Three Lakers Grab Double-Doubles, but South Bay Falls at Home
Quote:
The South Bay Lakers saw three players record double-doubles, but ultimately fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 128-120, on Saturday night.
Travis Wear led the way for the Lakers (10-13) with a season-high 28 point and 12 rebounds. Brandon Sampson finished with a team-best 27 points to give the Vipers (8-18) the road victory.
Devontae Cacok sat out the G League South Bay Lakers' 123-106 loss to the Austin Spurs on Sunday due to a stress reaction in his left foot.
Los Angeles hasn't provided an official update on the severity of the issue, but Cacok's injury is one that often sidelines players for multiple weeks.
The two-way player has yet to make his NBA debut but has shined for the G League affiliate, averaging 18.6 points (on 65.9 percent shooting from the field), 12.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 24.3 minutes per game over 19 outings. His absence Sunday was his third in a row due to the injury.
With only eight available players, the South Bay Lakers fell to the Oklahoma City Blue, 149-140, on Tuesday night.
Talen Horton-Tucker scored 31 points (13-23 FG) to lead the Lakers (10-15) and Reggie Hearn moved to second place on the league’s all-time three-pointers made list.
The South Bay Lakers have found themselves in a slump, losing their last six consecutive games. As a result, the Lakers are now 20th in the league with a 10-15 record.
Wayne Selden appeared in 124 career NBA games (27 starts) for the Pelicans, Grizzlies and Bulls, averaging 7.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.1 minutes per game.
The Kansas alumnus scored in double figures in 35 games, including five games with 20+ and a career-high 31 points once.
In 67 career NBA G League games (55 starts), Jackson averaged 24.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three-point range. Jackson appeared in eight games (one start) for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2016-17 season, averaging 4.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 10.5 minutes per game.
Update:
Travis Wear has been removed from the active roster due to season-ending injury. The team will retain his NBA G League rights and he will continue his rehab with South Bay.
