We'd pick 16th on current W-L %.
On a conference level, .476 would put us at the 8th seed if Sacramento does not catch us. They are 28-32 and 6-4 over last 10, so about 12-13 more wins for a final record of around 40-42 or 41-41-assuming that Artest being out is neutral-does not help, does not hurt.
Picking 14-bottom of lottery or 16 bottom of conference means:
NBADraft.net
13 Acie Law PG
14 Marco Belinelli SG
15 Corey Brewer SF
16 Marcus Williams SG
17 Arron Affalo SG
or
DraftExpress.com
13 Tywon Lawson PG
14 Josh McRoberts PF
15 Al Thornton SF
16 Jeff Green SF
17 Tyler Hansbrough PF
Thanks to Charlotte collapsing we also currently have the 3rd pick in the second round #33 overall. With the unusual depth this year that could be a nice player for us or maybe we can package the 2nd rounder to move up a couple spots with a team who would pick for us and move down when we pick for them-assuming some differing positional needs.
For example, Chicago has the Knicks pick which projects at 12 now. They are set at PG/SG. They may want a PF to replace PJ Brown and most of the good ones are already gone at 12 and others are projected later. They could pick a PG a little higher in the lottery for us and we pick the PF project for them a little later. |

Okay, I'm just now starting to think about the draft, and I haven't watched much college ball this year, but I'm wondering what people think about Darren Collison? I haven't seen any indication that he's going to declare this year, and I know he's really small and has a slow release on his jump shot, but with his speed and quickness and defensive intensity, he seems like he could really help the Lakers. |

His defense is inconsistent, in terms of effort. I wouldn't place it in the sucks category though. He has the ability to be a decent quality defender.
He moves well without the ball, something we really miss in our offense. He would make a good comboguard in the tri, as he has good court awareness, handles, passing ability and smarts. The only thing that worries me is that he can disappear for stretches, and lacks consistency on his shot.
Arizona has struggled of late. Let's hope they get an early exit (sorry Wildcat fans), as I'd love for his stock to drop. He had a pretty good showing in the tourney last season, and I was expecting the same this March. |
