Yep, I get it. I think what changes here is that Lebron and AD will have his ear and a say. Wizards were/are in disarray. Not defending the thought of Dwight here but it is a different set of circumstances. |
Like Melo, I don’t think Howard has ever been able to understand being a role player in the NBA and do what is asked...
Found this on twitter
Quote: | Dwight Howard got
- MDA fired, Lakers
- Kevin McHale fired, Rockets
- Mike Bud lost his GM job, Hawks
- Rich Cho fired, Clifford left, Hornets
- Ernie Grunfeld fired, Wizards
If the Lakers sign him
Who loses his job first? Pelinka or Vogel? |

Some people are just incapable of change.
Edit: imo he isn’t the only reason for people getting fired, but trouble follows Dwight. We can’t afford any issues tbh. |
You are probably right.
Howards history is long with trouble and discord. |
Honestly, I think those days are gone. Why would we care if he acts up? You just cut him. He got away with some of those things because he was Superman in his prime. I think him coming out saying his ego is dead was the truth. Unless he's not too bright, he should know this is his last chance. The Wizards GM said trading him was the fasting thing he did. That must have hurt. This guy would be one of the dumbest people in history if he's nothing short of a model citizen here. |
But he IS one of the dumbest people in history

He was still a very good player when he was having his attitude problems. Thinking he was more important than what he was. He’s a role player now which he understands. No major minutes...probably not a starter...just play D, rebound, catch lobs, clog the lane. |

Oof these numbers

Basically, Dwight is only not horrible at one thing: defensive rebounding.
Would a billion percent rather sign Noah or even roll the dice with Marquess Chriss, who's at least an actually decent shooter. Maybe between Handy, Vogel and Hollins, he can learn how to defend and finish around the basket. |

Agree 100%. I am ok with a player redeeming himself. Maybe, like Boogie, he has something to prove. I doubt he would consider coming back if he was worried about fan reaction. It could be what he wants to finish his career. |
Like Boogie he is damaged goods |
Any center who is available at this point is damaged goods.
All the candidates have injury histories, personality issues, are old, are really power forwards, or otherwise have some concerning issue..
There isn't a no-brainer choice. It's just which roll of the dice you favor. |
Exactly. The selection is limited when dumpster diving. |
The problem is that we didn’t need to put ourselves in this situation. We could have planned better in the offseason. There are reasons that Cousins only had one other team interested in him, the likelihood that he would be injured and miss games was about 100%. We knew that AD didn’t want to play big minutes at center. Signing another backup big was necessary but we failed to do so. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

The reward was worth the risk...I’m not going to blame them for that. But I agree that instead of Dudley, Daniels or Cook...they should have brought in another legit big...WCS would have been nice or someone similar that can handle big bodies. |

You're never going to be able to have a backup plan for every contingency. I don't think there was some great vet-minimum center we passed on. I mean, who exactly do you think we should have gone for to be the third-string center? |

As someone mentioned WCS was available. You didn’t need to be Kreskin to think that Cousins might go down. That is who he is now. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Looks like Amir Johnson is the least worst option. I've never been a fan of his. But the numbers don't lie. By far the best perimeter shooter, 2nd best playmaker, 2nd best perimeter defender out of the Dwight, Nene, Noah, Gortat bunch.
Not a fan of Faried at any position. Let alone Center. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Would you trade Kuzma for Shai + pick?
PG.Shai / Rondo
SG.Green / Bradley
SF.LeBron / KCP
PF.Davis / Dudley
C.Mcgee / Dwight / Cousins
I think our team gets worse |

That's not true.

Dwight Howard’s career PIPM and @The_BBall_Index talent grade data looks solid other than last season’s tiny sample.
On court, in a vacuum (ignore fit), he’s perhaps the best of bad options for LA.
I’ll leave analyzing off-court risks and deciding if he’s worth it to the team.
[...]
Of the available options (through the lens of comparing to other bigs):
- Howard is the only real plus interior defender
- Johnson and Faried are the only ones with any floor spacing & popping ability (albeit not very strong)
- Noah can playmake & Johnson can to a lesser degree
- Howard is the only good finisher
- Howard & Faried only good rollers
- Howard is the only + rebounder on both O&D
Off-court aside, Howard checks the most boxes. He’s the guy unless you’re going for spacing. |

Report: Lakers have interest in Joakim Noah
Quote: | LeBron James and Anthony Davis need some help moving forward if they want to go deep into the Western Conference playoffs, and having only JaVale McGee playing at the center position won’t help them do that. They need to add somebody, but Howard or Noah being the answer to that is a scary proposition for a team with championship hopes. |

I think the issue isn't necessarily Dwight's on-court skills, which he checks more boxes than the other leftovers. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I know it’s slim pickings and the known options are Howard, Noah, Mejri and Faried.
But the underlying point is, what is the point of having scouts if you are just going to choose “name” players? Why not identify players that don’t have the notoriety but can actually contribute in that specific role?
This is not just for center situation, but general organizational philosophy. Instead of the Rondos, KCPs, etc. get guys who can actually fill the desired roles. It can be someone no one has ever heard of looking for an opportunity.
You can call teams up and see if X player is available, doesn’t have to be an Iggy or a young guy that everyone knows/wants... |

Good point. Pelinka is also relying on Bron and AD to weigh in on who they want. I’m surprised Jamal Crawford isn’t out starting SG.. at least we got Rondo |
