I'm of the mindset that it's more difficult to obtain higher caliber players than a supporting cast.
What really hurt the team's depth is not being able to have a full MLE (as opposed to having a room exception). With a full MLE, could get much better supporting players. |
NYk couldn't do it when they traded for Carmelo Anthony.
Pelicans couldn't do it around AD/Jrue. They added Cousins and it didn't work. |
I don't think Pels trio of AD/Jrue/Boogie had as much synergy as AD/LBJ/Butler.
I think the true championship window is in 2020 with that team when we have a full MLE and hopefully another 1st rounder. |
This is why I want to build around BI. Is there really such a thing as a 1 year championship window on a team that mostly doesn't have playoff experience? I don't believe in it.
The lost factor in here is LeBron's age. |
2008 Celtics. 2011 Miami Heat |

So we go from Kawahi all the way down to Jimmy Butler? I guess I'm OK with it as long as they can make a trade for AD. If it's just Lebron and Jimmy Butler that would be a huge letdown. At least we know KCP is out if we sign him. |

Zo/Caruso
Butler/Hart
LeBron/Carter
Millsap/Kuz
Turner/Wagner
How good would this team be next year barring injuries? |
That’s an over pay for Turner |
What about if we also got their 1st round pick? |
Doesn't work. LAL can't sign Butler since Turner (according to Basketball Reference Payroll) already signed an extension starting next year at $18mil. Severely cuts the caproom. |
We can’t sign Butler and then trade for Turner? |
No. |
Yes we can. Sign Butler with cap room (4th pick caphold = 7.2M)
Sign the 4th pick 120% over baseline =8.4M
Ingram + 4th pick + filler eg. Bonga is within the band that can accept an 18M salary back |
The details of *when* that pick is included really matters.
But I still doubt INdiana does it. They love Myles. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Not that i am advocating this trade. I am just answering the question if we can do it. Technically we can. Although I am not sure our FO can figure stuff like this out. _________________ “God knew they couldn’t be on this Earth without each other. I've wanted him for years. But I think Philly offers him the max and he stays. He meshes too well there. Fans love him and teammates respect him. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

If Tobias Harris could accept $5mil less than full max, I'd pick him up and add depth with the remaining $5mil. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Hmm, my 76ers friends are not confident. Seems like there's a bit of "too many chefs in the kitchen" feel there. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

The irony would be playing on a heavily chef-staffed LBJ/AD team too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

AD would be at peak level
Butler still prime
Bron is post prime but still better than anyone on the 08 Celtics imo |

As far as non-all star free agents go. T. Harris and Mike Scott are near the top of my list. Both can spread the floor and do some of the things Love did alongside LBJ. Neither are as good of rebounders as Love. But both are probably better defenders. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

IMO Butler is a fall back option in case Irving or Kawhi don’t come, so if we can’t get Kyrie or Kawhi then it is important that Butler already has a commitment to sign with the Lakers. |

Lebron-Wagner
Ingram-Butler
Butler-Hart
Ball-Stephenson-Bonga
Trade Kuzma and #4 for an impact big. |

Seems like Kawhi is staying in Toronto and for good reason. Siakim is a stud, OG is is good young piece, they've got good role players and Marc, Danny, and Kyle Lowry to just enough to support Kawhi and Paskal. If they can make a couple good bargain signings, they're set for the next 3 years barring health problems.
Kyrie or Butler is totally debatable and while in a vacuum I'd take Kyrie, he does have injury concerns and it's an awkward fit. Butler is a little more seamless a fit if LeBron is willing to play PF.
Dedmon | Taj (?)
Lebron | Kuzma
Ingram | Ariza (?)
Butler | Hart
Lonzo | Garland
That team could win it all if the kids grow and everyone is healthy come playoffs. |

I haven't heard any discontent from PHI players about Butler. JJ Reddick on his podcast sounded like he meshed well with the team there. Butler and Simmons had their little headband defense thing. Embiid talked about how much Jimmy supported him and encouraged him even when he was struggling. And Brett Brown's biggest criticism of him was that he took too much of a back seat at times this year just trying to fit in and not step on anybody's toes.
And Philly kinda needs him until Simmons develops a jumpshot.
As a Laker fan I would take him in a heartbeat. I prefer him to Kyrie and Klay. That's how much I like him. But I Elton Brand locks him up with the max. He can make more there than here. And the whole reason why things blew up in Minny was because Jimmy wanted his $. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

I hope the Lakers do better than Butler. He's not a game changer, in my opinion. Seriously overrated on this forum. |

Nah, if you actually watched Philly's playoff games this year you would know he's a huge game changer on both ends. He not only passes the eye test as a game changer but the analytics also support Bulter as a top 12 player in the league |

My 76ers friends think there is a clear Simmons v. Embiid thing going on and Jimmy is caught in the middle of it. Not sure how eager the 76ers are to give him a 5 year max deal, and that 5th year is going to be a bear since they would possibly max Simmons and Harris also (on top of Embiid who would get a supermax once he's eligible). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Mitch got torched when he was here for playing by the rules. For not knowing ANYTHING about free agents desired locations before free agency opened.
If Rob doesn't know who wants to come here or not before free agency starts. And he goes to Kyrie or Butler after already striking out somewhere else. Those two are so prideful. It's gonna make signing them that much more difficult. Both guys will want to feel like they were Plan A for wherever they go. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

This was literally a quote from an Athletic article that came out a day ago.
Quote: | “We have a lot to work on, me and him,” Embiid said. “Like I said, I’m excited about all the work I’m going to put in this summer. He should be, too, because he has a lot of potential and he can do so much more, and I’m going to be right there and support him through anything, through everything. That’s my brother.” |
https://theathletic.com/1009006/2019/06/04/time-to-commit-how-ben-simmons-potential-extension-affects-the-sixers-moving-forward/
But hypothetically, if there is a Simmons v. Embiid thing. I think that's another reason to keep Butler. Since he pairs well with either player. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

So you need someone to be a snake and tell both guys simultaneously that they are the #1 target?

I’ll still pass I like Turner but not for Ingram. You’d be basically trading a potential allstar for a skill set we can find on the free agency market on minimum deals _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins
