So I was joking, but really, what is attractive about this situation? Whether perceived or not, it appears Lebron & Klutch are running the team. They push for coaching changes. They push for personnel changes. If I'm a KD, Kawhi, etc., why do I want to go to a team that is run by my teammate and his shadow agency? To be another member of Lebron's supporting cast. If I'm a star, I want that power, and if I'm on a team with Lebron, I have very little. |

AD or Kawhi/BI/ZO/KUZ/11th to 16th pick, do the math, but...... Where is KL's mind set these days, same place as PG's was? |

Our young players take criticism, non of their young guys are all star talents. All serviceable and decent prospects, but media wants to make these guys out to be stars.
Also, their future first round treasure trove of picks will be a protected late first from Philly and the Miami pick, which is yet to be determined where it will land. |
Billionaire owner, Jerry West, new arena, lots of cap space, Los Angeles, scrappy young team, a coach player's like, no drama. |
There arena is 5 years out. All owners are wealthy. Jerry West is 80. They'll always be second fiddle. Sorry, it's like the Mets/Yankees, Mets will always be second fiddle franchise.
Clippers have come up a lot, don't get me wrong, just roster construction wise it's not like they have Embiid/Simmons. SGA is literally their best young player yet I just read an article on SI.com touting their treasure trove of talent and picks. Uh, what? But the Laker players all stink? |
Jeanie's net worth minus her stake in the Lakers is 20 million... or a little more than one year of what we paid to Deng
Steve Ballmer is worth 41 billion. |
Good for him, but has her net worth impeded the Lakers from making moves? All organizations operate under the confines of the cap, luxury tax, and pretty fixed player deals. Ballmer's billions isn't going to get any player more money. |
thanks for common sense post. |
if common sense means not true? We have consistently seen teams with owners whose primary wealth is related to the team operations avoid the luxury tax like the plague. Look at Houston...everyone was a little concerned when Tilman Fertitta bought the team because now the majority of his wealth was tied to the Rockets. He came out and declared it was not an issue and they would not avoid the tax....yet every single move Houston has made since he bought the team has been to get under the tax. The Lakers have a little bit of buffer because of their large revenues, but the Buss family being one of the less wealthy owners in the NBA definitely could have a negative impact on the amount offered to players. |
Lakers have billionaire minority owners. |

He could be signed first at a lower salary than the QO then sign AD. The cap goes up to 116m in 2020. Im not sure if there is a number that fits this scenario but I don’t think Ingram’s going to get a 20 million dollar offer |
He’s not taking under 10m. |
I said I didn’t know. Is that the number he would have to sign for in order to sign AD in 2020 |
Time to sell low
Maybe less. He’s gone if we punt. |

Stop the Klay dream. He's going to get his 4th ring and then next year his 5th. No reason to bail when you have that on your resume. Only a fool leaves a team like that. Same with KD, why leave after getting that 3rd ring? I get he joined a Team already dominant without him but if they win again... |

I'm beginning to think it will be Jimmy Butler.
I think it will be fine for the first 2 years, but when Jimmy hits age 32-33 on that deal, and LBJ will be what, 36-37, and combined they'll make nearly 80m. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

He has always wanted to come to LA from what I've read.
Remember he first leaked that he wanted to be traded to the Clippers (when he was on Minny)?
Lakers may miss out on top FAs, and teams may not want to risk Jimmy on their team. That may leave them as the last two kids at a dance without a partner. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

have to disagree.
My problem with him is:
1. locker room problem (several teams now).
2. age (first 2 years of 4 year deal will be good IMO).
Other than that, he's a very talented player who would help this team tremendously. Could be a 24-25ppg level player alongside LBJ and take a lot of the offensive load. He's also a pitbull on defense when he wants to be. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I don't disagree with you, he's no doubt talented but I think this team would be better looking at other players. Not sure. |

I am hoping the ASB gives the team a chance to regroup for the final run into the playoffs. But that would take some leadership. Someone stepping up and getting the players on the same page mentally and schematically. Getting them to sacrifice and put team first. Should be James, but....
Lakers are facing a tough challenge because the other teams they are competing against to make the playoffs are not in this same turmoil. Going to be interesting if the Lakers can overcome this current dysfunction.
As for next year and the hypothetical FA's, I am not as optimistic as many of you. Why are those players choosing to join James in LA and rebuild to the extent the Lakers will need to rebuild in a window of "maybe" a couple years? Why would they choose to be the brunt of criticism in losses but get very little of the accolades in the wins? Why would they choose to join the James circus atmosphere for the chance of playing with a declining player? Why choose LA over seemingly better options for their careers?
Lakers have a lot of work to do to close out this season and then this summer. I hope they are up to the task. Because I continue to see the flaws in this path becoming reality.
Time to get their heads out of their asses and win some games. |

I think Jimmy breaks that nice ecosystem growing in Brooklyn. But I think he'll look.
I now think Jimmy is the likeliest max FA we sign, for better or worse. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
