And like farah dying just before another MJ, no one noticed. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
One of the greatest to have ever played and from all accounts a truly good guy.
I've followed his career ever since he killed at the Nike Hoop Summit when he was a teenager and now that he's retiring I feel so old. _________________ Under New Management
The greatest euro to ever play the game.
Should've retired 2 years ago, though
He wanted that longevity record over Kobe. Gotta respect the competitive drive even when he could barely run anymore. _________________ Under New Management

Reminds me of the death of Sergei Prokofiev, perhaps the greatest Soviet composer. He died on the same day as Stalin, and most people had no idea. Even in the leading musical periodical, his death was mentioned on page 116, with the first 115 pages about Stalin. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid!
Not enough is said about Dirk's impact on the game. He was the original stretch big man. In the 2000's 7 footers simply were not supposed to be able to knock down 3s at a 40 percent clip. Dirk had huge playoff moments, one of my favorites being his clutch buckets to beat the Spurs in the semi finals in 06. Glad he eventually won a ring (at our expense ahhhh) thrashing the heatles along the way.

He's the best shooting big man of all time, but there were stretch 4 and 5s before him -- Bill Lambeer, Jack Sikma, Raef LaFrentz, Arvydas Sabonis and Brad Lohaus come to mind.
I believe Lohaus was the first big to shoot 40% from the 3-point line in NBA history. I don't think any big has ever broken into the top 10 in 3-point percentage. Lohaus was 11th one year, which I think is the best.
I'd say it's fair to say that Dirk took 3-point shooting to another level in terms of the volume of attempts and success
Rank from best career to worst: Dirk, KG, Wade, Pierce
Dirk, KG, Wade, Pierce.
KG won with Pierce, Ray and another good young player in Rondo(Lakers were without Bynum and Ariza not close to 100%). Funny how Doc moans about 2010 when injuries favored him in 2008. Dirk didn't have that kind of prime supporting cast in 2011 and was against Bron, Wade and Bosh who were well established. Dirk also led Mavs to finals in 2006. _________________ Showtime 2.0

Gotta tip the hat to the big German, he went thru Kobe-Pau, KD-Westbrook-Harden-Ibaka, LeBron-Wade-Bosh
The Matrix was balling out of his mind, gotta remember that and Tyson Chandler was best defensive player in the playoff
