I'd pick him up just to start against the Mavs if we see them. Unlike Mo or Luke, he stands a chance against Howard. |

I don't usually get in on these types of threads for loose change players but I would take Jones based on the fact that perimeter defense on this team is very suspect, and he would help in that area for sure. |

Me too.... lets get some proof in this thread before I get my hopes up more. I too have the soft spot for Eddie, since I was pissed when he was traded. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Quote: | Update: According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Eddie Jones is expecting to be waived by the Memphis Grizzlies, but he is staying tight-lipped about what else might be involved in the transaction if it were to happen. He explained, "I can't tell you much more than there's a possibility I could get waived. We'll figure out what I do after that."
Analysis: Jones wants to pull a C-Webb and join a contender. With Rudy Gay the future of the franchise in Memphis, the team has no reason to hang onto the aging Eddie Jones, who is costing them $15.68M during the last year of his current contract. His fantasy value will remain minimal until the team officially waives him and he signs with a new team. Either way, Rudy Gay's value stands to take a nice uptick if/when the team chooses to cut Eddie loose. Gay makes for an outstanding gamble in larger leagues on this speculation alone. |

I've always liked EJ as a player. He was hard working and is consistent on both sides of the court. I think he would be a great pick up, kick Shammond to the curve and lets get EJ a ring! He can play limited minutes and save his legs for the playoffs... |

Harp came to us after he was already a triangle master/3-time champ.
He came to us as a leader and a teacher of the offense.
Eddie would first have to learn the system. Kinda late in his career to first start doing that, don'tcha think??
Hey, I'd love to get Eddie back, for sentimental reasons, but I'm sure he'll go to Miami or Dallas or some other contender where he could learn a few plays and contribute right away. |
Harp won 3 rings in Chicago and the first year he wasn't a vet in the triangle. He was the new comer along with Rodman. Eddie has always played well without out the ball and he understands cutting, screening and balance on the offensive side. He also has been a sound defensive player through out his career. He is the type of vet we want and need for the amount of money it will cost. |
True - Harp's first year in Chi-town was a disaster, IIRC.
He just couldn't pick up the triangle.
Eventually, he got it, obviously, and became a great teacher of it - which was one of the reasons why Phil asked him to come to LA in the first place.
That's not Eddie Jones at all.
To me, Eddie would be more like a "B-Shaw," than a "Harp."
If we're thinking about bringing EJ in for MORE than just one year, then yeah, he might be worth it. Defense. Size. Homecoming. All that good stuff. He could end up contributing in a Shaw-like way. As that vet off the bench at both spots. Total "team-first" and unselfish.
But why would Eddie want to come here?
First learning the T this late in one's career is not the easist thing in the world to do. When Harp got to Chi, he was still a relatively young player. Post ACL, but still fairly young. That first year was really bad for him.
I'm not saying that would happen to Eddie, but this late in his career, would he be willing to take that risk? Wherever he goes, it'll most likely be his last team. Why would he want to spend most of the time trying to first learn the triangle this late in his career??
But it's not just learning it - it's also gaining PJ's confidence/trust. Just ask Jim Jackson, Mitch Richmond, Tracy Murray, etc. about that. Just because we bring someone in does not guarantee playing time. If Eddie doesn't know that, you can bet his agent certainly does.
To me, it just seems more likely that he'd go somewhere else, that's all I'm saying. I'd love to have him back, but I just don't see it happening. _________________ Everything. Changes. |

Eddie is going to Orlando as they BADLY need some perimeter athleticism. _________________ "Now we're so happy we do the dance of joy." |

I would take Eddie back in a heartbeat. I don't care if he never plays, it would be worth it just to see him in a Laker jersey again. Better than McKie or Williams wasting space. |

I remember eddie saying after he was traded to the grizz, that he might like to go back to the heat after his contract was up, for the chance to play for a ring back in miami. |

I love Eddie, he and Kobe were pals. Eddie aint as quick as he once was or athletic but still plays with heart. It'd be a great pickup and concession if we arent able to land a real pg through a trade. |

"Veteran guard Eddie Jones didn't officially play due to a coach's decision, but has agreed to a contract buyout with the team. The Griz could waive Jones as soon as today, and reportedly will sign former Washington guard Will Conroy to a 10-day contract. Conroy, who played for NBDL's Tulsa 66ers, told a Seattle paper Monday that he was headed for Memphis." Memphis Commercial Appeal
