As for the prepomdemce of injuries, it isnt a sports thing, it's s generational thing. Awhile back I read an article stating that army basic was setting a ton of injuries in 18 and 19 year olds that you would commonly associate with people in their 40s. The major drop in testosterone levels between generations almost certainly plays a factor as well. Despite all this technical knowledge of diet and exercise today it can't stop factors (only hope to stem) that are affecting all people. |
The bolded is especially interesting and something I have not heard before. Can you elaborate? |
I'm not a doctor, and I'm just speculating, but maybe it has to do with:
1. Modern conveniences, like computers/technology that have eliminated certain physical actions needed to get work done (like handwriting, punching cards, etc.)
2. People have to work longer hours or study longer hours to get into college because of more competitiveness both in the workplace and to get into good colleges, and people don't get enough sleep these days.
3. I've read that people get a full hour less sleep than they did a generation ago, and that alone will really drop your testosterone levels and ruin your health in other ways. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

They found that sperm counts have dropped worldwide and will continue to drop: https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2018/10/sperm-counts-continue-to-fall/572794/
Possible reason is the prevalence of phytoestrogens in our diet, hygiene products, environment, etc. Pollution and stress are also variables contributing to this. The modern world (not to mention social media) is pretty toxic, and we must work to preserve it:
Quote: | Halpern went on to explain that many chemical compounds that are used to make plastic hard (like Bisphenol A, or BPA) or soft (like phthalates) can mimic estrogen in the bloodstream—so men with lots of phthalates in their system are likely to produce less testosterone and fewer sperm |

There's a lot of data supporting what you said about youth injuries. There is pressure for youth to play sports all year round. Kids as young as 15-19 are developing chronic, degenerative conditions, and the ones that make it professionally will not last to age 30 in our current environment. Guys like Zo, BI, Hart are just victims of this epidemic of youth sports injuries. Two guys projected in the top 5 in this year's draft already had their knees operated on. It will get worse before it gets better IMO.
Here's a good read on the rise of injuries in youth: https://homegymr.com/youth-sports-injuries-growing-epidemic/ |

What a shame because it could have been prevented. He is young however, chances of him ever being the same are not good. |

Really? Because that's not the approach the team took with Klay. |
Klay was still limping in the game he returned - 2nd half of it. |
The point of fact is they held him out, with a very different injury. The injury that KD had could ALWAYS lead to an Achilles injury. Always. Anyone who didn't tell him that was committing malpractice. |

Sad for KD but after Kobe and Cousin, no way I will offer max money. Golden State probably owe him to give max.
Wish him full speedy successful recovery. |

Only if he gets 1 practice in. His practice is going to be making paper balls and shooting them into the waste basket. |

The Pels should trade us AD for #4 and a future 1st, then sign KD. Let Zion and #4 run the show while they tank 1 more year with KD on the mend. When KD comes back in fall 2020 he'd be surrounded by some serious talent.

They wouldn't use the term "ruptured" to describe a partially torn achilles. |

GSW fans patting themselves on the back after this tweet:

Kevin Durant may never be the same again, Achilles specialist says
Quote: | "I don't know the level of damage he had from his initial injury but you're not talking about getting back to normal walking or shooting, you're talking about explosive-type exercise. That to me is a 90-day recovery — 30 days is still during a major inflammatory process, and 30 days is still during the very early healing process. That calf muscle healing, tendon healing is minimum about 60 days.
"I don't know who brought him back but I think it was way too early. When you're dealing with a player the caliber of Kevin Durant, with the longevity of his career being at stake, and the fact you're possibly going to cause an MVP-level player to not be able to play, this is a disaster." |
Quote: | And Dr. Baravarian does not expect Durant to be a major factor next season, even if he makes a speedy recovery.
"The surgical process is somewhere around four weeks of purely casted, no weight-bearing, then it's probably another four weeks in a boot with minor physiotherapy," he added.
"At around three months you start to do light exercise such as biking, mild muscle strengthening, and then you've got to let that Achilles have a chance to become super solid because you don't want it to stretch out. |

Golden State is complicit in this, absolutely, but ultimately, I blame Kevin Durant's father.
If he had been raised by an upright man and had been schooled on how to be a secure man who follows no one but God, he would have had the mental fortitude to be his own master, to follow the force within and do what is best for him and his family.
Noone may truly understand this post, but this situation, to me, is a byproduct of men not leading their house holds, not governing over their sons and daughters, and not knowing the importance of males imparting wisdom on their children.
If Durant had had an upright man in his life, he would not have been so insecure and eager to please the world at the expense of himself.
In spite of what the world may say, children need masculine energy.
Kevin Durant is no different. If he had the proper support mechanisms within his family (an upright, upstanding father), he would've never put himself in the position to alter his life in this way.
Fatherhood is criminally underrated, especially within African-American circles.
If you want to change the world, don't protest ... go home and raise your children to be mighty rulers. Unfortunately, Kevin Durant was raised to merely serve, and he paid the price. |

He was never going to have Achilles surgery in Canada.
(But yes, the quick surgery for Kobe was to help reduce scar tissue, per reports at the time). |
So ignoring that Canada, and something like 3 dozen other countries (all of which have socialized medicine) typically rank higher than the US in just about all measures of health care, lets not pretend like someone in Canada who is worthy over $100 million is going to use government health care for something critical. He wasn't going to have surgery in Toronto because he is a short flight from some of the best surgeons in the US, with whom he and his network are familiar. I am sure there are plenty of capable sports surgeons in Toronto who could do a fine job at a moment's notice for an individual of Durant's net worth. But given that the rumors were that he was considering moving to NY, he probably has referrals there, and he has a home there already, so why not take the short flight, and recuperate in his condo there? The flight back to California is much longer. So this is all completely immaterial to socialized medicine and has everything to do with convenience and familiarity. |
Nonetheless, at the end of the day, the best surgeons in the world tend to be in the U.S.
Kobe stayed in LA, because he was home and had access to the best surgeons.
Durant went to New York so he could . . . access the best surgeons.
We could debate for ages (and I won't, because it's futile) why the best surgeons tend to be in America. (Not all, but many). |

Durant on his relationship with Westbrook:
"Me and Russell grew up together. I was in the phase of finding out who I was outside of basketball. He already knew who he was. He already had a stable life. He had stable parents, a girlfriend through college. I didn’t have none of that stuff. I’m trying to find out who I am, which I didn’t know, which is not a bad thing. He knew who he was. So obviously we’re going to grow toward this way (splits arms). It’s not a bad thing. It’s not at all. We still hung out. We’re boys. My interest went this way, his went that way. He got married, I didn’t. He hung with his wife. What you want me to do? I love Russ. I don’t care what nobody say. I don’t care what he say or what the fans say. Like, this is a tough time right now in our relationship. But I love Russ. I love his family. They all know that. I never did anything morally wrong. I never back-stabbed him in real life, never did anything behind his back, never told anyone anything about his character. Never did any of that. I just left teams. I just switched teams. Everyone on the outside is looking at it as, ‘Oh, you must not have liked him.’ Hell no. C’mon man. Nobody understand that part. I’m trying to find out who I am. He knew who he was. He knew what he wanted to do. He got married young. He met his girlfriend in college. I didn’t have none of that. I didn’t have two parents in a home with me. I’m still trying to search and find out who I am. We end up going this way (splits arms again) as far as off-the-court personality wise. And that’s not a bad thing.”
Fellas, raise your sons. |

Was he wearing Pink NEON shoes?
These NEON NEON NEON shoes need banned
Bet they wear that (bleep) to distract the vision of other players.. It is difficult to avert your eyes from NEON anything..
Get well Durant but don't put that NEON (bleep) on your feet in a Pro game ever again.. TIA! |
