Got to go with D12. The dude's athleticism was so crazy in the past he has to have some of it left. He's will still get rebounds and play decent defense.
Based on pure talent he is someone who can make this team better. Noah and MS won't do anything for us. Rather the FO take a risk on someone who might be good but is a pain than go with someone who has shown they have nothing left in the tank
How about set screens? For all that athleticism he's close to worthless on that front, which Lakers fans should remember.

He can set a screen, I've seen him do it. Besides ill take rebounds and defense over what the corpse of Noah can do.
I understand why people here dont like him but I want a championship and if you are being realistic D12 gets us closer to that

Dwight's block rate was 1.something last year, really bad, 3 times less than Zubac. 4-6 times less than all his previous years.. I'm not sure what kind of defender he is anymore, even if he's a bit better athletically than last year. And Noah was solid last year all around, athletically too, looked spry for himself
He’s got One thing going for him... he’s not Dwight Howard
He's a pick and pop, and catch and shoot big. Something I prefer out of the Center position.
We should be running 4 out- 1 in. That spacing will allow LBJ and Brow to dominate.
Looks for last 3 years has been about 36 to 37 percent from 3 and he is 6 10 250 pounds. Seems like he is a good fit but if no team has picked him up there must be something wrong with him? Is he slow or something?

Bad defender and rebounder for a Center. But with McGee on the roster. He can do the tradition Center stuff if we need it.
Along with shooting, Speights is a willing passer and a big body screener. I think he's the best fit.
Dwight and Gortat bring post scoring to the table (compared to McGee). But I don't see that as a priority. Rather have LBJ and Brow operating in the paint. Noah is the best passer out of the bunch and has a good motor on the glass. But there are high schoolers who can shoot better than him. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”
I don’t think the team offers him that money for 5 years if he is really that poisonous...
Dwight had only played for the Magic at that point. Since he left the Lakers he's played on 4 teams in 6 years and apparently none of them liked him.
Yeah the argument that "the Lakers almost made a gigantic mistake by paying Howard 6 years ago and that means he's a helluva guy" is a strange one. We don't need to guess or theorize on whether or not Dwight is toxic. In a league where everybody is trained to robotically say the same thing to avoid conflict there are multiple instances of execs, coaches, and teammates who simply can't hide their contempt for him. If Dwight were merely a case of a great defender who puts up double doubles this wouldn't be a conversation because he'd be a max player. Teams that had him wouldnt be desperately trying to dump him and contenders wouldn't be stressing over whether to offer him the minimum.
I don’t think he is a helluva guy. I was thinking the team should hold their noses and sign him because he is the best player and he would be much cheaper and easier to get rid of this time around.
But I’m looking at that list of players the team is working out and I’m having second thoughts. I think Mo Speights is interesting. Dwight should help the defense and rebounding but I’m afraid he would hurt the offense too much. With Speights the offense should run more smoothly and there should be more room for Lebron and AD. 12-15 minutes a game from him should be good enough.
There is one big concern I have about Dwight besides his attitude. He was injured again and if he has significantly declined from two years ago I wouldn’t want him.

He's by far the best of the candidates. We already have a rim runner/block shot specialist in McGee. He would provide a different look.
Speights should be getting more votes in this poll.

Is it fair really though to compare last year. He had a terrific year in Charlotte on an individual level. He clearly had a back issue and won’t be the elite player he once was,.. but that doesn’t mean he can’t be something helpful if he’s as healthy as he says.

I wonder if we'd do better on the buyout market again like we did with Chandler. Im not crazy about any of the options they've got at the moment. The one that does the least harm gets my vote. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Chandler got his buyout much earlier than usual. If the buyouts across the league happen in January and February, then the FO could get nervous having to wait that long.

Edit
Chandler was waived by Phoenix on November 4 and signed with the Lakers on November 6.

Boss move. Show me you are worth a spot on the team. Smart move Rob.
Exactly what I thought re: Rob. Don’t recall “workouts for pros” occurring before. Anyone know?
Regardless, it’s a great move, totally business. Show us what ya got. And that you deserve to be here.
Again, my props to a Rob. I hope people remember the little things he does like this that will hopefully bring some order to the F.O. and ultimately the franchise. Seems it wasn’t too long ago that the approach would have been more “seat-of-the-pants, shoot-from-the-hip”.
Whomever we choose to sign by the way we choose not to panic, unlike the trade deadline last year, I will accept and cheer on as a Laker. I been liking how the FO has been running after Magic left the FO.

I did not want to name names... but you nailed it.
Dwight instantly becomes the Lakers third best player. The role he should have accepted when he was here the first time.
Good signing if it happens.

Agreed.
I've always been of the thought that they need offense from the backup center because whoever backs up Davis will eventually get big time starter minutes when Davis sits for his requisite 15-20 gamed a year, so the team needs a guy who can, at the very least, replace half of Davis' offensive input as a legit offensive option when Davis is in street clothes. It's why I wanted Gibson to be Davis' backup, why I was elated to see they signed Cousins, and why Speights is clearly the best option in the role I see for the backup center. _________________ A creative scorer, a wing defender, and a shooter.
Is this locker room ready for a gay player? That burden is hard enough as-is, but when you factor in that the gay player is Dwight Howard aka "The Clown", that bridge will be damn-near impossible to cross.
Why is noone mentioning that Howard is a natural distraction, bit with the rumors swirling around him, it is impossible to insert him into any NBA locker room. He isn't savvy or bright enough to deal with these rumors.
He's too much of a distraction. You don't think every player in the league knows about his rectal issues? His personality before the rumors made him a questionable teammate. After the rumors and rectal surgery, he's done.
A whispering locker room is a toxic locker room, so Howard shouldn't be a viable option at all. _________________ A creative scorer, a wing defender, and a shooter.
