One Dream scenario:

Klay as FA
Gay for the Mid Level
Ingram / lotto / Kuz for AD

Ball / Caruso
Klay / Hart
Gay / Hart
LBJ / Wagner
AD / McGee

23. What is the maximum salary a player can receive? Are there exceptions to the maximum salary?

Here are the league-wide maximum salaries for the first season of a new contract:
Years in NBA1......Defined maximum salary.....2017-18..........2018-19.......
0 - 6..........................25% of cap............$24,773,250.........$25,467,250
7 - 9..........................30% of cap............$29,727,900.........$30,560,700
10+...........................35% of cap............$34,682,550.........$35,654,150

$109,000,000 * 35% = $38,150,000
$109,000,000 * 30% = $32,700,000
$109,000,000 * 25% = $27,250,000

It would be a room exception for Gay.

It doesn't look like enough outgoing salary in the Davis trade.

Code:
LeBron             $37,436,857.50
Lonzo              $8,719,320.00
Ingram             $7,265,485.00
Deng               $4,992,994.00
#11 pick            $3,357,000.00
Wagner             $2,164,680.00
Kuzma             $1,974,600.00
Hart              $1,934,160.00
Bonga             $1,416,852.00
$897,158 holds     $2,691,474.00

Salary cap    $109,000,000.00

Total Cap Used    $71,953,422.50

Free Space    $37,046,577.50

35% FA   $38,150,000
30% FA   $32,700,000

$1.15M short of being able to sign a 35% free agent, now that our expected draft position has changed from ~25 to ~11. Tanking hurt us here (assuming we could find a 35% guy who wanted to come). There are ways the FO can get that cap space back with draft day trades or other creative methods. They are pretty close to being able to pay full price for a Durant, a 3% price cut for Durant to take what we are expected to have without other moves.

That is step one. Then the cap number is no longer in play and "125% of the outgoing salary, plus $100,000" is the number that matters for the AD trade. About 21.775M. Which means Lonzo and Ingram are 100% included in the trade. Then of the group of Wagner, Hart Kuzma, Bonga, #11 pick, the team needs to come up with $5.8M. If the Lakers send the #11 pick they can keep 2 of the players listed. If they keep the #11 player, all the others must go. Hopefully I have the numbers correct now.

Any player signed using a salary cap exception cannot be traded for 2 months, so there can be other scenarios, possibly where one of Lonzo or Ingram are kept, if the Lakers use exceptions to sing other guys, after signing the max player and then wait to make a mid season trade for AD.

Actually we can use the MLE for quite a number of roster spots. Technically we could sign like 5 guys using MLE if we wanted to and not have to bear the min contracts that are against the cap

Wow, if we could "somehow" keep BI while bringing in AD, and then signing Kawhi or KD to go along with BRON and those 5 MLE's, you have BRON/AD/Kawhi or KD and BI, with 4 MLE"S....Now you are talking, but it seems like a million mile away pipe dream...

well if you split the MLE between 5 people thats basically 5 min players. It doesnt mean players all make MLE salary it means you can take that salary and spend it on 1 guy or how many but it has to equal the MLE amount. Not sure if thats what youre saying.

anyways how much is the MLE this year like 10m? I remember when we signed Artest to it, i think it was like 6-7m but im sure it has gone up

id much rather try and get Redick at the MidLevel over Gay. Gay really isnt needed with Lebron AD and Klay unless hes on the bench

The room exception will be about $4.8 million and Reddick should be able to get multiple offers at least equal if not better than that.

Everything J.J. Redick Does is From Long Distance

Quote:

Redick’s wife, Chelsea, and their two sons reside in Dumbo, the chic neighborhood resting on Brooklyn’s southwest waterfront. The Redicks made New York their new offseason home this past summer, seeking proximity to Chelsea’s twin sister and her newborn baby. It seems Brooklyn will be their base for the remainder of Redick’s career—having toddlers change preschools is far from an ideal early childhood education.

If things go well for the Knicks this offseason, they could offer Reddick the same room exception to play with Durant, Irving, Robinson and their 2019 draft pick. The same money as what the Lakers could offer with only one household to maintain and he would be able to go home to his family after the game.
