Your ongoing disdain for The Assassination of Jesse James is duly noted.
I'm also coming around on Bone Tomahawk as a great Western, as well. |
Not that it's a great western, but there's a French flick called Blueberry starring Vincent Cassel that's worthy of a viewing imo. It's based on the French comic series of the 60s that featured the artwork of the great Jean Giraud (Mœbius). I recently bumped into this movie thinking it would be a dope live action adaptation of the original comic, but the film actually veers into its own thing. It's definitely a flawed picture, however it is one of the more introspective, soul searching and spiritually challenging movies I've seen in some time. I'd recommend it to anyone that fancies a different kind of western. It's a bit of a slow burn and it consciously avoids many of the standard western tropes, but in the end it pays off. |
Well, hell, that sounds intriguing! Did you stream it somewhere? _________________ Under New Management |

A buddy lent me the dvd, but I assume it should be on some of the platforms. |

Anyone going to check out The Nightingale? I've been hearing a lot of excitement regarding its release and I see that Alamo Drafthouse is showing it. Might have to go check it out this week. |

Yes! One of the films I'm most excited to see in the second half of the year. _________________ Under New Management |

Magic Johnson's top 60 favorite movies. |
Green Book and Shaft(2019) over the original are sins, but I can (bleep) with this list. The replies to his tweet are - as always - truly special. _________________ Under New Management |

The Peanut Butter Falcon also comes out this weekend. I'm gonna have to make a 40 minute drive to see it but I think it may be worth it.
Also looking forward to Honeyboy. I think this is gonna be a big year for Shia where he gets some award consideration. |

I saw Apocalypse Now Final Cut in theaters yesterday. It was my first time viewing it (one of those movies I just don't think I'd get into if I were to watch at home) and it lived up to the hype.
A lot of complaints about the plantation scene but I didn't mind it except for it was hard to understand everyone with their thick accents and no subtitles. Robert Duval absolutely owned the movie for the 15 minutes he was in it. |

I like the plantation sequence. It's probably best they didn't include it in the theatrical release but it's nice to have when you're in the mood for the scenic route of Apocalypse Now. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

I think this has already been shared but just in case it hasn't: The Matrix is re-releasing in theaters next week in AMC Dolby.
Additionally Regal theaters are doing a Tarantino re-release starting next weekend showing Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 & 2 (not sure if any others). |

If it follows the trajectory in terms of story quality of the first 3, this will just be a collection of words and actions thrown into a bag, pulled out at random and slapped on a script. |

A week or 2 ago, I rewatched the Matrix 2 fight scene where they break out the keymaker and then have the huge freeway scene. Amazing action with minimal CGI. Loved it. Don't see that much nowadays.
I promptly shut it off afterwards. The architect dialogue scene makes me cringe just thinking about it. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I have no doubt that the vfx will be insane. The talking stuff? Notsomuch. The wachowskis are pretty awesome visually. The rest is written in crayon and fridge magnets. |

Me: reboot culture, fan service nostalgia, and neverending media franchises are strangling the art out of filmmaking.
Also me: take my money, Lana Wachowski, I am a hypocrite. _________________ Under New Management

The Hollywood Reporter article detailing the sisters' falling out will no doubt be epic. _________________ Under New Management |

Just saw that the Breaking Bad movie has completed production. This has been totally under the radar until now. _________________ Not a legend |

To be fair, the spin-off show is on par with BB. I trust that this is something Gilligan wanted to do and not something he did just because he could and wanted to cash in. |
