I am usually a generous spirit wrt HoF invitations, but Vlade seems an unusually weak member now. |

I mean you simply can't have a Hall of Fame without these luminaries. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

He got in before Webber. That Michigan scandal will continue to be a black cloud for him. |

Since Vlade(!) will soon be a HoFer(!), apparently #12 will eventually be up in the rafters with:
Jerry West (44)
Wilt Chamberlain (13)
Elgin Baylor (22)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (33)
Shaquille O'Neal (34)
Magic Johnson (32)
James Worthy (42)
Gail Goodrich (25)
Jamaal Wilkes (52)
MLPS HoFers (Mikkelsen, Milan, Pollard, Martin, Kundla, Lovellete)
Chick Hearn (mic)
Vlade Divac (12)

They are really putting in all the borderline guys who have been waiting around for years.
Now, the best guys not in the Hall who are eligible are Tim Hardaway, Shawn Marion, and Lou Hudson. The line just keeps getting lower and lower. |

Congrats Vlade, thanks for not retiring and allowing the Lakers to land Kobe @ #13. Also, that "pass" to Robert Horry for the 3 was unforgettable. |

I can accept Vlade because of the international angle. Jack Sikma and Sidney Moncrief are the ones that get me. They were both really good players. But if they weren't Hall of Famers for 30 years, what changed? This is another example of the Jo Jo White syndrome. |

My guess is some of the voters changed. |

This is a "fill in the historic gaps before the next great HOF class" class, which is a very bad sign for Chris Webber getting in anytime soon. _________________ Under New Management |

I'm glad Sid Moncrief and Bobby Jones are in. Defense was a bigger part of The Game before 2008, and these two guys - along with Rodman - were best of breed defenders of their era. If three point specialists like Reggie and Ray get in, I say the best defenders belong in too.
Magic Johnson said that Rodman and Moncrief gave him the most trouble of any player who covered him. Jones was fast, long and physical - as tough as nails; the rule changes since his time eliminated chance for this type of success in the league. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”

That will be interesting to see. He didn't get into the Hall based on what he did with the Lakers. The Kings will probably retire his jersey, we may not |

Eh. Moncrief had five good years. That's why he has never made the Hall of Fame. I remember Bobby Jones pretty well. I never would have considered him to be Hall of Fame material. He was a good defender, but he was a power forward who averaged 5-6 rebounds and less than 30 minutes per game in his prime.
I think the Basketball Hall of Fame may be broken beyond repair. This sort of nonsense smacks of lobbying campaigns -- that someone found a way to lobby for Bobby Jones to make the Hall of Fame. There really is no good reason for Bobby Jones to be making the Hall of Fame 33 years after he retired. It is likely that some of the voters never saw him play. |

this is why it is crazy the NBA does not have their own HOF.....as of now, Springfield serves as a de facto NBA HOF in many peoples perception.....and Divac having a place while Webber does not is just wrong.
How does the NBA not have a HOF at this point? Even Nascar has a Hall of Fame....College basketball has their own Hall of Fame! I have heard speculation in the past that Jerry Colangelo has always used his influence to block the NBA from creating their own HOF. |

At this point, I doubt the NBA will ever have its own hall.
Pretty much everyone who would make an NBA hall of fame is already in Naismith.
The NBA probably has more important things to do with its time and resources than support a competing hall. |

Apparently, the Kings have already retired Vlade's jersey [link] . Think the Lakers will retire his jersey at some point. |

To be honest, I never thought Marlboro Man would ever make the HoF. The Lakers have been retiring jersey numbers of former players who made the HoF, so if the pattern holds true, he’ll join Jamaal Wilkes up there. |
