yes cops get paid a ridiculous amount of salary, OT, and benefits. "Oh they put their lives on the line!"... they dont even crack the top 20 of most occupations with highest on the job death rate.
Also I recall reading article that basically outed a little talked about secret of cops going out their way to make a discretionary arrest at the end of their shift... just to log an easy OT charge. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

To me. Anytime a cop kills someone instead of taking them into custody. They failed.
To most law enforcement. As long as they make it home that night and still have their job, they consider the day a success.
That huge gap is the root of my displeasure with current law enforcement in this country.
Also one more thing, for every 1 murder committed by law enforcement there are X times more events of non-lethal violence, threats, misconduct, bias, prejudice, corruption, etc. Deaths that get national attention aren't the tip of the iceberg. Deaths in general (at the hands of law enforcement) is the tip of the iceberg, when factoring in all unacceptable behavior law enforcement gets away with. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Today was a significant step forward towards equal justice for all, but in the grand scheme of things it was a very small step.
One of the biggest problems our society has is that many people put cops on too high a pedestal, and as a result they automatically side with them whenever they do anything that kikanga mentioned above, instead of looking at both sides and coming to a conclusion based on the facts of the incident in question.
On top of that, our society has a knee-jerk reaction with vilifying people who have been charged with crimes, even petty crimes.
Maybe those are the things that really need to change, even more than police culture. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Yeah, this is bad.
He dismisses an expert in law enforcement and then laughs about the whole situation.
Not one thing about this whole situation is worth laughing or joking about no matter what side anyone is on.

If you dig into their on duty deaths, you find that heart attacks and traffic accidents tend to outnumber being shot by criminals. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

That last is the funniest. For most cops, the pay & benefits of being in law enforcement offer them a lifestyle they couldn't get in another profession.
LAPD rookie starts the academy at $70,804.00
Academy graduate gets bumped to $74,804.00
After 12 months: $80,053.00 to $83,144.00
Minimum annual pay increase = $4,409, plus 1.5% COLA
Work 3 twelve hour shifts, then take 4 days off.
Full medical/vision/dental AND a defined benefit pension plan.
Sick Leave and Disability Benefits
Sworn employees receive 12 days of 100 percent paid sick leave, five days at 75 percent, and five days at 50 percent, upon hiring and each year while employed. Employees may accumulate up to 100 days at 100 percent, 75 percent, and 50 percent paid sick leave. Employees are eligible for a service-connected disability retirement beginning on the date of graduation from basic training.
Vacation and Holidays
Sworn employees receive 15 days of vacation per year after one year of service and 23 days per year after ten years. Every sworn employee also receives a total of 13 paid floating holidays per year; one day every four weeks.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd the big boondoggle - OVERTIME!
Galperin also maintains a database dubbed Payroll Explorer, which details personnel spending across the entire city. Its most recent figures, from the calendar year 2018, reveal that 20 LAPD employees that year earned more than $100,000 in overtime, with some making more in OT than they did on their base salary. That includes an officer who padded his or her $110,000 salary with $149,414 in overtime. Add in additional expenditures and the person’s total compensation was almost $289,000.
Median LAPD officer makes $113K in base salary . . . which trails LAFD, where the median salary is $158K.
And my dumb ass went to college . . . |
Police unions are a huge problem (and both left/right really struggle to come to grip with this because of their agendas). But if you want change in the system, that's what you have to come to terms with is how massive their power is and how they are run by old school cops to protect cops... vs protecting/serving citizens. To be honest, unions aren’t in and of themselves a problem if they are engaged in bargaining for pay and benefits and working conditions. It’s when we allow them to cross the line into legal advocacy for cop misbehavior. But the reality is that municipal employees, elected officials, and citizens have had a much larger role in allowing that to happen than have unions without their implicit and explicit support. _________________ “We must always take sides. Well...Those abuses above are pretty much because they negotiated to have that. The vacation days, sick days, overtime abuse etc. are pretty outrageous. They are in a very unique position to leverage the crap out of negotiations.
If you can pull legal advocacy away from a union (any union) for member misbehavior, great, but they usually go hand in hand. That would be a great place to start with police unions. I think we've all seen enough of the good ol' boys running these police unions stacking the deck heavily in favor when it comes to dealing with misconduct. |

One of the biggest issues is Government Unions negotiate with short term politicians that are usually out of office when dealing with long term issues like crazy retirement benefits come due. They trade the immediate payoff of votes and political favors for a bill the next guy/gal (and citizens) will have to pay. |

That’s a catchy sound bite, but most negotiations take place with the professional corps, not the politicians, and if it were so easy to do what you describe, teachers would be a lot better paid. And even the political stuff is much denser when you get into budgets and tax ramifications. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. No, they don't. I am in a union. I have several friends who are also in unions. None of us are protected against negligent or criminal behavior by our unions. And we certainly don't have union sanctioned qualified immunity in the manner law enforcement does. To compare police unions to the vast majority of other labor unions is by no means apples to apples. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

The key problem with the police is that most misconduct is investigated and forwarded by cops (who are members of the same union) to prosecutors who rely on cops and judges who come up through that system. The bad union here isn’t the labor union, it’s the cultural union of all the forces interrelated and incentivized to protect each other. The labor union looks like what it does because it is composed of the officers who are part of the larger conspiracy. _________________ “We must always take sides. Brett Favre says it’s ‘hard to believe’ Derek Chauvin meant to kill George Floyd
Quote: | “I find it hard to believe, and I’m not defending Derek Chauvin in any way, I find it hard to believe, first of all, that he intentionally meant to kill George Floyd,” he said Wednesday on his “Bolling with Favre” podcast. |
Quote: | Favre, 51, also responded to the heat he received last week for saying that politics should be kept out of sports, before then calling players kneeling for the national anthem “a shame.”
“I just gave my opinion. I’m certainly not a racist in spite of what some people might think, and you know, I’m for unity and I just feel like there’s a better way to unify our country. That being said, there’s a lot of things that need to stop,” Favre said. |

He has been showing his true self for a while now.
Favre and Chauvin all think alike.
If "I have Black friends" were a person it would be Brett Favre.
I did catch the disclaimer at the end because he knows what he’s posting is racist and harmful.
They genuinely believe he did nothing wrong. |

Someone needs to tell Brett that Chauvin was convicted of second degree unintentional murder, |

Hopefully, this is the beginning of policing the right way. That officer is a craving coward, punching a handcuffed WOMAN. He's not fit to be a policeman. He should be fired, not suspended, FIRED _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
