When he brings the ball upcourt, he brings it up at half-speed looking to set himself up, instead of pushing it down the middle of the court and looking for the open man on the fast break.
THT is even more of a shoot-first player than Schroder. |
Guy is 20 has all the time in the world to improve his game |
This is the key to remember. Only 20 years old. Absolutely needs to improve in certain areas. But he looks to be able to do it and is in an a perfect position to do it if the team and fans can be patient enough to let him develop.
He needs to improve his Defense? Good thing he is a member of top defensive team with coaches that emphasize that end of the court.
He needs to improve as a facilitator? Good thing he has James and Kidd in his ear to teach him to “see” the court.
THT has a bright future with the Lakers. He just needs to continue to work hard and improve. He strengths are intriguing. I could easily see him as the starting G for a long time.
IMO the issue will not be him, it will be the organization trading him away for a quick fix player. They resisted with Lowry because the price was too steep overall. But who knows the next time? |

NBA players recognize how special he is. That spinning right-handed layup from either side of the basket, that's already his signature shot. Not many NBA players can brag of a signature shot let alone a 20 year old. |

This summer. Make (not shoot) 1000 3s.
Work on the left hand.
Hopefully Vogel and company can help him better with team defense (especially not ball watching and getting beat on cuts or pin downs).
I really love this kid. Think he has a lot of great tools and gives our backcourt a really versatile player. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

This dude has good takes:
"I keep harping on this, but 53% (!!!) of Talen Horton-Tucker's shot profile consists of chances at the rim. That's in the 100th percentile among combo guards per @cleantheglass. Again the finishing should improve (incorporating the left will help), but just getting there is big." |

About his defense, on a recent Lakers Nation YT video it was pointed out that the net rating with THT on the court since Lebron has been out is about a +4. Regardless of the context that is indicating he is working well within the team defense concept.
Dudley on the Ringer podcast had mentioned that teams identify and attack the weak link on their opponents. I just don't see that happening against THT. Obviously it is a continual learning and growing process for him but he is not the huge liability as sometimes it has been stated here.

You either have that skill or don't. And he has it in spades.
Now if he works on that left and a reliable 3 pointer... _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

3 pointer is a higher priority - he's finishing well even without having the left. |

He's a special player. He reminds me a bit of Ron Harper AKA Phil Jackson's ideal combo guard. Deceptive quickness, long dribbles and underrated ability to get to the rim. Probably the best asset on the team outside of Lebron and AD. |

Harper was a tale of several careers.
Early on, devastating scorer.
Then he had a knee injury. Turned into a defensive menace, less of a scorer. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

He loves him some reverse layups. He occasionally makes it harder than it needs to be. |

I think I saw a nice left handed layup from him today. This summer may be one of the most important ones for him to add a bunch of skills. I think the team will at worst depend on him as a possible 6th man, and depending on how things go with Dennis, may have to step up and start. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Seeing what Julius Randle has become, anything is possible with hard work and dedication to your craft. |

It wasn't like it was a wild dream that our draft picks could become good. I mean they were freaking lotto picks. LOL! It's just Los Angeles had no time for people who worked hard and dedicated to their craft. Lakers wanted ready made super stars. Worked out for everyone. |

Just read where this is only going to be his 66th game going back to last year. Kid hasn’t even finished what would be considered a ‘rookie’ year.. |

I am quite impressed by Jules. He looks comfortable with that midrange and also he has extended his range . It was like a light bulb that I was hopelessly waiting when he was here. I think THT will eventually figure it out once everything slows down for him. |

Only positive during the loss, THT getting reps and hitting his 3s.
He’s getting better every game and his man on man D was solid. Love watching the kid play and improve. |

I think what's super exciting about THT is that he doesn't have an obvious limitation to his growth. Not super skinny, nor problematic work ethic, or history of injuries, or poor shooting for, etc.. it just seems like he can only get better in everything and he definitely will.
Looking forward to seeing him in his 3rd or 4th year |

I don't care how, but front office needs to find a way to keep him. He is future of the Lakers alongside AD. If it means to lose DS and Trez I am in.
Don't really care about others like Caruso, KCP. If they need to be traded for THT to get long term contract than do it. He has unique skills and will become great player. Everyone can see it. |

last couple of games i thought that he improved his body a lot! Doesn't look as doughy than last year. Muscles in his arms are more visible.
that'll help him being more explosive though his 1st step isn't really bad. _________________ White guy to white guy alley oop |
