Per @ (bleep) (bleep) WOJ
“Lakers coaching staff fully expected to be fired in hours after the final game of the season. They had believed they were gone for months. Now? Magic quits in public, saying he's too scared to tell Jeanie Buss face-to-face. What an embarrassing episode for a historic franchise”
I wonder if there is more to that story about Luke and Magic not speaking |

He's saying that the coaches were expecting Magic to fire them after the game. It probably isn't happening now.

Tania G from around 5:50 PM so before the whole Magic thing blew up
Luke Walton is asked if there’s any anxiety for him about his future. “No anxiety. But call me later tonight and the answer might be different,” he says, smiling.

Magic and injuries had far more to do with the Lakers failed season than Luke Walton. _________________ A three headed monster... Jeannie, Pelinka, and Ham... another terrible season. |

Luke is staying at least for now.. Can't have complete turmoil and no plan in place because the guy who was responsible for planning abruptly quit. The next question is what happens with Pelinka. |

So the coach who's too stubborn to even get a shooting coach is gonna replace all his bros for people smarter than him?
Quite the dream. |

That would be the only way I'd be ok keeping Luke. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Nah, good coaches don't let teams implode even when things go wrong. Luke is a hack. |

Luke was the best GM on the staff. He wanted to keep Randle and Lopez. Luke also was a COY candidate on December 25th before all hell broke loose with injuries and trade the entire team for AD rumors. There isnt a better candidate on the market. Keep Luke. _________________ How can I get a copy of a Laker game played on Sunday, March 11, 2001 Sonics/Lakers? If you know PM me please

Luke has had the same issues for 3 consecutive years. Roster turn-over and injuries have nothing to do with having an actual system installed. The team continues to be a 1-action offense that resorts to iso ball when they don't get the intended match-up.
His in-game decision making (sub patterns, leaving players on court too long, on bench too long, etc) have been the same over those same 3 years. If you're just going to replace his staff to do everything, you might as well get a new coach. |
