It’s been on my list forever but it looks like I’ll see the movie first at this rate lol. Movie looks incredible though, although it seems like it’d be a story that couldn’t be told in one movie — am I wrong in that assumption?

There are several books, but assuming just the first (which is easily the best book) is the full story conveyed in the movie, I think it could be done in a 3 hr movie. But from the trailer, I can't tell the endpoint.
I don't know if they expect to be making more than one movie or break the first book up or anything - my guess is movie biz is always looking for some franchise for easy money so maybe it's a setup for that.
Gotcha. Thanks for the info Focus. And I agree about the franchising. Seems like they could easily pump out a trilogy as long as the first one does well; I wouldn’t expect it to have the same following as LOTR but it should have a big enough demand based on the books reputation to put a lot of butts in seats for this.
At the very least, this movie will be visually stunning; something all DV movies have been.
Afraid of same. I posted mainly because the look of it just seemed unimpressive to me, save one aerial scene above the swirling sand. Are you including the look as party of what you mean by 'netflix-tier'? I agree with that.
You got a young cast, set up for a multiyear franchise maybe. You got Pink Floyd to maybe bring in the parents. Instant formula for money. Actually, your description seems to match my feeling pretty good.
I hope I am wrong and that this trailer is a concession to the money folks and not representative of the movie because I usually find the director's movies pretty interesting.

I am not getting the visually stunning feeling. I did with the director's last movie, and other scenes he did in Sicario. Along with story, I really have liked the other movies I have seen from him. I hope you are right, not me.
Sadly this. Everything looked really flat and lifeless. But it's just one trailer.
Regardless of what you thought of the film, Deakins' cinematography pops immediately and the distinct locations give the world a 'bigness' before you even get to the theater:

Would this Deakins you speak of be Roger Deakins who you panned for for his work on 1917? _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Yes, the look, the efete eboy casting for Paul, the opening with a cheap kiss that traps the plot, Jason "death of cinema" Momoa and Dave "even wrestling acting was hard for me" Bautista as two of Herbert's great characters. The trailer looks like it was based on a book adapted from this version of the movie. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/
Tried reading the book a few months ago. I know it’s beloved but it wasn’t for me.
It's kind of overrated imo. I think the fact that it was the first operatic sci fi novel to go big time really elevates it on some subconscious level. _________________ KOBE
Don't ever think there will be a good + faithful Dune movie. Dune is great because of the crazy amount of "why" behind everything that happens. Movies are much more about the "What."
You can make a great movie loosely based on the book(s) or a really long mini-series trying to convey the "why" of the book that casual fans will find lacking in action.
Or, you can fail to do both and you get the original Dune movie where anyone that hasn't read the book just has the "What the heck?" look on their face for 3 hours.

I just have the apparently not popular opinion that, based on this trailer, it doesn't look great, as in the look of the thing. It seems faded or bland, like the color was washed out. Also, it didn't seem that intriguing to me.
But seriously - the long-term impact of the United States' inept pandemic response on Hollywood and American theater chains looks very, very bad. _________________ Under New Management
