So, the debates are over so let's see what else is on . . . what's this, the CMA's . . . let's take a quick listen . . .
That is how I discovered what CW fans have probably known for some time, that Kacy Musgraves is not just a CW performer, and her song, Slow Burn (as done on Colbert here) is a great example of the Americana genre. What a delicious arrangement, and that Slow Buuurn--erern in the chorus is hauntingly additive. Think of Ray Lamontagne or Gregory Alan Isakov. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

She's definitely an artist who transcends the genre and I agree, her needle really moves more to Americana.
So I'm sure the CMA's featured this prominently:

This is, what, 12 weeks at number one and I first heard it maybe 2 weeks ago upon hearing about the autistic Boy who doens't talk but sings the song.
Gotta admit, it is darn catchy.
And it's been pretty controversial with Billboard pulling it on and off the Country charts. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Oh they calling it Americana now? Dave Alvin, Chris Gaffney (RIP) and their gang has been calling it Roots Music for years. But I have to admit they weren't doing the emo style singing. I'd much rather someone like Rosie Flores was getting some airplay.
But hey that's just me.

It may not be a profound one, but I think there is a distinct enough difference between Roots Music and what some of the artists like Jason Isbell et al have been doing in recent years. I think it's worth breaking that sound into it's own niche. But I grant, there is a great deal of similarity and crossover between the artists in that section of the musical spectrum. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Confusing? Shore 'nuff. Here is something I found to that point.

Holly f'n (bleep). Dave Alvin? Hell yeah. Dude is really, really-really, good.
Thanks! _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

I agree he is the King of California. Seriously though he is one of the most slow played California artists. The depth and breadth of his work from the Blasters to X to his collaborations with Gaffney and his own solo career are really IMO overlooked. I think he's a highly underrated guitarist as well. Good thing is he still plays live a lot. And in intimate venues. One thing I miss living abroad is seeing cats like him perform.

I listened to him for a couple hours and didn't hear anything that was not, at, least, good, and often, quite good to exceptional. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

Been a fan of his since the Blasters days after they opened for Queen at the Forum. I was also a big X and Knitters fan back in the day. Definitely an icon of California rockers. And I agree, his guitar skills are definitely underrated. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Hard to adjust to this version after all the airplay of Johnny Rivers' version several years prior. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"
This stuff is killer, put it on in the background as you cruise the internet...
(It's called a Phin Guitar)
This took me on a journey thank you.

Really dig this band. They're sort of new-ish, albeit composed of older musicians. Their debut came out around 2013, and I still think it's their best work. This is I guess the single for their upcoming and third record, which I'm highly anticipating.

Check out my old band RT N' The 44s if you like the Rootsy stuff. I miss playing with those guys even though I am a Funk/Soul enthusiast.
