Who do Republicans have as viable candidates in 2024 besides Trump? I don't think he can win. Unless the Republican party does a facelift I don't think they really have a winnable candidate. IMO whoever runs will have to cheat. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It's not about who can win overall. It's about who can get out of the primary. No one (at least no Republicans) feels anyone can beat Trump to win the nomination. _________________ So glad we gave you your flowers while you were here, Kobe. |

DeSantis prob would do well, a Trump-DeSantis ticket would solidify that base but Biden-Kamala should be able to beat them |

As much as they'd want to be his VP, I think they all secretly hope he dies very soon. And then they all can claim that he endorsed them. They're all ambitious authoritarians, and they don't want to wait another four years. People like Cruz and Rubio and DeSantis know the Electoral College works in their favor and they know voter suppression laws will have a big impact. And if they can get back the House and/or the Senate, they can overthrow a close election that they lost. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Four years (or three if we're talking the start of the campaigning) is a long way away. You figure that we'll know if Trump has any chance within the next two years, and likely much sooner. All the indictments I expect to come will probably occur during that time, making no mention of the evidence that's likely going to be revealed in the civil suits that have already been filed (and still might be filed) against him.
I think most Republicans will be more than happy to jump on the anti-trump train as soon as they see some light of day. They just need the permission that a barrage of criminal lawsuits and previously undisclosed, damning information will provide. Once the tide turns on Trump just enough, I think we'll see a cascade. Only question is how much time and how much new info it will take to get us there. Certainly, we've all been wrong before about where the line would be drawn. I don't expect it will be any more clear for at least a little bit. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

The thing is, we have been expecting that for a while now . . . and the more time that passes, the less likely it is to occur. We've been hearing about all this mountain of evidence and how SDNY etc are just champing at the bit to go after Trump and how it will certainly be Trump's downfall for seemingly forever . . . yet here we are and there he still is. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

He murdered Sicknick. There are no depths of depravity deep enough to trigger his downfall. He will be the GOP until he physically isn't around anymore. |

Federal agents executed a search warrant and seized Matt Gaetz’s iPhone last winter as they do with all innocent people. |
The FBI doesn't seize a congressman's phone unless they have some serious concerns. And it turns out his indicted friend Joel Greenberg has been cooperating with the feds since Dec also. All this under Billy Barr's DOJ. Dec was when Gaetz asked Trump for a blanket pardon also I believe. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman |

It appears the GOP knew what kind of pervert Gaetz was, way back in December of last year, but kept silent about it.
QAnus and other GOP nuts need to get in a tizzy about one of their own doing exactly what they said Hillary (and others like her) were supposedly doing.

What a great story!
CEO Hits Back At Fox News After They Derided Him For Offering $70,000 Minimum Salaries
Quote: | Back in 2015, the tech entrepreneur shocked the business world by slashing his own $1.1 million pay package to help fund a minimum “living wage” of $70,000 for all workers at his credit card processing company Gravity Payments.
Price’s decision led to him being heavily criticized as a “socialist” on Fox News and Fox Business. In addition, some clients dropped Gravity for reasons that included fears the salary hike would cause their rates to rise.
But in the years since, Price has been hailed as a success by Harvard Business School and Inc. magazine, which noted the number of employees at Gravity has doubled while the value of payments that the company processes has gone from $3.8 billion a year to $10.2 billion. |
Embedded in the story:

Since our $70k min wage was announced 6 years ago today:
*Our revenue tripled
*Head count grew 70%
*Customer base doubled
*Babies had by staff grew 10x
*70% of employees paid down debt
*Homes bought by employees grew 10x
*401(k) contributions grew 155%
*Turnover dropped in half _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

They were hamstrung until he was no.longer President. SDNY just hired forensic accountant to go through all of his financial records which they only received after he left office. There sre least two lawsuits I know of filed by house reps for his role in Jan 6. There is also the ongoing defamation lawsuit against him which is now moving moving forward. There are apparently a number Rod other investigations going on, including possible charges for obstruction of justice relating to the muller probe.
Its been 3 months since he left office, and only like a.month since Garland was confirmed. Patience. You may be right two years from now but I don't see there being any real delay right now to cite to justify the pessimism. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Yeah, there were some unrealistic expectations that either the state of New York or the SDNY would issue indictments at 12:01 on January 20. It's only recently that they got some of the financial documents. It takes time to go through hundreds of thousands of pages, get people to cooperate, and build a case. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

The pessimism comes from a lifetime of observing that people like Trump virtually never see and meaningful consequences for their actions. We'll see what happens, and I certainly hope I am wrong in believing that Trump will skate, but I'm don't anticipate otherwise. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

We should never have entered into a war with those piss ants. Much like the war in Vietnam, the objective crouched in political nonsense rather than any sustainable, pragmatic goal. And like Vietnam, once our naiveté was exposed the rationalization to continue the war changed. The end game will be the same too, once the US stops using the military force and money to prop up a weak government, the country will fall.
Our presence in both wars only provoked more instability within each region.

Wrong. We screwed up badly after we had Bin Laden cornered at Tora Bora. That should have been the first clue that we had no idea what we were doing there. Needless to say, Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, and of course al Qaeda is still at work in Afghanistan. The real opponent of course in Afghanistan was Taliban, who will fill the power vacuum after the US leaves. |

And Biden has totally miscalculated choosing 9/11 as the targeted outdate. I know the idea was to tie it into what that date symbolizes for us in the United States. But, as several experts on the subject of Afghanistan and the Taliban have pointed out, that date carries heavy symbolism for them and others who align with them - one of victory over the US . . . a day they successfully brought misery and death this nation. Setting that date as the target plays into their ability to call the withdrawal a victory for them—The US retreats based on a deadline that is a great day for them and one of pride. This adds to that pride. Especially since, as you point out, they will now have a power vascuum to fill.
Just a really foolish choice to tie the withdrawal to such a date. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
