I'm not sure but I also don't think it's happening. A few players (Josh Hart included) tweeted months ago a December start date "wasn't happening" so it's one thing to want this but it's another to get the players to agree

I don't see the owners floating it without running it by the players a little.
Remember a 72 game season is a concession. Also, doing this lets the international players get to the Olympics, and so ALL those guys want this over in June, 21.

They expect to have everything agreed upon by October 30. If the players won’t agree, the league can give their 45-day notice to invalidate the CBA. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
I don't like it for several reasons. Hopefully, the players complain about it. I would rather see a start date around MLK day. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold.
It's terrible for us. I was thinking of a 41-game half season. 72 games is almost like a full season. The hiatus due to the pandemic played a role in getting our veteran players namely Lebron much needed rest. The more games we play during the regular season, the worse it is us since we're gonna make the playoffs anyways, playing more regular games would only tire our key players more. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024

Season is ending in August. They aren't stopping for the Olympics. Only players who don't make the playoffs will be able to make the Olympics.
Lol it hurts the lakers quite a bit early, I mean Anthony Davis wasn’t exactly walking on healthy legs by the end, nor was his shoulder
Lakers definitely have to manage their players minutes if this happens. Not load manage but there definitely needs to be careful minutes distribution. Like lebron (gonna sounds ridiculous) should only play 25mpg first 10 games. Almost as if it’s preseason
Lakers need to get deeper or this can get ugly. No teams really have any major advantages
Only some have disadvantages like the nuggets and heat who were pretty beat up by the end. It’s gonna hurt them
Paul George was struggling with some pains.
It’s gonna effect more negatively
Honestly they should treat this like a lockout year and shrink it to 50 games or so. I doubt they will but you may see a lot of unfortunate injuries. Look at the nfl this year. It’s a trainwreck with injuries

Seems like too short of a turnaround-- need at least a three month break.
I would recommend a 58 game season-- play every team in the league twice. Or maybe play against teams in your division three or four times. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

This is what I was thinking. Figure:
(a) A 50-game season, so long enough to be meaningful but not a full 82-grind given the weirdness of this season.
(b) Playoffs starting in May and end in July, so maybe a month behind usual schedule, and make it easier to return to normal timing in 2021-22.
(c) Players and team personnel get to spend holidays with their families after all this craziness.
(d) Start the season on MLK Day and use it to springboard renewed social justice efforts that the players universally support.

Yep, if the players want to get paid they will have to play a longer season.
The regular season is 82 games to generate more revenue for the league.
Everyone suggesting less games just remember the players will end up taking a financial hit.
Sounds a little optimistic doesn't it? Even a few more weeks would do wonders for putting a little separation between this season and next. Draft, free agency, training camp in 2 months? No pre-season? _________________ KOBE

From mid-March to late December we will have played 8 seeding games (which we treated like pre-season) and 21 playoff games, all without travel. I think our players will be ok. Plus, we don’t have to establish ourselves going into the year or fight for the #1 seed. LeBron can sit 14 games and we will be fine.

We can't sleepwalk through the regular season like that and expect to win the championship. The league will be even stronger next year, plus if Lebron sits out 14 games we'll lose several additional games, not to mention chemistry, cohesiveness, chemistry and confidence.
Instead we should limit Lebron to about 25 minutes a game at some points in the middle of the season. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
When they discussed the bubble plan for last season, getting every team to 72 locally televised games was needed in order to meet contract minimums. With the attendance revenue being uncertain, it’s not a bad idea to make try and save the TV deals.

That is not true. They are ending before the Olympics. I don't think it's because they want to give the players the chance to play, but because they don't want to compete with the Olympics for ratings. That would be an even bigger disaster than this year.
