Lance >>> KCP and would be way cheaper
we already gave KCP enough Klutch hookups already... he couldnt get half that much with any other team
Lance is not better than KCP at all.
KCP will come of the bench with defense and shooting
lance will come out with his air guitarr.
Lance played better defense and shot better than KCP last year... and that was all while playing in less favorable lineups _________________ (bleep) Kawhi
It’s complicated but I thought the point is that his salary doesn’t count against the cap which is why he is getting paid. _________________ "At the end of the day, you are what your record says that you are." --Mitch Kupchak
What are the chances Pope pulls a Collison and retires? That would make my year. There's a reason why a 26 year old with career double digit scoring and entering his prime received 0 offers.
If next season KCP plays down to par, as is his history, he should write AD a check for $4M. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

Did we have to use cap space to re-sign him? Shouldn't we be able to use up our cap space and then re-sign him using his Early Bird rights? _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

Early Bird rights is correct. So who cares if he costs the Buss' money. It's not hurting the team cap to sign him. _________________ "At the end of the day, you are what your record says that you are." --Mitch Kupchak
Honestly $16M for 2 yrs isn't horrible for him, depends on whether he cuts down on his (bleep) shot attempts
His game seems to be about taking shots and being an aggressive shooting guard as well as a defensive player. A few years ago he was a valued commodity in the league. Seems he just hasn't found consistency. I think he was probably one of the guys the FO and Luke butt heads on.
The bright side is that he is only 26. You want to have some young guys with athleticism and energy around Lebron/AD/Green. Cousins is pretty slow. We traded a lot of our youth. So with Kyle Kuzma and KCP, we have two guys that shoot a lot, but are athletic, have a motor and will bring much needed energy around Lebron/AD/Green. KCP can defend some smaller guards, and allow Lebron to run point. I would have preferred a point guard over KCP. but I don't think he will turn out to be a bad player for us, especially with the Vogel coaching change. KCP has defensive talent, and with a squad built around 2 superstars, you need these young athletic aggressive players to come in off the bench. Kuzma and KCP will be huge in terms of whether we will be a deep team that can rely on our bench or not.

Good point. At this point, I have no problem with the signing. Let's play ball!

It is complicated but it's not quite like that. Yes we can use up all our cap space first then go over the cap to resign him. Doesn't mean his salary doesn't count against us. For example next year when a few of those one year deals come off the books it's not like that means we get capspace since we'll still have KCP on the books.
But the reason he gets paid is we are paying for the sins of Rich Paul. As a novice agent at the time he told KCP to turn down a 5 year $80m extension from Detroit. So when free agency hit and no one wanted him, suddenly KCP had no money because they were greedy.
So Rich came to the Lakers and said if you take care of him then I'll bring you LeBron. So that's why the Lakers keep paying him because they are trying to make Rich happy so LeBron is happy. There Lakers paid out $18m then $12m and now $16m so KCP has recouped a little more than half of the $80m Rich Paul had him turn down which at this point is more than enough for that scrub.
We all saw what happens when you screw over an agent as the Lakers did to mintz by us trading away DLo. He wouldn't let PG even take a sit down meeting with the Lakers and now look at the ramifications of that one. So it's all about keeping the agents happy
