By a mom and pop shop, meaning Jeanie is hiring friends and family as opposed to the best person for the job. Look at all of Jeanie's hires:
Rob Pelinka - Former agent of Kobe Bryant
Magic Johnson - Former Lakers player, former coach
Luke Walton - Former Lakers player, associated with Phil Jackson
Linda Rambis - VP, wife of Kurt Rambis
Kurt Rambis - former Lakers player
Brian Shaw - Former Lakers player
Mark Madsen - Former Lakers player
Ryan West - Jerry West son
Jesse Buss - Jerry Buss son
Who am I missing? And BTW there are talks of hiring Kobe and Lue to replace Magic and Luke? More former Lakers. Can we just hire people that have no affiliation with the Lakers or Lebron?

It depends on whether you consider it nepotism or loyalty. I've always admired how the Lakers are one of the few NBA franchises with so many former players working for it. It shows they care about players after their careers are over.
I agree with ukuga that some Buss kids didn't deserve their appointments but Jeanie's supporters have always pointed out the years she spent on the business side before becoming President of the team. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant
Jeanie is the worst owner... even worse than Dolan. At least Dolan has been sucking for decades and doesn't try to pretend to care. Everything has gone to dog sh on her watch

The best hope is that Rob gets MeToo'd in this upcoming damaging article that's being bandied about, and Jeanie is left with virtually no choice but to open up the job search. I know some people would say Ryan West would be the obvious choice then, but I believe he's under Jessie in the current power structure. It's hard for me to envision him leapfrogging someone basically his own age and his superior.

There's been a lot of speculation about an ESPN piece that will expose misconduct and shady dealings by Magic and Pelinka. Bill Oram made the point that this is a touchy subject since ESPN and the NBA are partners, and it seems like the NBA is trying to squash it (successfully so far). Allegedly this piece was the result of a months long investigative piece. Now it's just a question of when/if it gets published.

What did Rob do to get MeToo?
The "mistreatment" remains unspecified, but I don't think it's it's too much of a leap given the kind of mistreatment that's most topical in reporting today.

If we're hoping that someone was sexually harassed so that we can get some wins maybe we've gone too far. _________________ I'm a Balliever.

Be careful what you wish for. Any Dallas Cowboys fan can attest to the fact that having a free-spending billionaire owner doesn’t mean the nepotism is going to stop.

I don't think this is it (more likely Magic in this case). I think Rob is just a huge liar.
