I've been wearing a homemade mask and gloves when I go out for the last two weeks. When I'm at the grocery store, about 2/3 of the people shopping and all the workers are wearing masks. Most are wearing gloves too. When the government fails us, we have to be smarter than them and protect ourselves. I never bought the, "if you're not sick there's no reason to wear a mask" edict. Common sense tells you that *any* protection is better than *no* protection. If nothing else, it prevents you from inadvertently touching your *own* mouth and nose. |
I just figured out a very simple one that took literally 3 minutes, an old t-shirt and 2 hair bands and a hot glue gun. If you cut the sleeves off the shirt and cut the seam, it’s basically the size and shape you need. Then you just loop it through the bands, figure out how tight it needs to be and glue the edges. Then, a little 1 inch glue strip at the bottom tightens it under the chin and small dab at the top center secures it over the nose. Obviously not N95 filtration, but better than nothing.

good job -- I had bought a small box of N75 masks from HD for doing the lawn months ago -- I have a enough for the family. |

He probably bought back some of the masks DT sent them. Somebody had to do because the federal government clearly doesn't give a crap. |

Brady is a Trumper too. |
I think his wife was definitely not a fan of DT and made Tom go into "don't ask, don't tell mode." I think he knew him from a long time ago but did not openly support him the way Kraft and Belichick have done. Brady also didn't go to the last WH Superbowl ceremony. I followed both Brady's and Kobe's careers which started about the same time. It was a little hard to start hating Brady after following him from the beginning. But now he's gone and I don't have follow either him or the Pats. End of cycle. |
Wasn't aware of that. Giselle mandate? |
He didn't show up "at the last minute" then said afterward something like he had "family business." It was pretty obvious she put her foot down. |

Nice job. There are tons of no-sew variations for those of us without sewing machines. My sister-in-law just ordered a couple dozen bandanas. She's going to show me her way to make one that uses old cut-up tights (my niece's ballet tights) for the ear loops instead of hair bands. Her friends with sewing machines are busy making more professional ones for nurses and hospitals and sending them off.
I have to say the one bright spot in all this is people's ingenuity in figuring out ways to help one another. It's like a return to the real American spirit and fortitude. The bravery of the doctors, nurses and all those volunteering their time and energy blows me away. |

I ordered a fabric mask from Etsy that should be here this week. My wife made me one with some stuff around the house that we were willing to cut up but we didn’t have any elastic or rubber bands so it’s a pain to tie it on with the ribbon she used. The one I ordered for $10.50 has elastic and has the metal strip for the nose part so you can form it to your nose. |

Yes, great idea and since I'm just not into making one, I ordered one as well.

This was more or less known when it was passed. Only for corporations and stock owners was the relief time sensitive.
Still wonder if they made it universal rather than means tested (Social Security vs. IRS) if it would get out sooner. |

Coronavirus task force is expected to announce new guidelines that Americans wear masks or other protective facial cloth to prevent the spread of the virus (according to unnamed administration officials)
Quote: | Coronavirus task force is expected to announce new guidelines that Americans wear masks or other protective facial cloth to prevent the spread of the virus, according to three individuals familiar with those conversations, including two senior administration officials.
The decision to announce, first reported by Stat News, had been delayed, in part, by fears inside the White House over the optics of issuing new guidelines that directly contradicted those previously pushed out by the federal government, those same sources said. In internal deliberations, members of the administration’s coronavirus taskforce have worried that changing the messaging on masks could raise questions about whether the government made a mistake in its original guidelines, officials say. |
Quote: | Officials are also concerned that the new guidelines would end up worsening the supply problems for healthcare workers who are already running low on personal protective gear, including N95 respirators. As such, the administration's guidance is likely to encourage people to make their own masks at home, an official said.
On February 29, the country’s top doctor, Surgeon General Jerome Adams, posted a disclaimer on Twitter, asking Americans to stop buying masks. “They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus,” he said, adding that healthcare workers needed them to remain in the supply chain so they could more safely treat coronavirus patients. And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that Americans do not need to wear masks unless they are sick and coughing or if they are taking care of a person with coronavirus.
A barrage of recently published scientific studies say otherwise. And Trump’s coronavirus task force, including officials from the CDC, have for weeks been looking at some of those papers which say the coronavirus can be spread by individuals who do not show symptoms through liquid droplet transmission. |

I was debating picking up one for my wife and one for my 6 year old since I already ordered mine. But I’m the only one that goes out shopping. They do go on walks and bike rides with me, but there’s no one around so I don’t think they’d need a mask for that. I’m the designated store person though. |

To be fair I always was the designated store person. And the designated cook all meals person. But now I just don’t bring along my daughter to the store when she asks. |

Got my grocery order from Smart&Final today. I wiped everything with Lysol. I ordered more Lysol, there was none in stock. I got everything else.
I almost got off of the Heineken wagon, came real close to ordering some. I quit because I noticed when I take my exercise walk I got tired when I was drinking beer.
I had the shopper leave my bags at the door. I use rubber gloves to unpack and disinfected everything, washed the fruit in hot water and soap. After I unpack and disinfect I take the bags to the trash bin. I wash the gloves in hot water as though I'm washing my hands. Hope you guys are practicing social distancing. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

CNN discussing checks. If you have direct deposit you should be getting a check in 3 weeks. If you don't have direct there will be a site that will allow you to upload your information to get direct deposit. Mnuchin commits to sending out stimulus funds in 2 weeks. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Literally nothing this administration has done has exhibited the least bit of competence. If they say, oh yeah you can just upload your info, no biggie -- then you should assume: 1) they are lying or 2) it won't work or 3) no such system exists. |

I have direct deposit and I'm going to take a optimistic view. Pessimism garners nothing. It's difficult to listen to Trump even when he's reading. He always takes credit for the positive. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
