The team is gearing up for the playoffs by trying to see who is the best fourth starter and who might be better in the bully. It might turn out to be the same person and it might turn out to be none of the above. May has relieved in the past so he was a logical candidate to at least preview as a reliever. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

With what Ryu's doing this year, Kersh is really flying under the radar, if that's even possible.
22 starts, all at least 6 IP.
Today, 3 ER in 6 IP was his second-worst start of the season. |

Yeah, and he has the second-best run support in the NL this year, behind Max Fried. Granted, he has been legitimately really good, but I bring that up because I have to hear Charley Steiner tell me almost every Kershaw start that "when he gets 4 runs of support, he's never lost."
You know, in the regular season.
Because, you know, he couldn't get out of the 5th inning in Game 5 of a tied 2-2 World Series with 7 runs of support. Not that I think about that ever, though. |

is anyone else worrying about this home run barrage the team is on right now? i mean it's nice and all, but i don't want the hitters to get into bad habits of swinging for the fences every at bat. overall this team has done a lot better than years past in terms of being patient at the plate and putting up good at bats. i don't want the old bad habit creep back in just in time for the playoffs. |

I hate what the game has become but you gotta play the game as it (d)evolves.
And yes, the good pitchers you find in the playoffs don't "find" the center of the plate as often. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Based on where we are in the season now,
What do you think will happen in the post season this time?
I'm predicting vs. Astros again (assuming we make the WS again) _________________ Indianapolis Colts

This team is so friggin good. It's going to break my heart if they lose in the playoffs because they're undermanned in the pen. |

The Dodgers overall pitching is better than anyone's, which shouldn't be lost in the discussion, and only St. Louis in the NL and Houston in the AL, if the AL comes down to Houston or NY, have a better reliever's ERA.
It should come down to two VERY good teams, but since no team has 25 all-stars, every team will be weaker in some area than their opponent, and it will, as always, come down to the breaks, the calls, the inch here or there, and who gets hot or under-performs. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

We've hit Greinke pretty well and Verlander has given up more homers than any starter this year, so I feel like revenge is gonna happen if we face Houston. |

Kershaw still owe us a WS title. that game 5 loss at Houston was brutal, a 4 run lead and then a 3 run lead all pissed away by Kershaw. sorry i just can't get past that until one day he gets rid of his choker reputation. |

I'm a huge fan of Kersh, but yeah, that was particularly brutal, and I'll never forget it as well. Still, imagine how he felt. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

I agree. I think we get 'em this year if we meet. Just need to make sure if any of our pitchers are tipping their pitches to nip it in the bud. _________________ KOBE |

What exactly is the expectation, that he's going to gain another 5 miles on his fastball with a slight adjustment from Honeycutt? He's done. |

A closer needs a go to pitch ... Kenley lost his velocity for a couple of years now... same with a kershaw but at least kershaw is evolving into more of a finesse pitcher...a closer can’t finesse |

I take it as a positive every time he has a bad appearance. Just reinforces the notion that he's now just another major league reliever, instead of the dominant force he once was. They can say whatever they want, but Joe Kelly right now has to be the guy if it's a game for your life. And they won't have that until the postseason. |

Actually, I think they can. Huston Street did it for a few years and was highly effective, until injury issues dropped his fastball to about 88 and cost him the bite on his slider, and then he had nothing even just trying to throw junk up there. Doug Jones used to get guys out with a lot of changeups and his below-average fastball could work because of that. Obviously, you'd prefer to have a closer with filthy stuff, but if you can at least mess up the timing of the hitter, it can work. But if Kenley is going to mostly rely on one pitch that isn't that good anymore, yeah, he's just asking to get hit hard way too often now. Especially with how these baseballs are wound up now.
Look at Rich Hill. Dude throws 90-91 when healthy and his fastball looks about 100 to the hitter because of how good his curveball is, and because the hitter has no idea which pitch is coming in any given count. With Jansen, they pretty much know 80-90% of the time a low-90's cutter is coming, and a cutter that doesn't cut much. We're seeing the results of that this year. His only chance, at this point, would be if he were willing to throw either pitch in any count. He's reluctant to do that, so, yeah, he's going to be highly susceptible to getting hit hard. |
