Dwight messed up man. He would have been the starter this season. |
Did he really mess up, though? He's playing well in Philly, he seems to be enjoying himself, and who's to say his odd of winning there are any less than his odds of winning here.
I think we messed up by not nailing his down immediately. |
I think when it’s all said and done, both sides will feel like they messed up. |
This.
Rob should have just given him the minimum and made him feel warm and fuzzy. Dwight should have sat tight for a couple more hours.
No doubt Dwight would rather be here where his wife plays and where he tweeted excitement about staying. |

Both sides didn't mess up. Dwight could have waited and decided to get in his feelings.
The Lakers got him to the point of tweeting he was staying, he is the one that changed his mind.
If we had to choose between adding Harrell or keeping Dwight, I'm picking Montrezl 10 times out of 10.
We could have had both, but that's on Dwight, not the Lakers. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

So Dan Woike of the LA Times is reporting on IG the Lakers are targeting Whiteside and McGee....I personally am good with Jones I guess they're not...a consistent shooter is more important IMO...We'll see where this goes. |

No. McGee would have to be traded to another team, then bought out. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Any player would have felt disrespected if he had expressed much interest in staying with an organization and that organization didn't welcome him back with open arms. Dwight tweeted he was excited to be a Laker again the Lakers told him some BS about needing management approval. Where is Dwight's fault in all this?
If I really wanted Dwight to stay, I would have offered him a contract as soon as free agency started already. Harrell was signed later so they could have had both. BUT Pelinka wanted to go in different direction with a starting center that has some offensive skills lsuch as excellent passing with three point shooting like Gasol.
How is this not all on Pelinka? He's the guy that signs the paper. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024 |

Remember, Dwight was saying that he thought he should get paid. I doubt that meant another minimum deal (and folks here were worried Dwight would get a full MLE deal):
Quote: | I would love to come back and play for the Lakers again. Hopefully this year they give me a contract ... that’s the biggest thing. I don’t want to play for free anymore. |
https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2020/11/17/21572848/lakers-free-agency-rumors-dwight-howard-re-sign-guaranteed-contract-negotiations
So I think Dwight wanted more than the minimum, but Rob had to work under the hard cap to sign guys like Trez/Wes, so every $ would matter. Probably told Dwight to hold on a minute while they figured the hard cap space out. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Why did we have to choose between an undersized 6'6 bench center and a legit defensive anchor of a center when one was going to have the MLE and one would have gotten the veteran minimum?
You keep spitting this nonsense about having to choose between them. I know you've got a crush on Trez and think he's this ideal bench center but that wasn't the case. Both could have been had. A bench unit of Dwight/Trez/Kuzma/Wes/AC + THT and Keef would have been too much for teams to handle and also gave us insurance in case something happen to Marc and AD.. especially if they were out at the same time.
I like Trez. This is not a bash him type post. This is simply saying we need another big man, for some reason you disagree (until Cousins' name came up) yet you keep making this a Dwight over Trez conversation. |

I could see the Lakers target these guys
Myles Turner
Brook Lopez
Bismack Biyombo
Al Horford
Horford would obviously have be through a buy out |

Read my link above. IMO, Dwight wanted more than the minimum. Maybe he wanted Wes's BAE (not girl, the $) and Rob had to think it through more. So Dwight then took a lesser deal (Lakers could at least offer 120% through non-Bird rights minimum) with the 76ers. Very Dwight. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Sorry but you're completely misinformed....There was a good article written on how it went down...Dwight's agent called Rob and Rob said they were definitely interested in bringing him back at the minimum...Agent informed Dwight who went public and stated he had signed...Rob then called the Agent and said "not so fast, we haven't offered him the contract yet." Rob then turned to Trez ...Dwight had his feelings hurt because he thought Trez was the back up now and they still had McGee. He then turned his attention to the Sixers and that was it.
It was that simple at honestly I don't blame Dwight...Rob could have told Dwight we're going to sign you and trade McGee so you can start...but how long would that secret be kept from coming out? Rob should have signed Dwight to the minimum right from the get go and none of this would have happened. |

Please post the article. And if it was Dwight trying to spin it...well.
It didn't help that Dwight was saying that he didn't want to play for free anymore...what does that mean? Obviously he got a minimum deal last season...so by saying that, was he saying he was ok with the minimum? Doesn't make any sense. Neither does Dwight. Ever. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I'll try to find it...it came out just prior to his presser with Philly...Also when he initially announced he was running it back with the purple and gold...it was for the minimum which in his case was about $3 million. Same deal he got with the Sixers. Rob thought Dwight was going absolutely nowhere and overplayed his cards by turning to Trez without reassuring Dwight they would still bring him back...and yes Dwight is a bit sensitive still. |

I have zero trust in Dwight. Long track record justifies that.
There is no way the 76ers could offer the same. The Lakers would offer 120% of the minimum due to non-Bird rights. He took like close half a million less.
I still think Dwight wanted more money. I don't trust his narrative at all. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I obviously don't have it sourced, but I would bet that Dwight wanted what became Wes's BAE, which I would have been ok with. That's why he talked about not playing for "free" (i.e. minimum) again. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

That's your opinion and that's fine...I know what I read and if you follow the tea leaves it all adds up...he was more than happy coming back for the minimum...but when you're told on top of that to wait and you sign another back-up center...I could absolutely see him being hurt and feeling under appreciated. |

That's where we disagree. I don't think he wanted a minimum from the Lakers. My guess/opinion, he wanted that BAE, which is only a few million more. I think he didn't want another minimum season from the Lakers. I think he felt disrespected for not getting it.
Remember, I 100% wanted him back. I would have actually been ok with giving him Wes's BAE too. So it's not a "Dwight hater" viewpoint from me. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

i bet you that's it.
if Rob wanted to throw Dwight under the bus, he'd explain "dwight said he wanted more than the minimum. i was going to him BAE, but then Trez came available for MLE. and after all that, Dwight took the minimum in philly. OF COURSE i would have given him the minimum. he told me he wanted more than that."

Thanks buddy....wasn’t exactly the article but close enough. It was the minimum but Rob never offered it and then pursued Trez. Dwight being sensitive felt disrespected because they signed another back up center and McGee was still the starting center. There you have it. |
